    First dish

I came here with my girlfriend for dinner without a reservation but thankfully Sam was able to seat us. He explained that they are currently doing a prix fixe menu which includes various ingredients to create traditional dishes with a new take. The first dish was a seafood medley with flavors of salmon, mussels and squid ink on the crust. The second dish was an Argentine shrimp mosaïc atop a bed of shrimp bisque and garnished with squash butter inspired by a traditional shrimp cocktail. The third dish included two different ways of preparing turkey including a bitterballen which was confit and a poached turkey breast served with poulette sauce and a hearty macaire potato on the side. The fourth dish was an absolutely aromatic dish with flavors coming from the varieties of mushrooms present and the black pepper garlic puree. And lastly came our dessert which was a huge surprise to us as it had incorporated foie gras with a gingerbread ice cream. The foie gras brought a hint of saltiness but its overall richness really elevated the whole piece and complemented greatly with the sweetness from the gingerbread crumbs and ice cream. PS. You can ask to sign the door in the restaurant and we sure did!

BOTTOM LINE: Props for its creativity. Although it's located right on Rue Saint-Jean, it's easy to miss it given it's somewhat obscured shop front. It definitely has a Jamaican/420-friendly vibe. The service was good, with the chef even bringing out some of the dishes. With a rotating menu of about every 2-weeks, and with so many local reviews lauding the chefs' inventive takes on tried-and-true dishes, I was eager to try it. And for the most part, it was fantastic even if some dishes didn't entirely stick the landing. The highlight was the BOB MARLEY OG, which was their take on jerk chicken (prepared via sous vide no less). It had a good amount of spiciness to it and balanced out by generous coconut shavings and pineapple. Highly recommended. Next, their OCEAN VIEW seafood salad was freshly made with mussels, shrimps, veggies, and topped off with some foam. There was also a foundation of pureed peas, which I felt detracted from the other delicate flavours. My feelings toward their KRAKEN were a bit of a mixed bag. I felt the octopus was done well, and the egg yolk was a nice addition; however, I wasn't a fan of dousing it in BBQ sauce. Perhaps it was a combination of flavours I wasn't typically used to, but I felt the BBQ sauce overpowered the flavour of the octopus. Finally, I was probably most disappointed with their SPIDER BITES, which was a pork dish served in lobster-bisque. It was an odd combination of flavours, and for the most part, I could barely taste the lobster bisque. The texture of the pork also felt a bit mushy to me. Overall, I felt that this particular meal was probably closer to a 3-stars; however, I appreciate their willingness to take risks and be creative with their dishes, and that counts for a lot in my book.

Everything was amazing. Amazing food and wine, service and ambiance. A bit pricey but worth it! Must try!

My wife and I stumbled upon Sinsemilla by accident while visiting Quebec City. It was the greatest culinary experience of our lives. The owner greeted us at the door and had us seated promptly. He then explained how each dish is served tapas style and that they are takes on different recipes from the culinary realm. The sommelier came and asked us what wines we were interested in and gave us notes and an in depth profile for each. We then ordered four plates, the Triple Threat Oysters, Black Tuna, Fat Purple, and Wonder Bread pictured in the review. They feature a bimonthly rotating menu so I won't go into much detail on the food, but it was all incredibly unique. The oyster toppers played with texture in a masterful way. The 'Chicken and Waffles' was the absolute pinnacle of a south eastern US staple. When we finished the meal the owner came over and asked us how our meal was and told us to enjoy the rest of our wine and that the table was ours for the night and not to rush. We decided to add the Lemon Cheesecake, because we didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to have the greatest dessert of our lives. It was.

I've been lucky enough to come twice now while on vacation to jjacques and both times were exceptional, I also funnily enough sat at the exact same table both times. The service and staff and excellent - they give great recommendations, are funny and just make you feel taken care of. Shout-out to Nathan our waiter who spoke in EN for half the table and FR for the other half haha. He was so fun! The first time I came here was with my husband and we had a lovely dinner - the salmon blinis were our fave so I knew when I was here the second time, they were a must! The second time, there were six of us so we ordered quite a bit - we had the salmon blinis with caviar, a few oysters, the cod fritters, the prawn cocktail, the mushroom tortellini, flounder crudo, and whole fried fish - for dessert we did a cheese plate with some delicious local cheese. Everything was delicious - the whole fish is a must - the skin is so crispy and tasty - has a lot of Vietnamese flavours. The cocktails are also fabulous here - I had the Mexican Firing Squad and the Jungle Bird - both delicious and easy to drink! The room itself reminds me of a cool speakeasy bar/resto you'd find in the streets of New York City. It's hidden in an alleyway behind a very unassuming door. It's all part of the magic of the restaurant. If there is one place to go for dinner in QC, go here. We booked a reso in advance and I recommend you do this to secure your spot!

The staff were all very great in explaining everything about the menu. For example, if you want the beef Tomahawk ($145), they told you to order it now since it'll be a 45 minute wait. We started off with 24 oysters ($72) as we love oysters. They had different type of oysters and we enjoyed the east coast oysters. My favorite dishes that we ordered were the seared scallops ($42) and the Butterfish Tataki ($22). We were a bit disappointed in the Crab Rotolo ($36) as we didn't enjoy the combination of the sauce and crab. The scallops were cooked very well and we loved the sauce for the Tataki. The Vitello Tonnato ($22) and Cod Fritters ($15) were decent but not as good in comparison to our favorites. We throughly enjoyed our dinner here as we had a good time trying all the food and mocktails they offered.

We had a reservation for 6, and we got seated in a MASSIVE booth/table that could easily fit 10ppl. A little awkward but not a deal breaker. We ordered a few drinks and a bottle of wine to share among us which came out quickly with the apps. While waiting for the entrees, our wine got warm as there wasn't an ice bucket that was given to us but wouldn't matter much because we finished our drinks by the time the food came out. The entrees were not as good- combination of personal preference and the way it was cooked. For the pasta, I thought it would be noodle shaped but it was shells- kinda a disappointment. A friend ordered the pork and shrimp plate and was told it was very dry/overcooked overall. The veggies side was what we talked about after the meal with how good it was. Not sure if I'll be coming back but they do have a rotating menu so hopefully there are better dishes coming up.

We ordered the French onion soup and a classic crêpe with egg, ham, cheese, and seasonal vegetables. The French onion soup was absolutely outstanding--easily one of the best I've ever had. The crêpe was equally delicious and far better than what we typically find back home. The only options for the egg were scrambled or over-easy, which felt a bit limited. Also worth noting: no Coke Zero, but Diet Coke is available. Overall, this spot is a must-visit if you're craving authentic crêpes and exceptional French onion soup.

The meal was mostly a hit with the shredded duck savory crepes a big hit. The French Onion soup was also very delicious! I did debate whether to try the dessert versions but ultimately stuck with the savory. The only miss was the La Cannoise, with ricotta, spinach, olives, tomato sauce, egg and pesto which was not a hit. Just a weird combination of flavors that I guess I don't find mesh well, this dish was mostly left behind. Service was really friendly and helpful.

We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

They really know how to celebrate food and have put great thought into their food combinations, elevating good quality ingredients into a fine dining experience. Le Hobbit is a cozy spot with a corner view of the city's dining/shopping street with great 2 seater tables to enjoy the private ambiance as well as some longer tables for groups of 4, 6, 8 to gather. Reservations is highly recommended/required. The atmosphere is very cozy with wood themes and very private. We had: - house lemonade - the foie gras seed butter and blueberry jam app; this is served on a broiche with a large amount of foie gras and homemade roasted sunflower seed butter; this was a very flavorful and filling starter for two - Poulet de Cornouailles - cornish roasted hen (the whole bird, small); was very delicate, served on mashed turnips, topped with an artistic grilled turnip and other veggies to cover the protein, it was a great experience to taste each component of the dish and have it come together well - veal flank steak with sauce on carrot puree and bitter vegetables - dessert (which changes frequently) was an artistic experience, a spiced cake with sauce, a uniquely (not my favorite) ice cream with candied bitter citrus peel served on top of toasted granola/sweetened biscuits The serving staff was super knowledgeable and presented each course and dish when served with further explanations on the ingredients, process, as well as how to best experience the dish. Most of the staff are also LOTR fans, so there is a nice opportunity to geek out together and see the inspiration for some of the dishes. Very much recommended for a nice evening out in Quebec City.

Started with a few favorites from the fabulous waitress who took great care to go over the menu with my group before we ordered. The French Onion and Creamy Tomato were both excellent. The Buvette, Tartare, and Escargot were all also very delicious. The Buvette was tender and beefy on top of a bed of cream of corn, roasted corn and tomato caramel for a slight sweetness. The Tartare was a classic rendition, beefy and mustardy, and one of the few times I've had tartare that was filling. After our meal I was snapping a photo of the restaurant and the owner Louis saw me and took a few photos for me. He's an excellent photographer as well!
