There as a small line at the Singing Crust bakery booth at the Brownsburg Farmers Market. Bread prices were reasonable and the selection of breads was interesting. We bought a sourdough baguette, which was huge. The crust was nice and crusty and the bread was soft inside. Once we cut a slice, we couldn't stop eating it. The bread was delicious plain or with cheese. I can't wait to go back and try some other loaves. The clerk was friendly and told us about their local delivery service that you can join and receive bread once per week. She gave us information and a coupon for a free cookie. read more

On the road less traveled while driving from Plainfield to Terre Haute on 40 with my dad, I am quick to find those hidden gems via Yelp along the way. A good local bakery in Indiana can be like a unicorn. Happy to have found the Singing Crust Bakery....a lovely little unicorn. Showing up about 45 minutes prior to close probably served us no good, but we were happy to pop in and get what we got. There was actually quite a bit available at this late hour. The staff is so friendly and patient as we contemplate our choices, there are actually quite a few people working this day. House made English muffins, peanut butter cookies and a cinnamon role. All take home items to be eaten later in our kitchen. Unexpectedly delicious....really quite good. My mom cannot stop talking about the peanut butter cookies and she is kind of a connoisseur of sorts in these cookie related matters. The cinnamon role when reheated was the perfect amount of soft stretchy dough and sweetness (more light, than dense). And the English muffins, almost the size of a teacup saucer, were excellent. Really excellent....not to mention unique, for when do you see an house made English muffin in a bakery? Items we did not buy, but were available were breads, including baguettes, whole pies, pie slices and other assortments of cookies. Coffee and some sandwiches are available for sale as well. Not often in this area, but an absolutely worthy stop. My parents and I will one day make it a point to have a little road trip to drive over from Terre Haute to pick up some baked good again. read more

Disheartening start from a bakery we look forward to eating from. No coffee or hot breakfast sandwiches in the morning. Store opens at 7am yet by 7:40am their grill was still off and no coffee was made. Redemption their croissants are delicious as always hot or cold. It's wonderful to see a new business open up and watch the growth and success of that business. That's how it's been with Singing Crust. We love to go in and see what is fresh from the ovens. You can watch as they knead the breads and shape them and see when they come out of the oven so golden and pretty. And the smells? Oh my goodness! You'll want to try everything. Our favorites are the challah and the Rosemary Sourdough. Stop in our your way to work and they will makes your lunch for you. Best sandwiches ever from fresh bread. Even grill it for you if you like melted cheese. Yum! The staff are all very friendly and anxious to serve. They offer a rewards program so after just a few purchases you get something for free. This bakery has some of the best pastries and bread ever made. They're croissants are excellent. Everything they bake is perfect. Are sweet pastries are full of flavor but just sweet enough to compliment the flavor not overpower it. Once again the singing crust is phenomenal. I was passing by on a mid Saturday morning and was able to get some great desserts for later in the day. Their sugar cream pie was definitely the best period and I have been eating the wicks pies since I was a kid. The cream puff was as good as any I have had at the state fair as well. Great bread and pastry. The varietes of breads are outstanding. They are at Columbus, Indiana farmers market each Saturday in the summer.

One of the joys of exploring your state by county is discovering places the locals (and some adventurous yelpers have uncovered) for a pleasant surprise. Some friends mentioned that the next time we were out their way, we should make time to stop by this small bakery to sample some of heir goodies. Keep your eyes peeled to be sure you don't drive by this small sand alone building. I had given my wife a general description of where to look and she spotted it. She was able to get over to the center lane heading west and able to turn into the small parking area/side road without incident. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more of a bakery aroma inside the building. The interior is broken into numerous small rooms (some for display only). We didn't do a lot of advance reading about what to get, but basically did impulse buying. MY wife ordered a loaf of rye bread (no marbled available) and she forgot to ask if the loaf was seeded or unseeded. She loves the rye seeds in each bite, but unfortunately the loaf she purchased, did not have the seeds throughout. Because it was nearly lunch time, I didn't want to eat my individual pie slices until after I ate an actual meal. Though they did have some cold sandwiches in the cooler made with their house bread, we passed and had lunch elsewhere. By the time I got around to eating the pie slices, the crusts had become somewhat soggy and not as appealing. I have had individual pie slices from "My Sugar Pie" in Zionsville and Greenwood which seemed to hold up better and suit my preference for flavor. The baked goods we ordered were still good, but competition can bring out the best in what a place has to offer. Stop in to shop for all the tasty goodies! I purchased some sourdough bread to make grilled cheese sandwiches. And chocolate chip cookies $2 each for grand daughters. There are other varieties too. I chose a molasses ginger cookie for myself. The counter person was very polite with others working in the bakery. Next visit I might try a take out sandwich. I'm already thinking about the holiday gatherings and using this bakery to help me "bake". read more

Cannot beat fresh baked breads and pastries. I regret that I do not live next door. We have driven by the bakery many many times from Terre Haute. Sadly we do no have a bakery here, (don't count store bakeries). We have tried the rye, baguette, and our favorite the cinnamon raisin. Also tried the muffins. Never a bad baked item.
