Lo and behold, I was right next store getting hand controls put on a new vehicle. I looked over and saw Kim's, and I knew before the day was over I'd be making a visit. Located on Madison Avenue in what looks like an old Hardee's location, the outside doesn't begin to describe the deliciousness that's on the inside. I found a wheelchair ramp, wheeled over, and I'll admit as I entered I wasn't overly impressed. It looks and feels a little worn, however, the baked goods looked amazing and the young woman working was super friendly. So, I decided to give it a chance. I will admit that I have no idea why "cafe" is in the name as I didn't really see anything other than baked goods. However, I do believe in cake, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods as an entree so I was super good to go. There are multiple display cases with a wide variety of items. They seem to specialize in cakes, though I suppose I should call them Kakes, and they've got the awards to show for it. I opted for a couple of chocolate fudge cupcakes. They have both small and large. I opted for large because, well, they're cupcakes. My bill was, I believe, $7 and change. Great cupcakes at a fair price. These aren't quite the behemoth decadent things some "chains" tend to go for. These are real cupcakes at a real price (the small ones, if I remember right, were $1.50 - and definitely not more than $1.75. Amazing. The bakery is clean but simple. There's a handful of tables so you can enjoy your item in-house. I saw one cooler that seemed to have some drink items. Basically, this is a bakery. This is an awesome bakery. They do have some gluten-free options. I did not see doughnuts, and I don't see doughnuts on their website. So, do not go there for donuts. (That was my attempt at humor. I failed). Really, I was super pleased here. The ambience is super casual, but let that go - the baked goods are worth it. I'd definitely give Kim's Kakery a visit.

There was a lovely young woman with her daughter selling cookies and cakes in a jar. I was impressed by how well she knew and described her product. Her young daughter also introduced herself and it was obvious that she feels part of the business with her mom. I purchased two of the cakes in a jar. One was a special Mardi Gras with cinnamon bourbon and sprinkles, the other was Dark Chocolate with white cream frosting.  Both were absolutely delicious. At only $7 each they were well worth the price!  I will return to the next Farmers Market and this time try some of the beautiful unusual cookies. However, I was feeling a bit nostalgic during this past weekend's trip to Putnam County and decided to stop and really check this retail strip out. I spied The Fudge kettle and knew I had to stop. The Fudge Kettle was started in 2020 - what a time to start a new business, eh? Despite the challenges, it thrived in a different location before locating to this spot in 2023. This is a former Jack's Donuts and it reportedly offered The Fudge Kettle about twice the size of its previous spot along with a variety of other perks. In case the name isn't obvious, The Fudge Kettle specializes in candy, fudge, local crafts, and a variety of other products. Despite being an older strip center, accessibility is pretty strong here with ample parking and curb cuts. The double-sided glass doors are pretty manageable. I found the interior to be nicely designed. I'm a fan of fudge and definitely had to try the fudge while here. Absolutely a delight. You can also get chocolates, freeze-dried candies, and some national brands like Pez, Necco Wafers, Buns, Boston Baked Beans, Rock Candy, Candy Cigarettes (Yes, I'm old enough to also remember when candy cigarettes were considered cool), and more. Local crafts include candles, keychains, t-shirts, wreaths and more. I'm a huge candle fan and I definitely prefer supporting local. So, this is a great find. I will note that new owners took over - I believe in 2023. It seems like there's some shifting going on and the website indicates that new products are coming soon. However, I liked what I saw here and the employee I dealt with was friendly and helpful. I found the prices to be fair, the quality to be amazing, and this just feels like a really welcoming spot.
