***UNIQUE STYLE PIZZA*** ***FRIENDLY WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE*** WHY IS MOST LONG ISLAND PIZZA THE SAME? Countless pizzeria restaurants can be found littering strip malls and shopping centers throughout Long Island. However, the vast majority of these establishments are making their pies in the same mediocre manner. With a fairly thick & doughy crust, that is really not cooked very well, and packed with excessive cheese. And then these establishments dress their pies with miscellaneous standard toppings, attempting to create an interesting product, or maybe even just to try and keep up with the competition. So when something different, and very good - such as Singas- comes across my radar, it's a welcome surprise, and a much needed deviation from the norm. BIG SUCCESS In 1967 Singas Famous Pizza opened their first location in Elmhurst, focusing on using fresh ingredients and creating pizza in a somewhat different fashion. This formula worked so well, that Singas was able to expand to multiple locations, and later on even began franchising, so that today there are 34 locations in 14 different states. SO WHAT'S DIFFERENT HERE? Singas creates a unique pizza experience from start to finish. First off, there are no slices served here, only personal sized pizzas, with each just about the right size to satisfy an average hungry person. Next a unique dough recipe is used, along with being baked in a special cast iron pan, which creates a distinctive crust. Then, the pizza sauce is also a special recipe, giving Singas pies a particular flavor and aroma. And finally, although some of the available toppings are conventional, such as pepperoni or mushrooms, many of the other toppings are unique to this establishment. For example, the fresh sliced jalapenos, thin sliced peppers & onions, and paneer, are items you likely won't encounter at a run-of-the-mill pizzeria like Luigi's on Main Street let's say. Another interesting attribute, is the size of the slices. Because it's a personal size pie with a fairly small diameter, each slice is about the size of your hand, making it quite different and entertaining to eat. And even the way the pizza is served to you is different, as each fresh pie sits on top of a special paper pizza plate. Or for take-out, every pizza is sandwiched between two plates, and packaged in a special Singas bag to keep warm. WHAT ELSE In addition to the pizzas here, there are also some respectable chicken wings, salads, tasty Jamaican style beef patties, Falafel, and deserts on the menu. And now here's a few pro tips when visiting Singas: 1) Ask for the pizza to be well done, and eat it at the restaurant for the best possible texture and taste. 2) Let the pizza cool off for a little while before you grab a fresh slice, so the cheese and sauce tightens up a bit, otherwise the ingredients tend to slide off. 3) If you're pressed for time, t's best to pre-order, as each pizza is assembled and then freshly baked, which takes some time. POPULAR WITH THE INDIAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY I discovered Singas because of recommendations given by many of my good friends of Indan heratige, living in the Hicksville area. And as it was explained to me, Indian customers especially enjoy the pizza toppings with bold and spicy flavors here, with the Pepper & Onion pizza, and the Sliced jalapeno pizza being the most popular. And as it happens, these two pizzas are likewise my favorite, as I enjoy these type of bold flavors immensely. In addition to these, Singas also offers Chicken Tikka and Paneer pizzas, expanding on the Indian themed offerings. So for sure, you're not going to be able to order pies like these at Domino's ! A TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE Unfortunately many individuals have been eating crappy Long Island pizza for so long, they actually prefer it. And because of this, Singas can be somewhat of a shock to those customers looking to just walk-in, and grab a few greasy plain cheese slices. And to be honest, what's being served here is totally different in comparison to some of my other favorite pizza spots in Long Island, such as Taglio's or Darios (Look for my reviews of these). But for me, this pizzeria is a wonderful chance to experience something different from the norm. And let me tell you, once you try the Pepper & Onion, or the Sliced Jalapeno pizza, or any of the other delicious pies, you will forever crave the distinct flavors offered here. read more

Singas pizza has been around since 1967 and I could definitely see the appeal. This is a pan pizza with a good crisp and chewy interior with good cheese and sauce. I do recommend it although it's not my cup of tea. I did enjoy the pizza. read more

Horrible service this time around! Ordered hot chillies pizza through Uber eats and they decided to give a cheese pizza with raw Thai chillies on the side! Yet they charged for toppings. 1st time ordering from them. I loved Singas pizza growing up in Queens, in Elmhurst then when I was married and living in Kew Gardens apartments on main street. This one is nothing like those. Really subpar pizza. I ordered from their app and I guess they have discounts on it for this location they are not aware of so right off the bat the price was different however they did honor the app price. Second, I got 2 pepperoni pies, both were over done, flat and possibly old? Odd since I had gone to pick them up 20 mins after placing order and they said not ready. When I went back these were overdone and old. Of course I did not see them till I got home... 2 towns over only good thing was the special supreme pizza with veggies. Again nothing tastes fresh, maybe not enough cheese? They just had an old sitting around taste the crust was hard. I fact as I describe it I'm more and more convinced they gave me a pre baked pizza reheated up cause it was that off! I've included some pics so you can see for yourself. Didn't taste the way they used to... had jalapeños, they had no flavor, and wasn't hot at all... could literally feed it to a baby.... The staff looks like they don't want you in there. I was happy to go to a Singas to have an experience like I used to, very disappointed. read more

OK Pizza lovers throw away all previous expectations on what "good" pizza is and go try Singas small shop typical 1970s looking pizza parlor ... big selection of toppings from the usual to the pineapple we ordered black olive and plain and were told because it was tuesday we get another pie for free now these are 10" pies good for one really hungry person or 2 hungry but not starving people. This pizza is a childhood favorite and while the quality has gone down I still love it. I took away 2 stars because of how poorly run the place has become. Rather than simply saying they don't want to take credit cards they get annoyed when you try to pay with one and ask in a surly tone "you don't have cash??". Ok so I'm originally from Elmhurst Queens and when I moved out to the island I knew I was gonna miss all my favorite foods. At least I have famous in Hicksville. First of all this is NOT, I repeat NOT pizza! It's Singa's famous pizza!! Singas or famous for short. Why is it not pizza, because it does not compare to regular pizza, it's in a league all on its own. Believe me you will understand once you try it. I've never ever been disappointed when I eat a famous pie. Never! There are some knockoffs but like the paper bag that this deliciousness comes in says "if it's not Singa's, it's not famous!!". I did leave out a star for this particular location because the crust is ever so slightly different than what I'm used to from the original spot on Broadway in Elmhurst. For those who have been stating that this is the "best pizza" are certainly wrong. I had the opportunity to dine here recently and I must say that the pizza was simply tasteless. To consider this pizza, absolutely puts shame to the name pizza. I had ordered peppers and onions pie and not only were the flavors lacking, but it just reminds me of a pie that I could get from the frozen section at the market. So I was very happy when they opened up in Hicksville. They have personal pizzas only. You can not but it by the slice. When I was a kid they only had pizza but now they sell sandwiches and salads. 10" pizzas, salads, and wings.... This was the extent of the menu... While its not your traditional thin crust Italian pizza, it was a good pizza. What they do here, they do well. I ordered a half pep/half sausage pizza and 6 wings. After ordering, I had some good convo with the gentleman at the counter. Very pleasant people working here. It made a good impression on my first visit. The wings were huge and tasty. I have to say that you get more than your moneys worth with the wings. While I can't eat this type of dinner everyday, I will try it again sometime in the future when I'm in the area. read more

For many Indian people who lived in queens or went to shop there with their parents when they were younger this place is they pizza they grew up on and considered a staple. For me however I think the original at least I think its the original, regardless to me best will always be Elmhurst Famous Pizza. You don't come here for pizza. You come here for a variation on your standard pizza. They have plenty of unusual toppings that are sold as 10" pies. I picked up a few to bring back to where I worked a few times and everyone thought it was excellent. Again, it won't satisfy a pizza craving per se, but it's something different, and different can be very good indeed. read more
