Came in not having a cut in over a year, very unsure of what I wanted and how much I trusted someone with my hair. Sin, the owner, calmed me down quickly with his obvious and confident knowledge of his trade. He talked to me about what I wanted, what I liked/didn't like about my hair, etc. I'm a fairly anxious guy, especially when it comes to making big changes in how I look, Sin's inviting atmosphere/personality made me feel comfortable asking the questions I wanted to ask and making the requests/adjustments I wanted. First haircut since lockdown so I had a lot to work with. Sin introduced himself and asked me what I'd had, what I wanted and what I was willing to do on a daily.. then he asked my wife sitting quietly what she wanted me to look like. Did a great job addressing my concerns while keeping the long curls the wife had come to protect. By the end I felt like he was more of a buddy than hair stylist. Pretty solid haircut. No complaints. Great atmosphere even though it was a little hard to find. However I was not prepared to pay 60 bucks for a drop fade and a wash. They said I could call back within a week for a touch up free of charge but I didn't do it. Overall pretty good just pretty pricy. read more

Another amazing experience with Sin at Sin Republic! I'm home for thanksgiving and had to come get my hair sculpted by sin himself! He makes it look all one length even tho there are a lot of layers in there. His technique is impeccable will continue to come here exclusively I went to Sin Republic on 12/29/15 to pick up some hair products. I had called earlier in the day hoping for a same day appointment and was told his schedule was full. I was bummed, but knew it was my fault for forgetting to schedule an appointment in advance. I came in anyway to pick up some products and this is where Sin goes above and beyond. He happened to finish up his last hair sculpting appointment of the day early, and offered a quick dry cut. I was ecstatic, and left the salon feeling incredibly grateful and beautiful due to his amazing work! I recently moved to Grand Rapids and needed to find a new hair stylist. Based on the many excellent YELP reviews I came to Sin's salon and couldn't have been happier. He had some new thoughts on my color, which I love. I didn't want to lose much of the length (I assumed a stylish would want to take off inches). It looks freshly trimmed yet I can't tell that it's any shorter. His prices are reasonable. And he's a very kind human being with a wonderful, positive energy. My search is over. read more

I can't thank Sin enough for fixing my hair. My sister gets her hair done here (platinum blonde) and has always spoke highly of Sin. I live 2 hours away (A2) and had a terrible experience with a salon there. My cool tone platinum had gold-ish spots (not pretty) and after my 3rd re-visit to fix it, they did a "base bump" that turned my roots orange! It wasn't drastic but I was so unhappy! *Enter thoughtful sister* She helped me book an appointment a week later with Sin. I am extremely satisfied with my cut and color with Hailey on 3/3/17. I came in a brassy, washed out blonde with roots and I needed...help... no idea what to do. She gave me a through consultation to get to the bottom of the look and color I was going for. My end result was wonderful - I look like a different person! I got a blondish bayalage (not what I normally get) but the consultation helped me understand what would work for my look and maintenance. Even my husband commented how he liked the change. The prices here are very fair (and on the affordable end) compared to salons in town. I've visited 6 other salons in GR, only to have new old stylist move away. The vibe of this place is funky and hospitable. The shampoo was HEAVENLY. The banter with Hailey is exactly what I was looking for with a stylist - she was talented, friendly, and could make me laugh and enjoy myself. I'm a guy who isn't much for a salon haircut, but I also have rather difficult hair (very straight and straw thin) that needs to be cut in a particular fashion to look right. I lived in Chicago for a decade and tried multiple high end salons and barber shops and could never find anyone who could cut my hair consistently the same way with the same look each time. Since moving to Grand Rapids I have been going to Dennis at the downtown location and he is a hair wizard! The guy just does it right each and every time and is actually able to tell me what would look better based on my hair type and how it grows, etc. I never really liked my hair until coming to see Dennis and having him cut it makes a difference. So, I'm in grand rapids for a wedding and my hair is a total hot mess. In a drastic attempt to fix this, I got into yelp and looked for hair salons. I found Sin Republic, and saw they accept walk ins. As I got there, it seemed busy. After a moment, a gentleman asked me how he could help me. I told him I saw they were busy, but did they have time to help fix this mess? He told me the salon was closed today and his staff was training. On the next breath, he told me to come back to his station and he would help me. I apologized for coming in, and told him he didn't have to do that. He insisted, introduced himself as Sin, and settled me into the chair. A short time later, he had my hair looking great, and was so friendly. He clearly knew what he was doing! Not only did he totally humble me with his enthusiasm to help, he refused to charge me- and merely smiled and told me to have fun. I'm still sitting in the parking lot, and I can't express how speechless I am. This salon clearly bends over backwards; if I could rate higher than five stars, I would! This place is amazing!!! There are so many good things about this place to say but just a few... I went in wanting a copper color and I had the owner Sin doing my hair he is such a great/good guy before making a commitment to a color that may not work on me he gave me a good consultation he didn't just go ahead and do it I think that was just great to have a real honest hair guru so we gave me a balayage type of the color I wanted too see if it was something that would work for me! I absolutely love it!!! The staff was so friendly and they are easy to talk with! Anyone in Grand Rapids please go HERE even if your not. I came here after having a very bad experience at another salon. It was the best salon experience I have had to date and I keep going back (I've been to many salons in the area as well as some in Chicago including Mario Tricoci). My stylist is Sydney and she is excellent at both cut and color. The salon itself has a nice atmosphere and I like its location. Also the receptionist deserves a shoutout. Always more than helpful. I have to move out of state in the near future but I'll probably come back to have my hair cut here exclusively. read more

I am extremely picky with stylists and I have been all over western Michigan to find a salon that would satisfy my needs. I am so impressed by the staff who are so kind and offer excellent customer service. I am also impressed by the talent of each stylist with their cutting skills and coloring techniques. Sin Republic provided hair services for my wedding on September 30 and NAILED IT. Sydney and her colleague did an outstanding job, accommodated so many different requests from the 11 of us getting our hair done and traveled to us to do it. Their prices are very reasonable and while you won't find a ton of pictures online of their work, they are experts at both up and down wedding hair styles.
