Having recently moved to the Grand Rapids area I needed to find a new hair stylist. Not an easy feat because of my criteria; must be an artist...the owner...cuts models hair and participates in fashion or hair shows...been in business several years (and a few others). As you can probably tell, when it comes to my hair I am picky, picky, picky. I believe your haircut will make or break you. It is one of the first things a person will notice about you. Your hair is a form of art...one that you wear and is seen by the world every day. Sin Chun, Founder and Chief Executive Sculpture did not disappoint. So glad to have found him. Sin is personable, creative and very skilled and passionate about "sculpting" hair. While I am picky about whom cuts my hair, once I am in that chair I want the person cutting and shaping my hair to be able to look at the features of my face and understand the texture of my hair and make a recommendation and decision on what will make me look best and cut accordingly. As the expert they should know. Again, Sin did not disappoint! I walked out of his salon very happy with what he had done. Sin...I WILL BE BACK. Sin is the best! He is so talented and is always developing new techniques for cutting hair that make him stand apart from other stylists. Just the way it looks when he cuts hair looks more like sculpting than cutting hair. I almost wonder why he's doing this in GR because he belongs in some trendy and super expensive and exclusive salon in LA or New York! You can definitely tell he has an eye for style and trends and I just know I'm in the best hands when I'm sitting in his chair. He's also got a fun personality and is easy to talk to. I'll never go to anyone else. Another great thing about this salon is that they have a dog!! Winston, the bulldog is always there to greet you and I just love that so much! Sin Republic never disappoints! Every time I went for a haircut I experienced a welcoming team, great atmosphere and wonderful service. Sin is very talented and performs MIRACLES with his haircuts. It is astounding how quick he is and understands what I am looking for without barely saying anything. If ever you need a formal updo, Shawn is the person to go too. Her hairstyles are creative, fresh and fun. Brynn also did an amazing job with a quick trim to my hair. All drop-in appointments are welcome and she was more than accommodating when I stopped in for a quick layer fix. 1. Jon Latva is amazing. If you want a stylist who knows what to do with your hair, without you bringing in picures... he's your man. He styled my hair when it was super long. He gave me a new look after I donated 10 inches of my hair. He even sent the hair to a reputable company for me. He cares about the customer, loves to see them smile. He feels blessed to work at Sin Republic, where he is allowed to express his charismatic personality through sculpting hair with his superior skills. I love you Jon! 2. I can honestly say Sin Republic surpasses any expectations I could have for a salon. The atmosphere of the salon is always upbeat and inviting. The stylist are some of the the most friendly and knowledgeable people around. I typically have Sydney do my hair and she always knows exactly what to do even if I myself don't. She's so easy to talk to and always does quality work. I recently experienced a hair crisis at a different salon since I've been away from Grand Rapids, so I called Sin Republic in search of advice. They took the time to explain what they would recommend doing in order to correct the color, and helped me find other salons in East Lansing that are more accessible to me at the moment. I usually avoid the salon scene but I have been impressed with the atmosphere that Sin Republic provides. I was greeted by my stylist (Jon) the moment I walked in the door and was escorted to the door when the appointment was over. I have been back several times since then and the treatment has always been the same. My hair is tricky to cut. It is thick, coarse dark brown hair with different growth patterns and Jon took the time to listen to my ideas and concerns and give me a cut that makes me feel confident and gets compliments. Was looking for a new place to get my haircut after moving to the GR area and found Sin Republic on line. I read some reviews as well as reviews of other salons and decided to make an appointment. I was impressed with the energy and professionalism of the woman who answered and that she asked me some questions so she could choose the best stylist for me. She booked me with Sin which turned out to be a great experience. We chatted for 10 minutes before he started working on me. He explained what he was doing and why and I was very happy with the way my hair looked when he was done. Sin Republic is a great spot and Sin is very talented! Discourage by a long search for quality of services at larger established salons that offered high pricing, frequent visits based on blunt cuts, texturizing and layering that felled apart in few days, I stop salon on March 24, 2026 encourage by 5 stars clients review on Yelp. What I experienced exceeded all my expectations. Sin offered not just a consultation that I seek. He offers a mastery of haircut shaping that include review of hair balance, symmetry and parting by sections. Theres No Way i will ever go anywhere else! what a Great Salon :) Super Clean and stylish.. Each Stylist has their own specialty and they are all Super Fun & very Welcoming! Denis does Amazing men's cuts sculpting with only scissors and his Shampoo massages are amazing! The Star is definitely Sin tho, he can completely transform you and make you feel beautiful! My birthday was almost cancelled due to another salon horribly damaging my hair, 4 bad & expensive salon trips later I finally made it in to see Sin and he Saved my Hair & my birthday party!! I am so impressed with every aspect of Sin Republic. I have been trusting only Sin with my hair since 2009, and am excited to now be a patron of Sin Republic. Sin describes himself as a hair sculptor, and it's such an astute description! This salon is amazing! It's only been open for a year but the atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and inviting. I just moved to Grand Rapids and was in the market for a new salon and decided to try this place. I called to make an appointment and they got me in that day. I went in to see Shawn for a cut and color. She gave me a great new cut and a fabulous new color, a reddish purple that turned out beautifully. I met the owner, and he was very charismatic. I came here after having a very bad experience at another salon. It was the best salon experience I have had to date and I keep going back (I've been to many salons in the area as well as some in Chicago including Mario Tricoci). My stylist is Sydney and she is excellent at both cut and color. The salon itself has a nice atmosphere and I like its location. Also the receptionist deserves a shoutout. Always more than helpful. I have to move out of state in the near future but I'll probably come back to have my hair cut here exclusively. read more

I've watched several work while getting my hair done and everybody left looking amazing. I've been having Shawn do my hair for the last two years. She is an absolute artist when it comes to hair. Sin and his stylists are the best I've seen. I'm one of those guys who is never satisfied and expects a cut to make me look like a star, despite my age and thinning hair. I previously went to Taylor at Design 1 and then took a job on the other side of the state. I have not been able to find anyone in the area that can cut and style my hair the way I like it. So I followed Taylor to Sin Republic and drive a couple hours into town every 3 weeks to get my hair done. I highly recommend her. She has a great personality and sense of style.
