Reviewing a salon can be a rather tough proposition, as it's highly dependent upon your stylist. MJ has been my stylist for about 4 years now, and I've followed her as her career has progressed. She's easily the best stylist I've ever had. For what it's worth, I'm a curly haired male, meaning I can't just walk in anywhere and expect to have great results. This is not true here. Street parking has never been an issue, I'm always offered a water, and in the rare event that they're behind schedule, they actually have decent reading material, which (sadly) is extremely rare, in this day and age. read more

Aubrey is fantastic! She's very knowledgeable, great with color, skilled at cuts, and will teach you how to best care for your hair and how to achieve the style you want at home. She'll also be kindly honest if what you want won't work for your hair type. I feel very comfortable and cared for in her chair. EXCELLENT QUALITY SERVICE!!! Jessica is a game changer, and I would travel from New Zealand (if I lived there) to Grand Rapids just so I could have my favorite lady do my hair. I've been looking for my new stylist and I'll now look no further! I highly recommend Salon RE and more specifically Emily. Everyone here is very friendly and the atmosphere was great. I showed Emily a pic of the look I wanted to achieve and she nailed it! She cut off more than 13 inches and helped me package my hair so I could donate it. She's also a color goddess! I wanted a very specific look...kinda mushroom brunette, with heavy blond highlights everywhere with a hint of some lavender as well. I'm beyond pleased! I went to get my hair cut and highlighted, my stylist made the highlights bleached platinum blonde and left it that way when I asked for reddish coppery gold. When cutting my hair she didn't look at the picture I had for reference, she went rogue and did it the way she liked. I then when back to have it corrected and my hair is bright orange in only one place and has thick streaks or weird orange color. Then didn't cut my hair. Didn't fully dry my hair and said that my time was up and my hair was damp and dried without care. read more

Just got my hair done at this salon with Misty yesterday. She was fabulous, everybody there was fabulous. She not only listened to what I wanted, but made sure that everything she did would look great in congruence with my eyes, skin tone, and shape of the face. I am so impressed by her work that I can't wait to go back! Also, they don't do work that doesn't need to be done, like my eyebrows, they were fine? I just thought you were supposed to get them done every couple of weeks. BS. So that was cool that Misty and others I'm sure will tell you the truth, not try and take your moola. Not only that, but Misty was very easy to talk to. Makes the whole "getting your hair done" feel like a therapy session where you can just be yourself, talk about whatever you want, and leave feeling refreshed and awesome. I also found out that you can have wine here FOR FREE while you're waiting or while you're getting your hair done. Now that's what I'm talking about. The ultimate hair experience. Salon Re is great and Katie Ensley is the reason I began going here. Katie is a remarkable stylist- I've never had a bad experience or required any touch ups or fixes in the many years we've been working together on my super high-maintenance hair. Katie has great suggestions for changes in my cut and always delivers exactly what I want, which is constantly changing! She facilitates these changes by being very warm and truly listening to what I want. She is sweet and easy to be with, making anyone comfortable with her beautiful smile and laid-back approach. But in addition to creating great haircuts, Katie routinely gives me perfect color. Seriously, such perfect color that total strangers feel compelled to stop what they're doing and ask me how it's done! Jessica is a miracle worker! I went to Salon Re: for the first time today. My hair was destroyed from mail order hair color. It was a nasty color of dark brown and my gray roots were terrible. I have to color every three weeks, because my hair is so gray, so I've been doing it at home. Jessica asked me to stop and told me I could come see her for a mini root touch up as often as needed for a big discount. After that, we spent about 15 minutes talking about my hair and what my dream hair would be...within reason. She really took the time to listen to me and talk through the process of fixing the mess I made. I actually sent my husband a text while she was mixing my color to tell him how wonderful she was before she even started my hair. We decided on a root touch up, partial highlight and a trim to start. I thought I'd have to go back multiple times for her to fix my hair, but by the time I left, I had the prettiest hair I've ever had! I was blown away and hugged her three times before I left! She also gave me styling and make up tips that I had never thought of. The experience was amazing and I cannot thank Jessica enough for the time and care she put into my hair!! read more

Going from long curly hair to cutting it short was a huge step for me! I prayed about it and ended up asking a stranger with super cute, short, curly hair where she got it cut- when she said Alicia at Salon Re I remembered other curly hair friends who were also Salon Re clients so, I made my appointment. Alicia (Sink) Thomas carefully cut about 10" off of my hair which allowed me to donate it! She even offered me a glass of wine as she knew this would be a big change. After many years of just going to chains to get my haircut I decided it was time to try an actual salon that was referred to me by a couple guys I work with. The salon itself is very clean, modern and located in a great part of town. Everyone working there was very friendly and easy to talk to. I arrived about 10 minutes early and waited no more than two minutes for April to come out and introduce herself and bring me back to her chair. The haircut included a shampooing which was nice. April was very easy to talk to while she cut my hair and she did an amazing job. I will definitely be going back in a couple of months to keep my hair looking good.
