Tried out this salon today after hearing mixed reviews. My normal hair place is booked for color so after reading reviews and seeing pics I decided on booking an appointment with Kalee. Immediately knew I was going to have a great time because she was very down to earth and listened to what I wanted and did her best to create that look for me and came out satisfied. I absolutely love my hair now and would come again. The whole ambiance in the salon was wonderful, everyone was always asking if i needed a drink or anything and they did have a bathroom inside if you needed it. Only thing to plan for is the price. It's much more expensive here than any salon I've been to. But you definitely are getting what you pay for. I'm thankful I went and would go again. read more

I was scheduled Saturday at 3 and my son at 3:30 with two different people and my person canceled the day before which is pretty last minute. They asked me to come in at 2:30 and I agreed. Mind you, I live in Kalamazoo and travel to Grand Rapids to get my hair cut because I truly enjoyed my experience here with Alejandro and Stephanie. I assumed all of the stylists were equally as amazing and had no doubt my and my son's haircuts were in good hands. I assumed wrong. Carson would be working on both of us. I chose to have my son go first. I said I wanted a little cut to maintain the curl in his hair. I clarified I did not want it too short and she agreed. She proceeded to barely wet his hair and cut it while mostly dry. When she was finished he was a mess! And, his hair looked awfully short. I was reluctant to proceed with her but I also didn't want to back out since her time was blocked out so I sat in the chair. I showed her a photo of what Alejandro had done before (which I absolutely loved) and she said it would be no problem. By the time she was finished I could see the damage was done so I asked her not to style my hair and just let it air dry. I paid and rescheduled with Alejandro and Stephanie (NOT with Carson). I left pretty upset and it wasn't until my husband said my bangs looked too short and uneven and my son's curls were gone that I broke down. I then called the salon and spoke with someone at the front desk. She said I could return and have Carson fix the issue or get a 20.00 refund. My family had several plans for the evening and I didn't have time to return without canceling them. Remember, I'm from Kalamazoo. And 20.00 didn't seem like a fair resolution. With these two only options, I didn't know what to do. I was put in an awkward position. The woman I was speaking with then transfered me to Cat (one of the owners) without any warning or explanation. Cat answered and sounded annoyed right off the bat. She said, "what's the problem?". I explained my problem to her and the challenge of returning and she said. " Carson specializes in texture so I don't know what the problem is. I've already told you what we can do and you're telling me nothing here, I just can't make you happy. What do you want", in the most condescending tone possible. I told her I didn't know what to do and that saying anything at all was difficult for me since I shy away from confrontation. I was trying to reason with her and see that maybe she was trying to help but she just sounded annoyed and upset with me. I asked her if she was annoyed with me to verify and she began to act odd. She accused me of yelling at her which although frustrated I NEVER did. I asked her to let me speak and she would speak over me and I asked her to refrain from doing so so I could come to some sort of agreement with her. She then said I was insulting by saying I wouldn't want to work with Carson and that I would prefer to work with someone else and would feel the need to tip them because I respect their time but that would cost me more money and I'd be paying more for Carson's mistakes. I proceeded to tell her I was not attempting to insult her stylists which is why I would want to tip them. Then she said, I can't have you talk to me like this and I said, "wait, what's happening here. I'm upset but I'm not insulting you nor yelling, I really want to fix this". After the way this owner treated me I requested a full refund and cancelation of my future appointments. She then hung up on me. I called back and was totally confused as to why she was doing this. I told her that was why I was so afraid of speaking up for myself because some people never want to hear you and shut you down. She was this kind of person. She said, "I agreed to cancel your appointments and refund you, bye." Then hung up a second time. I was in tears. This could have gone very different with a little compassion and understanding. This was the absolute worst experience and it totally could have been avoided. They have a sign in their bathroom about loving more. This owner needs to study that sign. I was treated poorly and my and my son's hair have to wait at least 8 weeks before this can look normal. I know for a fact that Alejandro and Stephanie are the bomb stylists. I am not advising to not go to this salon. I am sharing my experience and I know whoever reads this has a good head on their shoulders and will make the best choice for themselves. Be aware that if you do get a bad haircut you and speak with the owner, Cat Visokay, you will most likely be met with a harsh attitude and little to no care and compassion. read more

I just recently went here for the first time. The salon is very clean and cute. Sam Cooley did a full balayage on me and it turned out awesome! She also gave me a blow out and curled my hair. I paid $205 which was a bit more than I accepted but it turned out great. read more

This review is based off of Ott + Grand's sugaring services as that is the only thing I have been there for! I have followed Jamie for years! She is the only one I trust with sugaring me :) She is awesome! Not only does she doe a great job but she is a sweetheart and I enjoy my visits! The salon is SUPER cute and has a great atmosphere and vibe! The sugaring room is pretty small, but you dont really need a ton of space! A big window brings in a lot of light, so it makes it feel bigger and more open. The rates are reasonable and offer a lot of options! I have send so many people to Jamie over the years, I HIGHLY recommend her! With her current home at Otto + Grand, I look forward to sending more people! Can't recommend enough! read more

I came across Otto + Grand randomly; it is located very close to Founders and above Horseshoe Smokehouse, two places I visit often. I looked up their website (http://ottogrand.com/) and was happy to see that you can book services online. I got an email confirmation with their cancellation policy, parking info, etc. It was super informative and just what I like to have when I'm visiting a new place. Otto + Grand is on the 2nd floor of the Horseshoe building on Grandville. Their entrance is to the left of Horseshoe Smokhouse. Parking for Otto + Grand is across the street, behind the GR Ballet building, in a gravel area under two billboards. (Not in the GR Ballet building parking lot.) They also offer to take off your meter fee if you are forced to park on the street. It took me a bit to find the parking, but it's very convenient to the salon. The salon itself is a great space. It's all open with large windows overlooking Grandville Ave. I asked a bit about the building and the salon; it's been open for about 6 months and the owner was a stylist at a previous salon that closed. The brick and wood in the space are all original to the building which was built in the 1800s. My stylist, Amanda, was very friendly and nice, we had some great conversation going but I didn't feel like I had to be talking the entire time. She made sure to ask about what I wanted for my style (I was just getting a cut) and listened to what I had to say. She took time to make sure the cut was perfect, going through at the end and texturizing the ends of my hair so I didn't have that "I just got a haircut!" look. I got 10% off since it was my first visit, and they have a referral program so if you refer someone there, you get $10 off your next service. Overall I highly recommend this salon and I will definitely be back. read more

I recently moved to the GR area and desperately needed a haircut. I have long, thick, coarse Asian hair so it's definitely a challenge to find a good stylist and I rarely like my haircuts after it's cut. It was very easy to make an appointment for the next day. The place was clean and everyone followed COVID guidelines. I had Stephanie for my stylist who was very professional and cut my hair exactly how I wanted. She verified the length and how thin I wanted my hair cut. I appreciate it when stylists do what I ask! I am not a fan of a lot of unnecessary chit chat so my experiences was perfect there... friendly but not too much. Stephanie took her time to cut, shampoo and style my hair without rushing me out the door. It was $45 which is what is listed on their website. I thought they would add more because of the length and volume of my hair so I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely be going there again! read more

My sister and I go to McKenzie to get our hair done. My sister lives in Kzoo and I live Charleston, SC. McKenzie is an amazing hair artist. She explains everything and really listens but also takes into consideration of what will really complement our skin tone and fit into our daily regime. My sister has lived in balayage hair that complements and blends in with her grays but doesn't cover it fully because she still wanted her grays to show. I have blonde dimensional lived in balayage that is low maintenance and grows out great with the root smudge. Also, I am Asian! No brass here! So Asian girls out there that know how hard it is to find a good stylist to do color and not go through that orange brass - go to Otto + Grand and McKenzie is your girl. Like for real. All I can say is wow. I am not usually a nice salon kind of guy but Otto and grand has the perfect vibe both for those looking for decadent service as well as those looking for a quick trim. I came in 3 weeks ago for a men's cut and worked with Lauren. Upon arrival i was offered a drink and greeted by the receptionist, and soon led to my chair. Lauren introduced herself and took a minute to sit down and listen to me and tell me about herself as well. This was a huge!! She offered tips on small things she could do to up my "hair game". I just kind of went with it and by the end I walked out with easily the best looking hair cut ever. There was also a head massage and overall pampering that added to the experience. I was so happy I booked my second appointment right then and there. My wife has also been to the salon and had an awesome experience with Cat, she got eye lash extensions and they looked great. She came home raving about how much fun it was to sit with Cat for an hour. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Went from a recommendation of a friend to see Jamie... she is the best... personality, attitude, professionalism etc...she is worth every penny... This is for The Lash Haus In Lowell. I have been getting my eyelashes done with the same person for years! That said, prices have gone way up and quality and customer service have gone way down. Do not do the lash contract unless you read every last word and ask questions...even if you ask you won't get a straight answer. My lashes barely stayed on for one week after a fill. It is not always the customers fault. Oh and to the lash artist..put your dirty cell phone down in between putting on lashes..this is very unsanitary to the customers eyes. Really nice salon and have received other services in the past. I went in to have my roots touched up, kind of bummed about my hair now. My hairstylist didn't really talk me through what she was doing and added a glaze to my hair that changed the color. I went in with a honey blonde and left with a darker blonde that just doesn't pop the same. Ended up paying way more than I thought I would for a root touch up and now I'm left with a shade I don't like. If I had been told that she couldn't match the color or it might end up darker I might have been at peace with it, but was shocked how it turned out. Don't get me wrong, they use quality products and the processing was done well. But definitky not what I asked for. Conversation wasn't too great and I was scratched a couple times ( people who work with their hands maybe shouldn't have such long nails). read more

Francie spent a long time teaching me vintage styling techniques and was generally just so kind. This salon has a great vibe! Lots of natural light and a wide open floor plan make the space feel airy and welcoming. It has a rustic/glam feel...lots of sparkle contrasted with cow hide floor coverings for example. The salon took me last minute and paired with with Candace, a edgy but professional stylist that is experienced and fun! Candace did a fantastic job listening to (and interpreting) my needs. The end result was a great haircut (including shampoo & scalp massage at no extra cost). As a newbie to Grand Rapids, I lucked out in finding Otto & Grand (and Candace) right away. where do i even begin!! first of all, the place looks so great. it gives off a very nice modern look and the windows are huge so a lot of natural light comes in. i come in and am instantly greeted. i wait for less than five minutes and the stylist comes out and is ready for me. my mom came along with me and was offered coffee or water. my hair stylist was jackie. she asks me so many questions to make sure i get exactly what i wanted. i had gotten a bad haircut that left my hair looking choppy and uneven. and let me tell you... jackie did an INCREDIBLE job on my hair. she completely transformed my uneven layered haircut to an amazing lob. she was so friendly and made me feel comfortable by always checking with me to see if i am satisfied with the length. i highly recommend this place and i definitely recommend you get your haircut by jackie!! read more

I left my third time with my hair completely damaged and a brownish/green color.
