A friend who now lives near Grand Rapids spoke highly of her experience at The Parlour, so I knew I was in good hands. The Parlour is located at the City Flats Hotel. Service from the start was truly wonderful and I felt like a princess the entire time I was there! I wish I knew the name of my stylist because she deserves a raise. Getting my hair or makeup done always gives me anxiety, but I've never felt more comfortable or at home. The stylist (again, I wish I knew her name!) talked to me while she washed my hair and together we figured out what kind of style to do for the wedding. We decided to do a sleek blowout because I typically wore my hair straight as is. I really loved that she didn't try to pressure me into a different style as well. My makeup was AMAZING! She made sure to ask questions to make sure of what I wanted and that I was comfortable with everything. I mentioned that I prefer a more natural look and every step of the way I was asked if I wanted something darker or lighter. I felt like my time and opinions were, which isn't something about every salon I've been to. Overall I plan on driving to Grand Rapids just to get my hair done again. Not only is she detail oriented and friendly, but she is also knowledgeable of the products she uses on all clients. I think this speaks volumes to the spa because if my nail tech can speak about the product it makes me more comfortable about what is being put onto my body. The physical space is well kept and clean, and I have not felt worried about catching a foot fungus from the tubs (I know that's a thing at other spaces). The only downside is scheduling, I feel like Design One is a bit understaffed unfortunately, so getting in can be a challenge. I always try to book far in advance to make sure I get what I need. Although, I know they do sometimes have walk in appointments. Other services offered here include hair cuts, make up, and massages. I have not gotten my hair or make up done here, but I have gotten a few massages. The spa portion is very calm, and I think they do a decent job with the services. Got a call a couple hours later. My phone says it lasted only 2 minutes. During the two minutes I was interrupted and informed 6-7 times that the technician was very upset, she was very upset, apparently very very upset. I actually started to apologize. What?! I had a $50 failed manicure. A brief apology from THEM to ME, and a refund was all that was required. Pulling me into staff drama was highly unprofessional and inappropriate. How or why management selected to inform the technician re the manicure in a way that upset her so badly is entirely their fault/responsibility.
