The staff here are always friendly, quick, and do a good job. What I love most though is the schedule flexibility and variety of hours available. The location is convenient, the establishment is clean, and payment/tipping is easy. Appointments can be made over the phone or online. Parking - street parking, not usually an issue (even around lunch or dinner hour, I can usually find an open meter, so make sure you have the Motu app or quarters on hand). I liked the front staff at this location better than my experience in the Grandville location, however, in Grandville I had a better waxing experience. I knew at the moment I was there that the tech pulled on extra strands of my hair and did not use good technique on left sideburn just by the initial feeling but now a few days after, I'm still having pain and the left sideburn is full of bumps and bruised. (She seemed a bit rushed, and I was there on time so time shouldn't have been an issue.) I'm VERY happy I did not use this visit to try eyebrow waxing for the first time -- I think I'll stick to threading. I'll try to visit again to see if my experience is different but if my skin gets any worse, I'm not too sure. I didn't care for Sassafrass in Grandville so I tried the Downtown GR location. I loved the esthetician but there were still hairs leftover when I left from my underarm and Brazilian wax. The same thing that happened at the Grandville location. My hair also grew back much quicker than other places. read more

I have been to sassafras a few times. The experience from the estheticians were okay. However, my last appointment was canceled 2 hours before I was supposed to go into the salon. The receptionist stated that she would need more time for my wax and that I booked to close to closing time. But the spot I chose was available online and why wasn't I notified earlier? It seems ironic that the owner complains about people canceling on her when her salon did just the same to me. Although I haven't interacted with the owner, I can tell by her responses to the yelp reviews that she is abrasive and unprofessional. If you ever have a complaint it will be replied to with an excuse. Criticism is obviously not taken well by the owner. I will not be coming back here nor will I recommend this salon. I would suggest Waxology in East Grand Rapids. She is accommodating and does a great job! read more

I had a great experience here! When I called to make my appointment, they were SO sweet and excited for me. I want to note that they informed me of their late/cancellation policy right off the bat. Plus, it says in the email to allow extra time to find metered street parking. It did take me 10-15 minutes to park & walk to the location so seriously - give yourself extra time!! The waiting area is super cute and the receptionist and my esthetician were both incredibly kind! Caitlyn did a wax on me (my first time ever!) she was very professional and made me feel comfortable. It was not that painful, I was expecting way worse! And so far, the after care has been manageable. I appreciated the printed tip sheet and exfoliating glove. This place really goes the extra mile! Another bonus was that it was quick, I was in & out in 20 minutes, and on with my day. Plus, I did my research, and they have the lowest price in the area! The competitors are 5-15 dollars more. I will absolutely be back to see Caitlyn! read more
