When my 2014 MacBook Pro's "E" key died, I turned to Apple Support. They listed local repair shops to take it to, and Simply Mac was the closest. I drove the hour and 46 minutes to get there because I wanted help from the pros. I got there and found two employees sitting at a desk, and the store was empty otherwise (no other customers to help). They greeted me on the way in, and I explained that my E key wasn't responding to being pressed. They said they don't fix individual keys and don't work on older computers that are out of warranty because it's not worth their time vs the money they would make. I was told Apple would replace the entire case for $760, which is more than my Mac is worth now. I asked if there was anything else I could do or if my Mac was totaled, and was told that was all they could do. I said I would just buy a new one then, and I walked over to the Macs for sale to shop. No one offered to assist me in making a purchase. I asked if they took trade-ins like the Apple Store does, but was told they only take 2016 or newer. I felt like they could have volunteered that information. I left without buying anything. On the nearly 2-hour drive home, I thought of ways I could salvage my computer. I stopped at Walmart and bought a $10 windows keyboard, so that was on option that let me log in. I researched accessibility options built into Catalina and found I can pin a keyboard to the screen. Not only that, but I can create an individual board and add keys for a lowercase and capital E so I can just click on it to input the letters. That is how I have typed this entire review, and it actually works pretty well combined with autocorrect. Here's a screenshot of my solution. Did the guys at the Simply Mac repair shop know about adding panels to use keys or using an external keyboard and just not offer those solutions because they wouldn't make any money with those easy fixes? Or are they not very familiar with the products they are supposed to be the experts in? What was clear to me in my one experience with Simply Mac was even when I was the only customer in the store, whatever they were doing on their phones was more important than solving my problem or helping me buy a replacement laptop. I contacted Apple about this problem and they said they could replace the case for $597, so even that quote from Simply Mac was off by over $100. Was it elevated by their middleman fee just to send it to Apple for me? In any case, I won't be going back. I recommend against wasting your time as well. read more

This is the worst experience I've had with a repair shop. After leaving my MacBook Pro 13" at the store for a screen replacement, I was told that the cost of repair would be $620 with tax included, but when I went to pay this in person, they bumped the price up to $720. Apparently, the prices changed that week even though they previously quoted me $620. I refused to pay the $100 extra, but was appalled that they would do this after quoting me. Spent $811 for them to fix my laptop as the backlight was out. Picked it up today and my computer was messed up. Do they not test computers before they send them out the door? Ridiculous, just don't go to this location. Also the computer gets a pop ad that won't go away. Im so glad I dropped $800 for professionals to mess up my computer. Update: Went in this morning for the guy to tell me my computer has malware and that they don't even have my password, even though they do. This is a manager. Also I have never had an issue with "malware" specially not before taking my computer here. The manager also stated that the screen can glitch and that is totally normal. Took my iPhone in for a screen repair. Made the mistake of asking if anyone have been reporting this model of phone having problems with the sound. then then told me that instead of the $129 to replace the screen it would be $350 and if they found nothing wrong with the sound, then I would be charged a $500 fee. I told them that I just wanted my screen replaced and they said they could not do just that since I said I had a problem with that. I left the store with my phone and the next week, I just so happened to be in Houston. Took it to an Apple store and 1 hour later and $129 later, my screen was replaced. So far I am impressed with the staff here. I've purchased two refurb computers from them (desktop and laptop). They've been very helpful to me regarding peripherals. Always polite and competent. I've seen them have to deal with some outrageous and out of control customers with diplomacy when I might have been pushing a button in the back room to ask for a police response. In fact, I once considered stepping out and calling for police assistance to protect the staff, but they managed to contain the situation. Although they have busy times (which I try to avoid) they try to both meet the needs of their customers and not waste time. I do refer friends to this location. Since the closest Apple store is quite some ways away it is an acceptable substitute. Some things may require direct Apple intervention, necessitating a drive to Dallas, but I try to avoid that. I note that the Apple store I used to go to in San Diego, CA was also panned in reviews and yet it was a very good place for me. It may have to do with expectations and assumptions. read more

My iPhone needs a new battery and I scheduled an appointment at this business through the Apple support app. I arrived and was given condescending, rude, and brusque treatment and the service personnel informed me, as if it was my fault, that battery services are not same-day "after four." I was very disappointed to discover that this was an off-brand Apple Store and not a macaroni and cheese restaurant.

I had a problem re-loading software on my Mac after erasing the hard drive. AppleCare, while usually very good at solving problems, could not resolve this one and sent me to Simply Mac. While he could not install software for free, as AppleCare said they could, the technician did some diagnostic checking and made a couple of suggestions. After his diagnostic work (verifying the disc), and following his suggestions, I was able to install the most recent OS. Problem solved. read more

Tried to get an I-Phone battery replaced. In store-twice ---Once "no batteries in stock, check back"---next "call on Thursday to reserve battery, then come back". Called, "we no longer reserve batteries, make an appointment on-line." Made appointment on-line, called back "You can't make an appointment online until you bring you phone in and we examine it." When I told them their process was ridicules, their response was, "yes but that is what it is." My guess is they really don't want to replace any I-Phone batteries. I purchased a MacBook Air/Cover and Seagate Backup Drive a couple of years ago from this store. The Seagate has never worked correctly, they transfer all my data etc., from old computer to the new one. I went today and was told they would not wait on me if I didn't wear a mask. I said I didn't have one and I was told to "Go Out and Buy One."He then turned to walk away. I said I would wear a paper one if they had it, he said they didn't have any, however the other man working there reached under the counter and gave me one and helped me. Don't bother taking Apple products in for warranty service. They act like they can do it, but the whole place is a disorganized cluster and really, they don't seem to know much about it. I sat in this place for a total of 4 hours over 3 trips, and got to see how disorganized it is. Several iphones were always being juggled on the counter, and the employees were constantly asking each other "Whose phone is this?" and losing track of what was happening on the different phones they were 'working on'. I took in my new ipod that will not work, was told I had done something to break it (what?), they messed around with it for over an hour, then a different employee told me I had to come back another day when the 'head tech' was in. This guy had big flaming pentagram tattoos. I came back 3 days later, and presented it to the counter person, who again told me I had broken it (how?), then he told me the head tech would disassemble and inspect it. Out came (you guessed it) pentagram guy, who took my device and disassembled it. Huh. Guess he knew how after all. My pod sat on the counter, all taken apart, for two hours while yet a third person held a 'chat' with apple about my non-functional device. After two hours, I was told I needed to talk to apple myself, they sort of popped my ipod back together and sent me on my way. Apple gave me the runaround for a while, then sent me a new one in the mail. Fine. Point is, don't bother with Simply Mac for service. It's just a bunch of condescending but ignorant kids. read more

I read the reviews before I made the trip to Tyler. I saw good and very bad revieaws. I keep in mind that more people like to complain than compliment, so I took it all with a grain of salt. Man, those bad reviews were an accurate description of this place. Three phone calls before I decided to drive there. These kids are not very enthusiastic about what they do. You get put on hold and they don't seem to understand that a 5 minute wait on the phone is like standing in line 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the store I noticed that most of the staff was busy, so I waited. When Suzan finished what she was doing on the computer she just sat there and stared off. I approached her and told her we had just talked about an hour ago. She didn't remember. Okay fine. So once again I told her had never owned a Mac and what I was looking for. She showed me a refurbished 2010 MacBook.I said tell me about it. She spouted off the stats in just a few seconds. I said ,NO, tell me about it. Features benefits etc. She went on.I stopped her and said. Tell me how this compares to a new laptop or PC. "Oh, I don't know much about those anymore, I have only had Macs for 8 years. Really? If you sold Chevys, don't you think you should know something about Fords and Dodges ? So, you tell me what makes yours so different? I asked to use the restroom since I had driven a ways. "We don't have a restroom, sorry. You can go next door to Starbucks. My jaw hit the floor. Granted I was only looking at a 499 used unit. What does it cost to pee in that store? I left a bit bitter to say the least. Walked into Best Buy and was greeted by the rep from Apple and a nice young fellow he was training for Best Buy. Ten minutes and all questions answered I looked at all brads at all prices. Walked out with a brand spanking new MacBook Air 13" on sale for the price of an 11" a 64gb flash drive and a wish list of other things I am going to go back and get. I absolutely hate writing bad reviews but this place is quite possibly the worst shopping experience you can experience. It potentially could be a training issue but every time I have been in this store I have been treated very poorly. Several people waiting to speak to an employee but all three of the staff are tied up arguing with their own respective customer. But if you wait long enough, they will get around to arguing with you as well. I would not trust these people to work on an old blackberry I have stashed in a junk drawer. I came here needing to fix (reset) a disabled iPad & get my phone upgraded. I was referred to this place by the AT&T store around the corner, since they were kinda busy & noisy (& I needed to contact a family member by phone to make sure I was correctly added to the family phone plan, & to get the correct passcodes to set up my phone). It would've been more stressful at the busier & louder AT&T store, but it was nice & quiet at this store where I got great one-on-one attention. The staff were also kind & patient with me in explaining things & waiting for me to complete the necessary calls. They also have a great selection of accessories for both phones & iPads such as colorful charging cords, protective cases, & screen protectors. They even installed the screen protectors (doing a perfect job, I might add!) & disposed of the packaging. It was a great experience overall! read more

Simply Mac in Tyler is a fantastic store. I've had pc computers 30 years and got a new iMac 5k (my first Apple) in October. Loved the staff when I purchased iMac AND when I took it in because of pixel problems when watching full screen video. Apple phone support was wonderful and after three different attempts to diagnose I was told to take in to the store. I did and had the best experience. Everyone is professional (trust me - no dimwits here) and Chris "the tech guy" was so helpful. I have more than a passing knowledge of computers so having someone to talk to who actually knows what he's talking about is so refreshing. After being told by Apple that it was probably the video card (YIKES!) I was so relieved when I was told it was only that the streaming video is no match for the 5k so I just have to enlarge the screen instead of watch full screen. No problem. No repair. This is why I'm going Mac and I'm really happy Simply Mac is here. read more

Good service and stuff, but I called asking to get 4 keys on my keyboard replaced and they said that they would have to replace the whole bottom half of my MacBook. It would start at $400. All I need, is 4, four, replacement keys. I mentioned that I had seen YouTube videos that were 4 minutes showing how to pop out an old, broken key on a keyboard and replacing it. Well, the guy, who was great by the way, said that they couldn't do that. So, you can take a paper my entire computer, and replace it with a different part, but you can't put 4 keys on it. No thanks. I took my daughters iPhone in to have it checked because it was not charging. The teen sales representative, started out by laying the phone down on the desk top and replied, "your phone is bent, you are going to need a full replacement from Apple which is $300. I told her that she had the phone laying on the camera lens which sticks out about 1 mm on the iPhone 6. The sales rep continued to insist the phone was bent and that was the cause of the battery not charging. I thought what a scam! She then left to go get the manager. The manager comes out with his condesending look and said how can I help you sir. I tried to explain that the rep placed the phone down on the camera and that the phone was not bent and that I am having battery issues. He sticks with the bent routine and says its Apples policy and not ours. We can send it in but, if they say its bent then its a $300 full replacement. At this point I left the store never to return. I went home and did a little research and found out the the battery issue is usually a software issue, so I did a hard reset on iTunes and bam the phone works! I REALLY HATE TO BE SCAMMED! But I'm a fast learner! read more

2 visits to this store. One with an iPhone issue, and one with Mac Air issue (I'm a long-time Mac user--on my 5th Mac). Staff was confused and then dismissive on both. They want to blame the user rather than troubleshoot the problem and offer solutions. Very poor customer service both times. Take your stuff to PC Warehouse. They are slow as molasses, but at least they will give you the attention you deserve, good repairs, and if no repair is possible they offer good advice. read more

I took a flawless, fully-functional iMac in to have the hard drive replaced based on a recommendation from Apple due to the potential for the hard drive to fail. Apple covered the cost of this even though the iMac was out of warranty. The first sign of trouble was when the employees seemed arrogant and bothered that they were being distracted from their personal conversations by a customer. The next sign of trouble was when they called the next day and told me my logic board had failed due to "bugs stuck between the RAM and logic board". Uhhh...NO. My home is more sterile than a surgical room - I don't have bugs. Maybe THEY do! I called Apple who agreed to pay for a new logic board. The third sign of trouble was when I picked up the computer there were scratches on the aluminum body and dust and fingerprints under the screen that were NOT there when I dropped it off. Simply Mac refused to do anything about it and tried to claim that it was like that when I dropped it off even though the drop-off paperwork indicated that the iMac was in perfect condition with no cosmetic flaws. By law they have to inform me before work begins and they did not. They were only authorized to do work under the warranty that apple was playing them to do. I've been skeptical of this place since it opened and now I know I'm never going back. I sent my iPhone in for a repair that was covered under warranty. A few days later I got a call saying that my phone was water damaged, that all of the indicators were red and it was gonna cost me $329 to replace. Here's where it gets fishy. My iPhone has never seen so much as a drop of water. So I contacted Apple and they said to bring it to an apple store. So now I have to waste an entire day driving to Dallas to get my phone looked at. When my phone returned I took it to another place that repairs iPhones and there was only one red indicator and no liquid damage. If you want your iPhone repaired right go to Cole Cellular or make the drive to Dallas this place isn't worth it. Worst customer service experience I've had. read more

I decided to stop by because my iPad was not charging. I walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. (There was one other customer; no wait time). They quickly assessed my problem and went above and beyond to help me fix it. Less than 15 minutes and my iPad is back in service. I was very impressed! I believe they've remodeled, because it looks different inside than in the pictures. Yes, it is slightly cluttered (Then again, so are Apple stores), but every Apple product you could dream of is clearly displayed, along with accessories and cases, clearly organized by product type. Horrible experience! Number one reason? They are liars...the management and staff have no integrity. My one week old IPhone 6 plus screen had a glitch after a week of use. I took it to simply mac(authorized apple dealer). The first rep when I took my phone said "pretty common problem with the iPhone 6 , definitely a hardware issue, don't worry you are covered under warranty, you'll get a new phone on Tuesday". I call on Tuesday, 2nd rep - "phone didn't make it in today, try tomorrow". I call on Wednesday, 3rd rep - "apple is still working on your phone"(keep in mind I was told I was getting a new phone, but now apple is fixing my old phone). Finally I got tired of getting the run around and went to the store on Thursday, 4th rep, brought me my phone - "we tried calling you(they never did), but it looks like your phone LCD is cracked from the inside maybe you dropped it, the warranty will not cover this, it will cost you $320.00 dollars to get it fixed".(they never even opened my phone...straight LIE, because according to them apple still had my phone the day before that was also a LIE, a week old phone, never dropped not a single scratch nowhere). The bottom line...they didn't want to deal with me or my phone and all they did was hold my phone and waste my time to only tell me a week later that I'm screwed. They lied to me, and in the process tried making money off of me. STAY AWAY! I don't know about you guys, but there is nothing in life that I HATE more than LIARS. Will never do business with these guys. Don't bother trying to take care of me after management reads this, already fixed my issue by going to an apple store. read more
