    Fried Catfish

Saw this place on TikTok and decided to give them a try. So glad I did because everything was amazing! From the customer service to the food, 10/10 across the board! Marcus and Jordan were friendly and super helpful when it came to deciding what we ordered. The menu is extensive but we went with the oxtail Rasta pasta, plantain boats with oxtail and shrimp, and fried catfish. Everything was super flavorful. Even though the sauce on the Rasta pasta was delicious, the fish had the perfect amount of batter, and the plantain boats had just the right amount of sweetness, it's still difficult to decide which was my favorite! The place is small but the flavors and portions are big. There is limited seating available and seems like most people take their orders to go. I would definitely come back again and again next time I'm in the area!

I've been wanting to try SF for a while and finally did recently. I wasn't really blown away..the fried whiting was pretty bland and not fried hard like I requested. I also did not receive the lemon pepper sauce that I paid extra for. The wings were also bland. I selected honey Jerk bbq sauce, but I didn't taste a hint of jerk or bbq on the wings. I had to add my own jerk sauce and bbq sauce to them in order to enjoy them. Maybe I caught them on an off day.. On the other hand, the truffle fries were DELICIOUS however!! I may try other menu items at some point.

I have seen this location pop up online and made a mental note to stop by and support. Stopped by one weekday afternoon. Upon entering this waiting/area is a not that big, a get it and go vibe but they do have 1 long high table facing the window and high chairs, which is cool if you do want to eat it there. The staff was mad cool, welcoming and music was vibing! I had been feeling for fried fish lately so was happy that they had fried whiting and fish on the menu. Decided to get the fried whiting with the side of fries it also came with potato bread. My brother decided on getting the beef patty and the oxtail mac & cheese. They were out of the fresh juice for the day, so we decided to go with ginger ale and grape soda. The whiting fish was a bit thin for my liking. Biting into it was a bit underwhelming. The fries were great as they were seasoned with Old bay. My brother thought the beef patty was good and mentioned he should of got it with the coco bread. He stated the oxtail mac and cheese was okay. Will stop by again to try their other menu items.

Man. This is probably the toughest review I've ever had to write. The customer service was top tier, I mean that. Well with the person that I ordered from. It was a brief interaction but all I could think is how much money this young man could make based on the way he interacts with customers. On to the food. So so disappointing. I think it was bruh man from the fif flo who said he used to make wish samiches, and I finally know EXACTLY what he meant. The whiting sandwich LOOKED so appealing, really. Yet biting into it and tasting nothing--no spice, no seasoning, no flavor...just rough man. I ate it because I was hungry, and the entire time I WISHED it tasted like a flavorful fish samich. They sell something called banana pudding but that is NOT what it is. In the middle of me gnawing on liquid mash, I hit something that tasted spoiled and that was the end of it for me. To take this experience all the way to the top, after it was all eaten and done, I realized that bubble guts were included and I didn't even ask for them! It's Saturday morning and it's still going. When I looked this place up and saw that the health department didn't have a rating for it, I thought, eh, how bad could it be. I found out, and found this place on social media--not returning is an understatement, and I really hope they can figure out a way to turn it around and make it better.

Food is okay. Given its name, we mostly got fried items such as empanadas and shrimp. Also got the lobster Mac and cheese. Everything was a bit too salty. Not a terrible meal, but nothing to rave about. Food takes a really long time to prepare.

Saw this place pop up on the Instagram feed and thought the food looked really good to check them out. The menu has a lot to choose from. From patties, Rasta pasta, empanadas, coco bread sandwiches and plantain boats to name a few items. They ran out of the beef patties, so they must be pretty good. We got the chicken curry patty instead which had a good kick to it. The Rasta Pasta was pretty good. It was creamy and also mixed with red and green pepper strips. Had a little heat, but definitely not the spiciest Rasta Pasta I've had, so it would be good for those who don't like a ton of spice. The wings were tender and good too. We really liked the ox tail and shrimp plantain boat. The oxtail was super tender and flavorful. It was nice pairing with the sweet plantain. Overall the food was great. I did have to knock off one star because of the wait time to get the food. Not sure if it was just an off day we went regarding timing, but we had to wait double the 30 minutes wait they told us it would be. I understand about making things fresh to order, but an hour wait is a little ridiculous.

The shrimp and lobster empanada is mad good and they are a great size . The oxtail one is skimped on the meat a little. I feel it could've been stuffed more. The location is small. But they do make your food fresh. It was also great customer service. Ngl I wouldn't care to go back unless I was getting empanadas. My bf said the whiting sandwich was good. They have nice bread options like potato bread. The oxtail Mac was mid. I would never recommend it to Anyone . I kinda guessed it would be from the IG videos but looks can be deceiving. But it was only 9$ but ngl wasn't worth it. The fried shrimp was good, fried a little hard but I don't mind that.

Meh. Had an order of wings over rice. Wings looked good, but they were overcooked, so the meat was bone dry. The rice was bland. Had a jerk chicken patty. It was okay. Also ordered the Rasta Pasta with shrimp. The sauce was akin to an alfredo sauce, also on the bland side. My order totaled over $40 so they threw in a free can of cola, which I used with my rum at home. Meh.

Got there shortly after they opened. There wad only one staff member there. He took our order then made our food. It's a small spot so there are only seats against the window. Menu is detailed and even tells you what your total is with cash vs. credit card. Food was good. The oxtail plantain boat was my favorite. Very delicious. Food took about 30 minutes but I gave them grace since we got there shortly after they opened. The only thing that bothered me was that there was no health inspection letter in the window or anywhere that I could see. Hope they got an A.

Came across this place on social media and happened to be in the area so stopped by. Glad I did and surprised they have been open since July and have no reviews! Food: I ordered the fried lasagna, lobster and shrimp Mac and cheese and the truffle fries. I missed out on the sauces which I'll make sure to get next time. The fried lasagna was delicious (on the sweet side but I like that). The truffle fries were fresh and crispy and the truffle taste is subtle (I hate when adding truffle makes them soggy so I made sure before ordering) and the seafood mac and cheese had great flavor but I was missing that baked taste and could have been more cheesy. Service: the person who took my order was friendly and gave great recommendations. Seems like a one man shop so he is also the one who prepared my food. I will warn that food takes a while to come out. Do try to call ahead if you are taking it to go. I waited 30 min for my order. Also bring cash if possible as there is an additional 4% up charge for using debit or credit. Ambiance: the location is small with cool art work on the walls. Not much seating but high chairs are there if you need to wait. They also have a restroom in the back. Overall I can't wait to come back to tried some of the fried fish options, drinks and desserts!

Everything is delicious here. The space has more seating and the menu has expanded ! The service was great with the owner checking on us and offering sample tastes due to members of my group having hot spicy issues. If you are going the movies around the corner, or to the many events in this area Simply Fried is a must stop. Music is good, too !

The babaganoush, the tahini, the beets, the eggplant and the salad all lacked flavor. The bread was just heated up pocket pita... the mint limeade was fine. The fries were fine. The staffs were very low energies when we visited on a weekend night. The overall ambiance and interaction made us feel a little uncomfortable. We ordered: - eggplant dip - fries - Greek salad (large) - cooked fish - calamari - octopus Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. It didn't taste as fresh and was overall too salty. The eggplant dip had a weird taste. Friend fries were not as crispy and unevenly distributed portions of salt. The calamari was nothing special. The fish was okay, and the octopus was so salty we actually sent back the dish. It was very difficult to enjoy it. The staff was so accommodating and actually took the dish off our bill. (Thank you!! - great customer service!). My favorite item was probably the Greek salad, but then again it's hard to mess up a salad. I would say this is my least favorite counter order style seafood restaurant in Astoria. My friend said great things about it prior to my visit and I really wish I would have liked it.

For the main course, we got a 1 lb king crab with potatoes and sausage in the signature sauce, extra spicy, along with 1 lb of shrimp (cleaned and deveined for an extra charge) in the same sauce. The king crab was absolutely amazing huge legs and cooked perfectly. The signature sauce had great flavor, but the extra spicy level was a little too hot for me.
