Rice and Peas salmon
Blaq D.

This is by far the most disgusting Jamaican place I've ever eaten. I knew it was going to be sketchy when I saw the oxtail gravy extra liquid. Extra soupy. The cabbage is disgusting. The rice is overcooked. It's almost like seafood boil rice. The salmon disgusting. This is by far the most grossest place I've ever eaten. I wish I could get my money back. That's how disgusting it was. I had to throw away the whole food.

Had the oxtail with rice and peas. Very good at a fair price. Have to go earlier for a bigger food selection.

I felt like I was in a restaurant with the time it took . Still despite that issue, I enjoyed my pasta. We were planning a surprise party and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything went off without a hitch; the coordination and attention to detail were incredible. The food was outstanding across the board, with real Caribbean flavor, clearly made with care. The rooftop ambiance set the perfect tone for the night: great vibes, beautiful setting, exactly what you want for a special occasion. But honestly, the service is what took this from great to unforgettable. The ladies working that night were amazing; warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our celebration special. You could tell they actually cared about giving us a great experience, not just going through the motions. If you're in NYC and looking for a spot to celebrate something special (or just want a great night out), Caribbean Soul Rooftop on Merrick Blvd needs to be on your list. Between the individuals in our party, we ordered calamari, thai curry mussels, red red snapper with the sweet, spicy sauce and without, lamb chops and six boss. The lamb chops were a tad overcooked, but the rest of the food was really good Our drinks were nice. Service was a tad slow, but good experience overall.

Time for an updated review because credit is definitely due…read more For nearly the past year, The Door has been in our family's Friday night dinner rotation. Every Friday, my four of us pick a different takeout spot, and without fail, someone always says, "Can we just get The Door?" We've had the curry goat, Rasta pasta, jerk chicken, fried chicken, oxtail, Esco chicken, soups, and the chicken patttttttties... mi God. Mi never taste a food wicked suh yet! Everything is consistently flavorful, fresh, and cooked with love. It's honestly become one of our go to spots because we know exactly what we're getting every single time. In my previous review, I mentioned a less than stellar experience. Looking back, maybe they were just having an off day or maybe I got the pot bottom. Whatever the reason, they've been nothing short of amazing ever since. Whether they changed chefs or tightened things up, whatever you're doing... DON'T CHANGE NADA! And I have to give an honorary shout out to Desrene, one of the wonderful team members who takes the takeout orders. She is ALWAYS pleasant, professional, and genuinely kind. It honestly brightens my day whenever I hear her voice on the other end of the phone. Consistency is everything in the restaurant business, and The Door has absolutely earned this updated 5-star review. Keep doing what you're doing!

Inside there is a line to order, as well as kiosks on the side. There are also two small tables if you want to eat inside. The bathroom is very clean, and they also have a sink by the wall to wash your hands. Service is efficient and I got my food about 15 minutes after ordering. My favorite was 100% the doubles. The basic channa double with tamarind sauce and mango chutney was so soft and perfectly sweet and tangy. The oxtail and goat curry were also good, but the channa was far superior---which says a lot since I love meat. I like the softer texture of doubles more than the thicker aloo pie and thinner/dryer roti. And considering how affordable every item is, I would definitely come back if I am around the area!

The shop is steady busy with takeout orders and the occasional folks (like me) who wanted to sit and enjoy my first doubles there. They only have two tables and chairs. Most people order to go. You may order at the kiosk and wait for your number to be called when it is ready to pick up. The kiosk is good because it easily shows all the sauces you may add to your doubles and the variety of other things like drinks, etc you may order. There is also the option to get in line and place your oder. You can watch the assembly line of workers quickly making food. Then check out with the cashier. They sell lots of different cakes, breads, nuts, and drinks too. I was a little overwhelmed on what to order, but a nice employee helped me out. I showed him what I was trying to order and asked for suggestions. Thanks to him I had the best doubles! Added tamarind sauce, mango chutney, and the benny sauce. The perfect vegetarian meal for $2.50! It is made of roti (flatbread), curried chickpeas, and topped with the sauces. Then rolled up to make a sandwich. So flavorful! I wasn't too sure which drink to get as I wasn't sure what they all tasted like. Chose the Seamoss drink, which is a mix of milk, seams, nutmeg, and some spices. Milky and not overly sweet. This was good. Maybe next time I'll get sorrel, which is hibiscus. They said the peanut drink is good too. Ordered Pholourie with tamarind sauce. These are fried savory dough balls. I couldn't resist getting a sweet treat. So, I randomly picked the salara bread, which looks like a cinnamon swirl bread slice. It is actually stuffed with shredded coconut that is colored red and tastes like cherry. Pretty good and not overly sweet. Definitely add this place to your list of eats in Queens. It is a trek from the city, but so good! Also, nice that it is a little bit away from the loud busy part of Liberty Ave in Richmond Hill. This is about a 15-20 min walk from there on Lefferts Blvd. Restroom available.

She had us feeling like we were the only ones she was serving. Pinky gave us her recommendations and we took her word for it. Let's say she did not disappoint neither did the food. We started with the jerk chicken tacos (spicy) but wow the flavors stood out. Everything was perfect together. Each bite excited my taste buds. Then we did the Cee wings. They were dry rub ( they do not have ranch) the Bleu cheese was good. But as pinky said we did not need any dressing she was right. The food came out hot which is ALWAYS a plus. We had 2 rounds of rum punch. I've had better rum punches but they did what they had to do. Now on to our entrees 1) Yuca Fries with Garlic butter 2) Grilled Broccoli 3 Lollipop Lamb Chops with fried Rice 4) The Heat House Special 5) Shrimp Chow Mein 6) Garlic Shrimp with Smashed Potatoes Literally from 1-6 the dishes were all amazing. They were cooked to perfection. Well seasoned. Each bite was deliverable. Serving portions are more than enough. I am honestly so happy we came here. I can't wait to come back. Pinky truly went above and beyond to make this an amazing experience. Now let's talk about the 3rd round. Pinky made me a Henny drink. This drink was everything I wanted in a glass. I ordered Datiles ($10 - bacon wrapped dates), my absolute favorite Spanish tapa, as well as a Cappuccino. The Datiles were satisfyingly sweet and chewy, with crispy flavorful bacon and crunchy almond. The Cappuccino was smooth, creamy, and strong. I also had the El Camino mocktail, which was made with ginger beer & pineapple. This was light and refreshing. Also got to try the Garlic Shrimp ($19), Pan Tumaca ($7 - bread with grated tomato). Garlic Shrimp came in a tasty savory olive oil sauce containing garlic, hot pepper, and parsley. Shrimp was succulent and juicy. I did not enjoy the Pan Tumaca, which was toasted rustic bread topped with grated tomato, olive oil, and garlic. The bread was stale and hard, while the tomato was quite bland. For the entree, I shared the Steak with Fries ($35). The dish comprised of Hangar Steak, which was sliced into pieces and served medium (though I asked for medium well). While the Steak was bold in flavor, it was not tender enough and on the dry side. Fries were delightfully crispy and addicting with true potato taste. Service was decent. Our waitress was welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Despite the place being very busy, everything came out in a timely manner and we were well attended to throughout our time here. Prices were reasonable, ranging from $7-25 for tapas, and around $26-35 for large plates.
