My boyfriend and I flew into Cedar Rapids from Scottsdale and stopped in this shop to get out of the cold We had the opportunity to meet the owner and he was the nicest gentleman who gave us lots of his time and answered all our questions. *Note* I haven't been here since the flood of 2008. This review is based on what I experienced prior to that catastrophic event. I have a family member who swears by this place, thus the reason our group stopped in this particular afternoon. The owner was super friendly (and a little rough around the edges imo) and was gracious with samples. Additionally, the shop was well-stocked; full of yummy edibles and other gifty items. Disclaimer: if you are bringing children, beware! They will grab everything in sight because they carry a lot of kid friendly merchandise. I purchased a few chocolates (yes, you can buy individual pieces!), but the truffle I remember most was the 'Cadillac.' It was big, nicely decorated and simply just looked too good to eat! Well, it didn't last long. I devoured the truffle, but I wasn't overly impressed...which might explain why I can only remember the name and not what it tasted like. Also, I'm not a smoker, but the shop reeked of cigarette smoke the day we were here. I suppose I'm much more sensitive to the smell because I'm not a smoker and don't spend time with any. Either way the smoke was wafting out into the store---not so appetizing. I don't consider myself a chocolate snob, but I have eaten hundreds of pounds of chocolate over the past 25 years. The chocolate at Simply Devine wasn't 'divine' enough for me (and I LOVE chocolate). I wouldn't drive across town to return, but I'd likely stop if I were in the downtown area and passing by. 4/5 because the customer service was great, despite the fact that I wasn't overly crazy about the taste of the products I purchased. -1 star because the shop smelled like cigarettes. read more

I witnessed the owner throwing a bucket of kook aid at an old woman at the Farmer's market. She was heckling and yelling at vendors who were near her shop. Very rude. I personally would not give this person my business. read more

Such an adorable little chocolate/candy shop. They have a great selection of nostalgic candies and a vast, beautiful assortment of truffles and buttercreams. The lady who has always helped us, I believe she is the owner, is so nice and friendly. We went here for the first time to get some kind of candy assortment boxes for a gift. She helped so much and gave great advice on ways to keep the 4-boxed tiered gift within budget...those little truffles add up fast ya know! I work nearby and occassionaly will stop in over my break to treat myself to a little something, she is still just as friendly as ever. Not to mention that everything is super delicious! Favorites so far: key lime truffle, lemon chiffon truffle, cookies and cream fudge, caramel buttercream, blackberry buttercream, and their Turtles. Great truffles, terrible service. My wife and I decided to stop in. The candy store has a quaint charm, nothing I've never seen before. My wife saw a type of candy she hadn't seen since her childhood. She took a picture to show her sister. The lady behind the counter came running out to inform my wife there were no pictures allowed. Then she pointed out a sign located above eye level where you wouldn't normally see. We brushed off her rudeness and continued to look around. There was a door in the back that was open. I peaked my head in to see if it was a second room. I realized it was just storage and turned around, but not before the lady rudely told me I couldn't go in there. She seemed very paranoid. We quickly paid for our items and left as we felt extremely uncomfortable in the store. read more

They have several delicious flavor of truffles! Like how awesome is that? They put tons of effort into giving us quite the choice when you walk in and all for around $1. I liked the blueberry one the best. I've tried a few and you can't go wrong. Grab a few because they are worth it. read more

Support your local downtown businesses! This place is such a gem. The women who work there, one being the owner I think, are so passionate about sweets and it really shows in how awesome their homemade truffles are. You'll find all kinds of candies from your childhood, from Big League Chew to candy cigarettes, but also contemporary candies like Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Jelly Beans. Their gifts are really unique, and they even have edible gifts for dogs too! One stop at Simply Divine, and you'll be simply hooked (and probably 20 pounds heavier by the end of the year). read more

I had dealings volunteering here a few years back and was treated in a racist manner, as well as witnessed racist/derogatory behavior to potential customers. I have European heritage, but am Black/Native and the shop owner did not like that my name is European. She said that her people are from there and she would not call me by my name. She picked another name and "renamed" me! I was helping with outdoor sales for the downtown farmer's market and her close friend that helps her out was running the booth and proceeded to make bigoted comments at a Black woman that walked by with braids, darker skin, and a summer outfit on. The friend/employee talked about her hair and her clothes/body and said "what does she think this is, California?!" Mind you, I am a Black woman born here, but raised in CA. I pointed this out and defended the woman (who had decided to pretend not to hear and walked on). When I told the owner, she looked uncomfortable with ME, started chatting nicely with her friend, and told me she didn't need me to come back. I am a small business owner, I was working at the co-op and helping bring a lot of small businesses together. I used to take my young niece to her store to create memories. It is horrific that such "old time" hate still exists in this "old time" candy shop. read more

We go to this store often as they have a great selection of items. They also have unique candies for the holidays like gummy rats and bats for Halloween, chocolate roses for valentines. I'm a truffle girl and my favorite is the dark chocolate raspberry. I also like the chocolate dipped dried peach. My husband is partial to the chocolate covered orange peel and brandied cherries. We are taking our grandsons this weekend so they can pick out a bag of Christmas candy for themselves. I know they will absolutely love it. Yes, the owner is a little brusk, but I look past that and just engage her in conversation anyway. She means well. read more

I was at simply Divine today and had wonderful service. We were able to get freshly dipped strawberries, truffles , and chocolate covered potato chips which were all wonderful. The ladies at the store were very friendly and helpful. The store looked clean and we'll keeped. Enjoyed the signs I wish I could have been able to spend the time to read them all. It appears to me that the woman behind the counter engages in conversation to distract you from your total - she actually never even gave me a total and then rang up my purchase.
