Oh, we were disappointed because they only sell whole pies. We wanted to have a slice and then decide which one to buy.... No such luck so we left!! The counter clerk was not sympathetic- there are no public restrooms and we traveled 3 hours. The displays were full with lots of cakes, cookies etc. but all we wanted was a piece of pie! The place looked dark and moody.? Thank goodness the Cedar Rapids Public Library was near by. read more

Working in Cedar Rapids with a large group and we were looking to find a place that specialized in desserts. That place is Kathy's Pies. Great selection of pies, cheesecakes and other goodies. We brought a total of 15 pies over the course of two visits. Nothing disappointed. They were all delicious!! Tired berry, apple, pecan, key lime, banana cream, chocolate and a few others. All very tasty. This was a great find. Pies are reasonably priced. If you have never tried Kathy's Pies, you should. A little something for everyone. There are even sugar free pies. I have only stopped to Kathy's once but I was very happy with the whole experience! The people that worked there were so friendly and pleasant that it might be worth a stop just to get to out of a bad mood or if you need a pick me up! I have to admit at first glance I thought their selection was a bit lower than I expected, but I really don't know enough about the place to determine if most products are pre-ordered or if they do more catering. BUT what they had was excellent! The cookies I bought were delicious and the pumpkin bars are the type to make me drive 5 hours from my hometown to get another! Huge selection! Everything we got was absolutely delicious, would definitely go back for the cakes and cheesecakes.

Occasionally a person just needs some dense rich carrot cake eith cream cheese frosting. Carrot cake is a unique item in that it is difficult to make from scratch. There is a box mix only resembling the cake by the title on the box. There are the big store bakeries who truck their version from some unknown chemical kitchen bakery.. Genuinely haven't had something so yummy in years. I tried the savory kolaches and the lemon bar and it blew my mind. The lemon bar was great (I would recommend more lemon zest if anything) and the perfect level of sweet for me. Many places add too much sugar or filling but this was perfect. The bread around the kolaches are delicious and buttery with a really nice chew. Definitely going to make trips to come up here in the future. read more

They have great pies. Had the caramel apple, very rich and flavorful. The crumb top added a nice touch, the caramel was excellent, and the filing was spot on. Look forward to trying more. Oh yes. These pies are heavenly. I am not a lover of pie, but my husband is. For his birthday I got him the berry crumble, and it was the best pie I ever had. Also, I dare you not to get 16 things from the discounted table (yesterday's items). You could walk out with over 280,000 calories for under $10. The lemon cake, however, is my personal favorite. Holy delicious! I had the opportunity to sample a great number of Kathy's Bakery Delights recently and each one was absolutely magical. the spread at a recent Gathering included Cherry, Dutch Apple, Pecan and Toll House pies. He's been good enough that I feel they could probably be used as currency in a lot of places and certainly if there was some sort of apocalyptic event in the near future, I would certainly be looking to trade for one of these! The most intriguing part of the bunch was the Toll House pie. It was made to mimic a chocolate chip cookie and it did a really good job. The filling was similar to a chess pie with lot a of chocolate chips and a hint of diabetes. The top was a cookie, fulfilling a long standing wish to see the forces of dessert combine, much like a delicious captain planet. This is the sort of place that you go and give them a blank check with your name on it. I must try for anybody who is a fan of pies and even worth it if you're a cake person! read more

They have a full case and freezer full of goodies. I grabbed a lemon cheesecake from the freezer and wanted something fun written on it for Father's Day. They did it and had a blast having fun. The cheesecake was a hit for my household. read more

Great place to get a dessert. Have been several times. They have cookies, cakes, tarts, and pies for the most part. My wife's favorite has to be the lemon bars and since they sell singles they are perfect snack. For myself, the cookies are fantastic. Also try key lime pies in fridge. What a find. Ironically I was out trying to get my steps in for the day when I came upon this gem. After looking it up on Yelp I ventured in and I am so glad I did. I couldn't decide between the chocolate cupcake and the carrot cake cupcake so I got one of each. The cupcakes were simply decadent. Kathy's Pies is the ONLY place I go to get pies...no joke! Once you've had a pie from this well established bakery, nothing else compares. They have earned their reputation as one of the best bakeries in town. Our family faves include the Chocolate Cream, Dutch Caramel Apple and Pumpkin. Love that they offer $1 off for every returned pie tin, we usually save ours up and bring in a whole pile ;) The staff is BEYOND friendly and super helpful. I really can't recommend them highly enough...if you're one of the few people in CR who haven't been in to Kathy's Pies...put a visit at the TOP of your to-do list. read more

We first ordered Kathy's Pies at Thanksgiving. I think we tried about 6 different flavors and I was very satisfied...until eating leftovers and discovering hair in the Bayou Goo. It didn't stop me from eating the slice (because it was that good), but we probably won't return again. read more

I called to order a Lemon Meringue pie for Mother's Day. I was asked if Lemon Supreme would be ok..sure, why not? (The former Kathy's Pies made traditional Lemon Meringue) The website description says a light lemon filling topped with whipped cream and a tart lemon drizzle. We were sadly disappointed, the pie lacked flavor and was topped with a 1/4" meringue, not the whipped cream and drizzle. read more

What a wonderful gem hidden in the area between Cedar Rapids downtown and Newbo. The smell of warm baked goods hits you as soon as you walk in, and it takes everything in your power to not buy everything in the entire bakery. Kathy's Pies offers everything from pies (obviously) to cookies to streusels to cheese cake and more! The staff is wonderful and welcoming. It's quite a treat! There are single, individual servings for a quick bite for yourself or entire pies and cakes for you and your guests for any occasion. I had never heard of this place until a friend took me there. Bought a couple pies for the holidays after being told how good they were and was left bewildered how they got that reputation. The pies we're by no means bad just average at best. For the price and the reviews I was expecting far better. You could get something of equal quality out of the freezer section of any store and I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to pass store-bought frozen pies off as their own.
