The tart berries cut through the sweetness of the cheesecake flavors. The staff were warm and cheerful and as sweet as the candy next door. I felt like a long lost friend upon arrival. I enjoy the cozy & old fashioned atmosphere of the Soda Fountain Shoppe. The building is an impressive 150 years old and was a traditional mercantile/general store. It feels both old and yet familiar to me. Even the restroom was clean & tidy. With a price as yummy as their treats I feel I'm likely to return often.

Now located in the Twixt Town Shopping Center (off of Collins Rd., and across from the mall), you can pull right up to the store front and pop in. They also have designated "Betty Jane's Customer Parking." We stopped in a week after Valentine's Day. Remaining Valentine's merchandise was 1/2 price, but we chose to build our own 1/2lb. assortment for $12.99. Store is super clean and tidy. You can stock up on all sorts of pre-made chocolate boxes from the display shelves (Gremlins are prepackaged for easy grab 'n go and take up an entire display themselves), or build a box like we did. You can even buy a single piece of chocolate if you don't want to feel so guilty. My husband enjoys their peanut butter cups and I prefer the coconut clusters and famous Gremlins. As stated in my previous review (when the business was at Lindale Mall), Betty Jane's is also great for a variety of other candies such as gummy bears, fruit slices, as well as nuts and more. These items are sold by the bag. They also have some sugar free candy options. The two women working were very friendly. Jessica assisted us during our visit, asked me if the way the chocolates were arranged in the box looked okay before closing the lid (yes, really!) and even offered gift wrapping. Highly, highly recommend.

The store front is very cute, and the interior is very cozy. But above all else: the CHOCOLATE! There was a wonderful aroma when you walked in. The owners take great pride in their craft, and it absolutely shows. They are incredibly knowledgeable and competent, yet still find opportunities to further their expertise. We bought so much, as it was hard to choose just a couple items. So far we have loved everything. One fun surprise: the chocolate covered Twizzlers - trust me, they are worth it. I think they would also be awesome covered in dark chocolate too. The chocolate espresso with espresso salt (I think that was the name - please correct me if I'm wrong) was AMAZING, and I think my favorite...if I *had* to pick one favorite. They have also figured out how to ship around the US, which is wonderful, because we live in Texas, and can now get their chocolates delivered to us. I also love how they care about humanity. I love that this business took COVID safety seriously during the height of the pandemic, and chuckled at the art that supported mask wearing and distancing, when it was very necessary. Plus, there support of the LGBTQ+ community warms my heart. Sorry for the novella. The TLDR version is this: great store, AMAZING chocolates, fantastic humans. Make plans to frequent this wonderful business.
