Fantastic chocolates, ice-cream and customer service! This was our first visit to the area and we were very impressed. Very homey layout and the smelks hook ya! We purchased Bearclaws (Chocolate, Carmel, Pecans) a few Truffles (Chocolate Cheesecake and Mint)...then ordered some ice-cream (chocolate for the Mrs and Butter Pecan for myself)....then the fudge bars caught my eye so we grabbed a "brick" each of a Chocolate Mint and a Chocolate/Peanut Butter one. read more

Fun little gem in the heart of Amana. The minute you walk in the door you are greeted with the sweet smells of confectionery delights! Visually you can't look in enough directions at once. It's a quaint shop with lots of history and a feast for the senses. There are so many choices it's hard to settle on what chocolatey goodness you want to sample. The girl working early on a Sunday was friendly and working hard to keep up with the yelp crowd. If you're in Amana check it out and don't worry about the calories these don't count! We stopped in here before leaving town and got two truffles the dark chocolate raspberry truffle and the milk chocolate truffle. Truffles were heavenly. My family is a chocolate lover so we all wished we would've gotten more so this is a place we will be sure to come back and visit. Also got two caramels and they tasted so yummy, salty, chewy and homemade. This place is a gem! Update: upon reflection, my review was mostly based on the customers in front of me, not the business itself. As the business mentioned in their response, finding help is a nationwide issue right now. THE Chocolate Haus is an Amana institution. We stopped in here around 2pm the Saturday before Christmas. Amana itself was hoppin' and The Chocolate Haus was no different. I had intended to buy a few things, but the line was too long and the customers and the kids ahead of us were indecisive. Like, hurry up. If your kid can't decide what he wants give him 10 more seconds then choose for him. Be respectful of the other customers. Get in and get out. So, that was frustrating. I know you can't tell a customer buying one piece of chocolate to move along, but come on. The Chocolate Haus is under new ownership and from what I've seen on social media they have had some staffing issues and can't even open for business some days. That's so unfortunate. I can't speak to the quality of the merchandise as we didn't wait around to purchase anything, but visually everything looked great. Will return when the off-season comes around. read more

Oh my word! Shopping through Amana obviously requires some chocolates. My kids loved being able to watch them make things behind the glass. We all were able to pick a few treats. My daughter loved her marshmallow delight. My son loved his chocolate dipped cherries. My husband and I got chocolate covered espresso beans and chocolate covered amaretto cordials. Each item was delicious. While we didn't get coffee, even that smelled lovely. Thanks for everything!!! read more

This shop is filled to the rafters with chocolate and other delicious treats all made in house! There is case upon case of fudge, truffles, chocolate dipped anything you can imagine. They also serve hot and cold drinks and feature vintage and novelty snacks. We picked up an iced turtle latte with their homemade whipped cream and two bars of their walnut fudge. When walking through the insanely gorgeous town of Amana, how can you not stop in a place called Chocolate Haus?? All of the chocolates are made in-house (in-haus?) and you can watch them make it and talk to the people making it. There's a large selection, and you can buy individual pieces, bulk, mix and match--whatever you want. The chocolates felt a little pricey for their size, but well worth it for the experience. Make sure you check for super cheap factory reject candies, too! My only wish is that they served pie, but there are plenty of bakeries around town for that. Don't miss it! read more

Soooooooooo bummed that this is not my favorite place in the world, or at least in Iowa! I mean chocolate, chocolate drinks, smoothies, candy & ice cream... are all things that spark my joy. What could go wrong???! Here's what, after finding this place in the summer, I dreamt of returning to CH in the winter, snow on the ground, sipping a large cup of hot cocoa, walking the streets of Amana. Instead, when I returned, I got a cup of watery, flavorless, hot liquid. A complete BUST and disappointment. The hot cocoa lacked flavor, richness, thickness, and sweetness. Additionally, the smoothies there taste more like sugar ice than real fruit blended with vegetables, yogurt, juice or milk, etc. (I've been back several times hoping that it'd get better), and when I tried to order ice cream, they were out of the flavor I wanted. So word to the wise, if you go, get there early while "supplies last." Also be prepared for a line. Unfortunately the place appeases more to my eyes than my taste buds. read more

This was an awesome little chocolate shop! All the chocolates seemed home made and were very tasty! In particular the chocolate dipped espresso beans. The chocolate though is 'conventional' when it comes to what flavors they use. No chilies, jalapeno, basil infused chocolate pieces here just your 'typical' kind of selection but sooo worth it! I did have a slight issue though. The staff there seems not eager to acknowledge customer's presence or customers coming in. They did not ask if I needed anything. I was just left to wonder. They were very transfixed with filling bags full of chocolates in front of me so they did see me. Almost reminds me of a Stepford Wife. When I finally did make my choices for what I wanted in the case though and told them I was ready to buy something they were very friendly and professional... just that one little hang up of interacting with the customers was a bit strange. read more

There are a lot of awesome little places in this area but if you want the most amazing Hot Chocolate ever, you've got to try theirs!! Hot chocolate is definitely a must try! - it has a very rich taste to it and is better than anything I've ever had before! Wanted to get something for my mother-in-law in Iowa for her birthday. I called the store (I'm in San Diego) and asked them for suggestions. After some discussion, we settled on a selection of treats. They placed everything in a gift tower and I asked them to mail it off as soon as possible after giving them the address. Our visit was pleasant and we were greeted by a friendly person as we walked in. We had been here before and wanted to try something new. The chocolate creams we bought (maple nut, lemon, and orange) weren't to my liking. They had an artificial taste to them. Now someone else tasting them may not experience the same thing. I'm picky when it comes to chocolate. I also had a caramel frappechino and it was delicious. It could have been blended better to break up the ice. We bought fudge also and it was very good. We visited during Maifest 2012. They had a sample plate of maple fudge that was superb so I bought a half pound of chocolate nut and maple nut fudge to take home. What an expensive disappointment after I got home. The chocolate nut was tasteless, Fantasy Fudge is 100x's better. But the maple nut was absolutely terrible. It was more like burnt butter taste with absolutely no maple flavor. Given the condescending attitude of the employees, I wouldn't want to have to tell them their fudge is disgusting. I have all but one bite free for postage if anyone wants it. read more
