Another hit! My now 21 year old daughter bought me a birthday cake today and it was fantastic! I'm an Amazon addict so this was the perfect gift. I admit it...I have a big sweet tooth and I get weak in the knees for a good cupcake or cake. I was happy to come across this bakery after moving to the area especially my go to place is closed due to covid. The bakery is tucked away in the corner of a shopping center so I almost missed it. Upon entry, I saw a decent array of cupcakes and cakes in display. I ordered 1 lemon, 1 vanilla with chocolate frosting, and 1 almond. Of the three, I enjoyed the lemon which had a fluffy icing and lemon curd inside. I wanted to like the almond because the taste was there but the cake was alittle heavy for my liking. Ditto for the vanilla and the chocolate frosting was too sweet and missed the mark. I think I'll order a small cake in the near future to see if the texture is better (less wet and heavy) than the cupcakes because I'm really looking for a go to local bakery. read more

Over the last few years, I have ordered several times from this bakery. I've ordered large quantities of cupcakes. I've even ordered large quantities through Nicks of Clinton from this bakery. Of course the cupcakes were delicious. However, my last large order was repulsive. Commonsense would inject that this was not done on purpose. So I made contact with the bakery and their professional response was heartbreaking. I was told, "Oh well ya I don't know, we use same recipe all time, sometimes don't get color etc...". How on Gods green earth is that customer service or an appropriate response from a corporation or business to a customer? How in the world do you tell a customer not to order color icing, it is your job as a professional to balance out your ingredients. Terrible customer service!! Ordered a cake for my father's 70th Birthday. Specifically told the owner, we didn't want fondant on our cake and she agreed to use buttercream icing. Called a week before to increase the cake size and the person on the phone agreed and reiterated that the icing would be buttercream. The cake had a huge bubble on the top of the cake, we were disappointed but we let that pass. Along with the cake not looking like we asked after we gave her a picture of the kind of cake we wanted and told her the colors were black and gold. She decided to make her design. Called the bakery two days after the event to complain about the icing only and the owner says we never specified the icing type and there was nothing she could do. Very rude and unprofessional. I passed by on my way to do a rescue at the animal shelter. I called ahead of time and ordered 4 cupcakes. When I got there I saw 2 people inside, so I waited outside. When I got inside the owner was serving customers and was wearing a mask. I was happy to see that. She had seen me standing outside with my rescue and asked if I was there to get sweet potato cupcakes. I said no, but since she mentioned it, I would take one extra for the pup. I took the living off and he had a little celebration cake to start his freedom ride off on the right foot and to celebrate his rescue. He wolfed it down! I took my time with mine so that I could really savor them. The peanut butter chocolate cupcake is what pulled me in, but the strawberry lemonade and champagne and raspberry were a nice surprise. Delicious and moist, the chocolate wasn't too sweet and the peanut butter was perfect. I also tried the strawberry lemonade and it made me sing hallelujah! Great local bakery! I first heard of Cakelicious when I purchased individual cake slices from Nicks if Clinton which is in the same shopping center. The cakes are flavorful, moist and undeniably homemade. One day on my way to the car, I noticed that the actual bakery that supplies items to Nicks was right across the way. I stopped in and purchased a variety of cupcakes and was impressed! The person who I believe is the owner happened to be in that day and was very pleasant. This is my go to local bakery. I've had 2 speciality cakes made here with Terry and I'm always impressed. I don't feel a need to search for another bakery. Another great plus is that she has a glass display with fresh "basic" and "speciality" flavored cupcakes for purchase that way you can taste your cake and fillings before putting in an order. I'm only giving this place 1 star because I have to be able to write a review. They frankly deserve none for both their cakes and their customer service. We ordered my sons 2nd birthday cake from there and it was the worst cake I have ever seen. Not only was it extremely overpriced, but my son and I could have made an even better cake in our kitchen for half the price! I asked for a Monsters Inc. cake with full Sully and Mike displayed all over. He loves the Monsters and that is the entire theme for his party - centering around what we thought would be a beautifully decorated and captivating cake. What we got was a slapped together sheet cake with an edible image (the image we showed them as an idea for what we wanted) slightly painted on and peeling at the sides. If you look at the picture you can see the cut out and how it was pressed on and starting to curl up at the sides. When I called to inform the place how extremely disappointed I was that my sons cake was ruined the OWNER got on the phone and said it was our fault for how we ordered it. When we ordered they asked us if we wanted it edible and of course, not being bakers ourselves, we stated we would like an edible cake with fondant and designs - as have been every cake we've ordered in the past few years. The owner continued to tell me that we ordered it incorrectly and then informed me that she could've done the cake I wanted, but that it cost more - insinuating I couldn't pay?? I mean I shelled out $135 for the below cake - now you tell me. I'm curious, if the cake I really wanted was designed, what it would actually look like. I'm beyond irritated at the situation and am not only embarrassed to serve the cake tomorrow, but to even post the picture! This is the first time I've ever written a review, but because I spent a lot of money on this cake I had to leave my opinion. The establishment: The business appeared cluttered and unorganized. There were boxes and baking pans/molds in plastic bins throughout the entrance where the patrons stand (which is already small, to begin with). I don't have to work there so I didn't care too much about the space, but from a customer's point of view that comes across as unprofessional. The consultation: When I entered the establishment and placed my cake order it did not feel personable for me to have been placing a custom ordered cake. It felt like they were in the middle of doing something and I disrupted them by entering the store and placing an order. I was only asked what flavor, how many people did I want it to feed, and what I wanted to be written on the cake. A few years ago, I placed a cake order with Charles Street bakery in La Plata for an event. When I placed my order with them, they had someone sit me down at a table to provide my vision of what I wanted the cake to be. They asked for pictures if I had any favoring ideas, colors, designs, if I wanted a tiered cake versus a sheet cake, etc. With Simply Cakelicious, I was not even asked what kind of icing I wanted or if I wanted filling. Side note: I ordered a strawberry sheet cake. At Charles Street, I ordered a 2 tiered lemon cake with blueberry purée filling and I came up with the entire cake by bouncing ideas off of the employee I did the consultation with. The down payment: When I placed the cake order I had to do a down payment. Perfectly fine. The cake was $85 and I put down $26.50 ($1.50 for a cupcake that I purchased while I was there). When I returned a week later to complete the payment, a young white female was behind the counter and gave off an attitude. I brushed it off. Once she found my paper that had my order, I asked her to confirm that it was a strawberry cake (which it was) and asked her if she could document that I wanted the icing whipped. Without hesitation she said "WE DON'T DO WHIPPED ICING... WE DON'T RECOMMEND IT ON OUR CAKES". No explanation as to why... which I didn't understand because I've had whipped icing on numerous cakes. Is it a special flour or sugar that they use that conflicts with whipped icing? I was confused. Now if she said something along the lines of (picture it being the summertime) "oh well we don't recommend whipped icing for the cakes because of the temperature this time of the year blah blah blah" then I would have totally understood. Never let your customers walk away confused. I also asked her if she could make sure that the cake was moist. She just said "mhm" and proceeded to take my credit card without writing any note on the form or anything. At that moment I should have canceled the order based on her attitude alone. The cake: I'm going to start by saying that I fought tooth and nail to order this cake. My family wanted to buy a cake from Giant because they did not want to spend over $40 on a cake. With that being said, this cake was dry AS HELL! I was VERY disappointed. The icing was hard. The cake that was leftover was wrapped in foil and when I went to eat it it was hard as a brick. I was EXTREMELY disappointed and my family probably talked about me behind my back about this cake because I saw that majority of the plates in the trash can had maybe one or two bites taken. Conclusion: I will NEVER purchase from this business again. If this bakery was satisfactory I would have used it for a bridal shower in the spring but that obviously will not happen. I should have followed my instincts. read more
