My daughter and her boyfriend were so excited to take me and my son and his wife visiting from out of town to check out this new place they had discovered. There was to be no negotiations!! They assured us this was the coolest place and I read all the raving reviews. !! I have driven by the place so many times myself going down shore Drive I was looking forward to it also.We wanted to sit outside but we were told the flies outside were really quite bad... so we sat inside right in front of the kitchen on a long table admiring the eclectic decor. Two of us ordered coffee and it was at best lukewarm. Not a problem Nicole rectified that right away. It was at least 10 minutes before we got our orders taken. And 45 minutes before we received our food. I have spent 35 years in the restaurant business and never experienced anything like it. But it gave us time to notice the cooks not wearing any masks, the bartender with a mask strapped across his bearded chin instead of his nose and mouth... The waitresses and bus boys with their masks down below their noses... I mean what's the point of even wearing oneSMH!? When the food finally arrived (after I notified the hostess how ridiculous the wait was)... We weren't even given silverware or napkins. We had to get up and go get that ourselves from the hostess stand because we couldn't find our waitress. I'm giving it two stars because the food was good! But the rest of the experience was horrific. When we were done we had to sit for a while and finally ask a hostess if we could get a check... Then we were given the wrong check!!! Someone else's check who had already pre-paid $83 LOL ... Just get me out of here at this point! Yes we still tipped Nicole 20% ... Felt sorry for her working in a place like this! Maybe now she can afford a mask that fits over her nose. I really hate to leave reviews like this for a local independent restaurant especially after reading how people are getting their to go orders in 10 minutes! Nearly an hour wait for sit down customers on a Saturday at noon with no wait and open tables. ‍ was there a manager on duty? Why wouldn't the hostess let that manager know that a customer complained about a 45 minute wait and if they did let them know why didn't the manager stop by!! ?? Like some others who have reviewed here, I hesitated to write this review because then that means other people will know about our brunch spot (which has not yet become overrun with hoards of hungry people). It's one of the few places in town where you can walk in and be seated right away. That's just one of the perks. But really, the best part is the food, of course! One of my favorite things about this place is that they use a ton of local goods and ingredients for their fare and beverages. My favorite local option being the Three Ships coffee - yummo! Great choice! The food is also SUPER delish and is quite obviously made from scratch: cooked perfectly, lots of flavor, and they give you plenty. Finally, my husband and I have been here twice and the service has always been good. The people who work at Simple Eats are very kind. We've always been greeted in short order and never had to wait too long for food or drinks. This is our go-to spot--for now--until the hungry hoards inevitably find this little gem on Shore Drive. :) read more

This is the "large" Local Farmer salad with grilled shrimp which cost me $15. As you can see, the salad was tiny and came with only 3 shrimp (which cost $5 to add on). I called to see if this was the normal amount and was told that in fact it was. My friend who ate with me had the Shrimp Bowl which had a whopping 4 shrimp and required lots of added salt for palatability. We will definitely NOT be eating here again. Total rip off. read more

I never give 5 stars because that means there's no room for improvement, but if I could give 4.99 simples eats, I would. This little diner represents everything that is right with in the local, fresh "farm-to-table" scene. Let's start with ambiance. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. It has a home style feel and the decor gives you the impression of rustic eatery. No 2 tables, chairs, lamps are the same. It's clear that the owners strive to convey that nothing is mass produced, from the delicious food, right down to the chair you sit in. The staff. Incredibly friendly (and easy on the eyes if I do say so myself). I've often wondered where all the cute girls in VB hang out for Sunday brunch, apparently it's at simple eats! That being said. The staff was welcoming from the minute we walked in the door to the minute we said our goodbyes. Our server Kristie made sure that our needs were addressed expeditiously without being over beating or hovering and making us feel rushed. The my food arrived prompt and my beverage was never empty. The food. Oh god the food... I feel like putting how I felt into words wouldn't do it justice. I ordered a breakfast burrito with avocado and a side of sour cream. The portion was the perfect side. The tortilla was grilled to perfection, which is not a term I throw around lightly. The potatoes inside are tricky to get them cooked just right, but simple eats appears to have figured out the secret and they truly hit it out of the park. The ONLY negative I had was the fresh salsa with black beans was served as a side which made it difficult to put on the burrito with each bite. I'll take half the blame for this as I am sure in the future o can just ask for it to be cooked inside of the burrito. It was just an odd default as a side. Then bill. While 22 bucks for a non alcoholic breakfast is a little on the steep side, when you look at the total dining experience and quality of the ingredients in your meal, it's actually pretty reasonable! I'll be the first to admit, I'm NOT a fan of the concept of tipping (but that's a story for another day). After my experience at simple eats, I felt as though I wanted to tip rather than pressured to which truly says something about my Sunday brunch experience! I stuck between a rock and a harder rock because I want to scream from the rooftops how amazing this place is, but on the flip side I don't want to make the line longer when I return, because I absolutely will be returning! This is a fantastic find!! By far the best food, service and atmosphere we found on our visit to Virginia Beach. A lot of unique twist on classics but without taking away from the classic. Everything was incredibly fresh and farm sourced. I am a very critical person when it comes to eating out but my hat off to the chef for preparing each item with the exact balance of flavor and texture. We have been here before and it was excellent. Don't know if that was a lucky night or if this is a bad one. The $29 New York Strip steak was so salty it was hard to eat. The steak itself tasted like it was soaked in gas. To top things off, we had to chase the waitress down to order dessert and pay. When the dessert came to the table, one dessert was 1/3 the size of the others. We had to chase the waitress down again (literally following her from table to table and finally to the waitstaff stand), and she said yeah, the kitchen only had 2 of the dessert and she asked them to stretch it to make three. I had already prepayed $21.00 plus tax and tip for the dessert, but when she dropped it at the table, she did not say a word. EDIT: It got WORSE. My daughter left the restaurant ahead of me, and the waitresses were talking about us, loudly enough for other guests to hear. I want to give the manager the benefit of the doubt, because she did not arrive until most of this had happened. She was extremely polite and professional, and had already prepared a gift card that covered the price of all 3 desserts. But I am wondering at the level of training the waitstaff is provided, because they took an already bad situation and made it worse. They made 2 fourteen year olds uncomfortable by talking about them when they had nothing to do with the situation, and they made the restaurant look terrible to others who were probably already not happy about the poor service. By the way, the entire meal for myself and 2 fourteen year old girls was $111.00 with tax and tip. read more

I have wanted to try this place for a while. We finally found an opportunity last Saturday about 2pm. It was quite noisy and busy but we were a party of 2 and were able to be seated right away. There did seem to be several outdoor tables but it wasn't a nice day so we were happy to have a place inside. The main dining room was very loud but we were seated in the back dining room which was nicer. Cute atmosphere with artwork on the walls that was for sale. We were seated right away and our server Sam was delightful and attentive. I wanted to try the "cinnamon toast crunch" as a drink but it was a shot. Ordered it anyway and it was good. Would have been better with the cinnamon-sugar rim that was listed but instead it was just dry cinnamon on the rim. The food came out in a timely manner considering how busy they were. The feta salad was a but small but tasty. The shrimp on country bread was yummy but also a small plate. The crab and pasta dish had a good amount of crab in it but lacked overall flavor and the pasta seemed overcooked. So it was ok but there are so many great places in the area, I don't think we will be back. read more

It took a little while for our server to get to us after being seated (no big deal) but what really made us shake our head was when someone in my group asked for mustard. Our waiter said he would return and a few minutes later another lady asked us if we needed anything, we said mustard, and shortly after, returned with mustard. About halfway through our meal, our waiter came back with the mustard that was requested when we received our food. Had he not mentioned anything, we wouldn't have thought twice but knowing that my friend would have waited another seven or eight minutes for a condiment? Not good. I'm all for supporting local and seasonal, but if you're not ready to handle a crowd for he holidays, don't open. Multiple tables were waiting on food and drinks. We asked the server to put in a order for us to take home when we were ordering our meal. When our check came, she said it would be another 20 minutes on the take home order. Are you kidding me? Pay close attention, people...this is one for the books! The outside of the restaurant could be a bit brighter, but personally, I think nothing will match the brightness and energy on the inside! I live in New Hampshire and work directly with fermentation of good beer and wine on a daily basis, whether it be homebrewing or at my job, so naturally, whenever I travel, I always gravitate towards new beers. They even had GROWLERS for sale...and fill them!! I have to drive nearly an hour just to find someone that even remotely does that in New Hampshire. The food was no different from its other aspects. Delicious, fresh, and direct from the farm! My family came in for breakfast, and I ordered "The Simple"...and it was probably one of the most delicious eggs and bacon breakfasts I've had in a long time. Hardly any grease, too!! The service? Top-notch. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a vibrant young lady who lead us directly to a table. I didn't get anyone's name, unfortunately, so I can't help there. Our waiter was a young man with a bushy beard, whom was so down-to-earth and refreshingly exemplary of his love for his job. To update my earlier review - Simple Eats has taken some amazing strides and made some awesome changes! Drink menus are available on the table, drinks are served in cute mason jars or real glasses, and the cutlery/plates are now metal. They have also greatly shortened the menu to a reasonable number of items and have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner section. The food was amazing (as before) and the service was friendly, though a tad slow (but there was a larger crowd this time). The crabby patty and breakfast burrito were both so delicious! They now give you some small sides that come automatically with your order if you're looking for just a little bit more. Completely recommend the berry mimosa! read more

We went on a whim after driving by everyday.The place inside is much bigger than it looks on the outside and perfectly decorated. There was something for everyone. One person got the breakfast burrito, I got the roast beef sandwich, and my husband got the tacos (shrimp, rockfish, and chicken) (our favorite was the shrimp) friendly service and reasonably priced food. My food took way too long to come out, and the waitstaff was having to apologize to tables around me as well. The kitchen does not currently run efficiently. My new favorite by FAR! There has not been a wait there except the very first time we went on a Sunday (right after a big church group came in). The décor is PICTURE PERFECT, the food is ON POINT (loveddddd the peach prosciutto flatbread I had this summer, and the egg pie special).
