I went here with a group of friends for a much needed get-together. We had been catching up both virtually and over the phone but it had been a while since we saw each other in person. We were able to use the back room in the cafe that had a large table and provided a cozy setting with lots of natural light coming through the windows and cute macaroon-shaped pillows on the chairs. We had hibiscus tea and peach tea for the table to share. The peach tea was everyone's favorite, it didn't even need any added sugar. It was served in cute pastel teapots, though one of the teapots had a chip at the spout which made me a little nervous. We also had macaroons made in-house for the table. I can't remember if I asked the staff if any of the macaroons were dairy free, but I asked my friends at the table and was told there was dairy in them. I later asked the staff if there was any food they offered that was dairy-free and they showed me their pastry counter but ultimately determined that everything offered had dairy, so all I had while at the café was the tea. The ladies I was with loved the macaroons. I wish I could have had some. I recommend at least 1-2 food options be added in the café for folks who have a dairy allergy. Café Genevieve provides a nice atmosphere for tea with a unique setting -- in a 1734 house that is decked out with Parisian decor. It's not the most private setting -- it got pretty noisy during our time there and there were a few interruptions to our conversation. We should have asked if we could have closed the door, because that definitely would have helped with noise and privacy. Overall, the customer service was great and the tea was really good! If you want to meet here for a private event, conversation, or just want some peace and quiet, that back room with the door closed could provide it. It's a nice café to check out. read more

We had an afternoon tea and it was very quaint. We definitely dressed for the occasion. They came and served us after we made reservations. It would have been nice if they had dressed up too. We felt kind of over dressed. They had paper napkins and tea cups. I was expecting linen napkins. The waitress came back to check on us once. We got a chocolate croissant to go. It was a nice experience for my God daughter. She kept wondering what was upstairs. I told her it's a very old house and might be ghosts up there. Cafe Genevieve is a cute little cafe off Witchduck Rd. The parking lot was pretty packed on this day, but I managed to find a spot. They have a few tables downstairs and some seating outside as well. They sell different pastries, quiches, sandwiches, macarons, coffee, and etc. They also have several flavored teas and lemonades. It's a very laid back chill vibe with a unique feel. The staff were all friendly. I met Chasity and she was very nice. We chatted for a bit. I got butter beer and birthday cake macarons. I also got a croque madam which is a French grilled cheese with ham and a fried egg added, with bauchamel sauce. The sandwich was tasty!! Both macarons were good but the butter beer was my favorite. It tasted slightly like butterscotch. I like this little cafe. If you haven't been, you should definitely check them out! read more

I'm a huge coffee girl. So, when I found this adorable shop right by my daughter's daycare with a Friday off, I'm so in! Parking lot can be tight and it's an awkward location just before a traffic light off Witchduck but, no biggie. Signs posted that they're very strict about parking in the nearby lot so, just don't. They also have free WiFi. Very cute inside with a small amount of tables and a ton of macaroons and baked goods. Fresh, rotating scone flavors and croissants and a ton of seasonal coffee flavors that they make in-house. I chose a marshmallow macaroon for Easter and an iced oat latte. Coffee flavor was SO good. Just what I'm looking for with my lattes (no syrup). Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Great first impression. I'll be back! read more

This cafe is tres cute! There's so many options when it comes to breakfast delights and espresso drinks along with the macaron flavor variety being extensive! Visiting from out of town and tried the fall themed coffee menu - boogeyman because I'm a sucker for pumpkin and of course the pumpkin spice macaron. Their display of foods and sweets is so enticing and the aroma fills the air with buttery croissant goodness. I got the pistachio croissant to which had a yummy filling with a crunchy toasted nut top. The crew worked extra hard to churn out food and drinks while taking order requests. I've been meaning to stop by this cute cafe for a long while now. The outside is small and unassuming and it's door has a small knob for its size. Once I walked in I felt like I was in someone's home from a time long in the past. As a tall woman I had to watch my head in the doorways as I made my way to the register. They have so many drink options and many baked goods to choose from. I ordered my standard vanilla latte with almond milk and waited for my friend to arrive. Once she came in she immediately told me there was another sitting area towards the back of the building. I thought they only had a small dining room in the entryway. I recommend going further in to enjoy more privacy for your visit. She got an almond croissant and I got a strawberry tart.The workers are super bright and upbeat too. It's an atmosphere that is warm and inviting. Just delicious and a wonderful afternoon stop. read more

The turn from the road was kind of hard to see, but luckily I found it. Walking into this place, it's like a little cottage--super cozy! It's moderately spacious but limited seating. The croissant was delicious and freshly made. The coffee had a bold flavoring but was not overwhelming (which I love). My only critique here was the staff. Not necessarily rude, however just seemed a little rushed and low energy. I will cut them a break and say that maybe it was due to me coming in towards closing. Another advertisement from Instagram that made me wanna go. Valentine's Day you can always expect places to be busy with that in mind. I figured this might be the right spot because it's small. I figured not too many people would go there but boy was I wrong because their bakery case was slim pickings the one thing that I look forward to is getting some fresh macaroons and guess what there was none available so I was a little upset, of course because there was none available. They were offering live music and apparently some appetizers. I did not see any of that available. I did see live music. I decided to order a bowl of French onion soup. The French onion soup did have good flavor. If I can critique it I would definitely say they need to sauté the onions a lot longer . The bread and the cheese on the French onion that was baked on the top was hands-down the best part. Would I go back? Of course, I'll go back because I love their macaroons. read more

Decided to pop in on a Friday afternoon, and I honestly fell in love with how charming the place is! The shop is sidled off the side of a busy road, but there is a sign for the cafe that makes them easy to find. They have their own little parking lot which is very nice, but it might get a little cramped in their busier times! Upon walking in, I immediately noticed how tastefully and charming the cafe is decorated- they are situated in one of the oldest houses in the area and they really set up the decor to work nicely with the house. They have a main seating area, back area, and one table outside for now but soon to be more. To get to the back room from the counter, you have to walk by their open kitchen, which I really like as it makes the cafe feel super homey! As for menu items, they seemed to have a decent selection of drinks and pastries. I decided to just have their honey pistachio latte that day, and it was not bad! I personally like my lattes a bit sweeter, so I would recommend asking for extra honey, but I really appreciated that you can see actual bits of pistachio in the drink! They do not skimp out on ingredient quality here. All in all a lovely little cafe to have a meetup or some R&R for yourself, definitely can't wait to come back! read more

Bonjour, mes amis! Cafe Genevieve (CG) has truly grown up! From farmers markets to their first retail location in Selden Market in 2022 (?), they recently opened their second location in Virginia Beach in the Historic Caraway House. It's the oldest structure in Virginia Beach, dating back to 1734. The building had been occupied by another coffee shop previously, but they unfortunately didn't last very long. The team at CG has done an amazing job at renovating and decorating the home, while preserving its charm and have completely transformed the space, combining beautiful colors and old and modern furniture. I had their La vie en rose latte that is made of strawberry and rose syrups and a chocolate crème brûlée that was torched to order. Both the latte and crème brûlée were delightful. Things to note: - they have their own parking lot - they have more menu items (soups, sandwiches, pastries) as compared to Selden Market - FYI, the syrups are made in house by one of the owners - they serve Rich Port coffee, their own customized blend - they have wifi and although there is very limited seating, it's the perfect spot to meet up with a friend or a mini date with your SO. Very cute, quaint little Parisian coffee shop. The staff is very friendly, just a bit of a wait for our drinks with us being the only ones there. But it was well worth the wait. While the croissant was decent, it lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for and was somewhat reminiscent of mass-produced options like those from Costco. In addition, I ordered a pistachio-flavored latte, but unfortunately, the coffee beans used had a burnt taste. Out of curiosity, I asked the cashier whether your ingredients are sourced from France. She let me know that they aren't, and mentioned that the champagne is the only item that is truly French in origin. read more

Why did I wait so long to stop in? And when can I go again! The counter staff was excellent and I regret not being able to remember her name to acknowledge her personally. I can't stop thinking about the phenomenal chocolate croissant I ordered. Warmed to perfection, with layer after buttery layer of croissant. I also had an almond macaron that was amazing. The pastry chef must have trained in France because they were superb. The coffee was great as well. I wasn't aware of additional seating beyond the front area, so I took my order to go. Meh. I was not super impressed. It is a cute old home and intimate. The decor has a sweet feel but that's where my interest peaked. I have never gotten a super "warm" feeling from the staff, and their lattes aren't really flavorful either. The Macarons that I have had on multiple occasions always seem cold - maybe even a little frozen. I know they make them fresh there but I have definitely had better. read more

Completed an online order for local delivery to Virginia Beach address for my sister's birthday. My credit card was charged on the same day I placed the order (10Feb). The macarons were never delivered. I received no communication regarding the order. Tried to call, but the message on the business phone number says to email them. So, I emailed them on 18Feb. No response. Called back a week later and left a message anyway. No response. If the order couldn't be delivered or was delayed, the absolute least a business should do is let me know. Such friendly staff. Told us to have a look around and gave us the scoop on some of the history of the place. So quaint and so nice. Paris inspired theme. Lots of seating throughout. The larger room they use for small groups/tea parties has a beautiful chandelier, an old impressive dining table, and we were told, if we're brave enough, to venture out behind and see the cemetery where the family was buried. Nice large shaded area to sit with lots of tables. The raspberry almond cold latte and lavender lattes were very, very good. Also have a small selection of food to choose from. I visited this establishment on a Sunday around 3:45. I bought three drinks and unfortunately they were all horrible. The coffee tasted old, the matcha tasted like straight milk and the cold brew coffee tasted old and bitter. My daughters and I threw everything in the trash. That was my first time visiting and sadly we will not be returning. The establishment smelled old and moldy. It was weird walking in and having to walk through a very small tight seating area to place an order. One worker was nice but the other wasn't pleasant at all. I didn't feel welcomed and definitely will not be returning. I wasted roughly $20 for stale coffee that left a weird aftertaste. Never again! I wish this coffee shop the best. I sampled the fruit tart and two macarons. Unfortunately the tart was inedible with a floppy soggy crust and the taste of refrigerated lack of freshness pervaded it. The fruit was limp and lacked plumpness. I regretted spending 8.50 in something I ended up throwing away. The macarons were a bit better but served cold which ruins the light melt in your mouth texture a macaron should have. The flavor was serviceable but noticeably artificial and left an aftertaste. We previously tried Cafe Genevieve's macarons from the Seldon Market location and couldn't wait to try some more! The chai latte (hot) with vanilla syrup was the best chai latte I've ever had! My daughter had the chai latte (iced) with lavender syrup and loved it! The chocolate croissant was the perfect combination of flakey and butter just like we had while in Paris!
