I had a slipcover made for my sofa here, after seeing it recommended. The process was smooth (someone came to my home and showed me the fabric swatches and gave me an estimate), the price was reasonable ($1400 including fabric) and the slipcover was well made. However I take two stars off, since 1)the fabric (cotton duck) was a little flimsy and transparent, which was not obvious from the swatch. My sofa is medium gray in color (not dark gray, but not pale gray) and the sofa color showed through the slipcover. 2)I asked, several times, if the fabric was pre-shrunk, and told the person that I intended to wash the slipcover, not dry-clean it. He told me that it was pre-shrunk. Well, a few months later, I washed it (lukewarm water, no dryer), and it shrank by a good six inches on an 84-inch sofa. It was too small to fit back on. I bought more fabric and took it to a tailor to insert a six inch strip, at a cost of a few hours of my time and another $150. I don't think this was pre-shrunk fabric. It might shrink a little, but not THAT much.
However if you got your own fabric, and just relied on them to do the measuring and sewing, this might not be a problem. read more
