Having spent several decades in ambulatory healthcare administration, I was struck by the…read moresignificant breakdowns in intra-office communication at this RadNet imaging center. The problems appeared to involve both my medical circumstances and the appointment process itself. Most concerning was the imaging center's apparent failure to communicate important limitations in their capabilities to the ordering physician in advance of the appointment. The result, in my experience, was nearly two hours of unnecessary waiting, followed ultimately by cancellation of the scheduled scan by the imaging center. RadNet is a publicly traded corporation whose business model centers on owning and operating diagnostic imaging networks across the country. While medicine has historically been viewed as a profession insulated from direct corporate control, the growth of companies like RadNet illustrates how large, investor-backed corporations are now deeply integrated into the delivery of medical care. In my view, this represents a contemporary example of corporations being permitted to function, in substance, as medical practice enterprises, and I believe the implications for patient care warrant serious consideration.

On the day after New Year's, my husband woke up extremely ill, with a 102 fever, nausea and low back pain. Our internist's office had no openings available, thanks to the already-raging flu season, so again we called on Advantage Urgent Care for help. We logged on to the website, input his info, and within 10 minutes got a call telling us to come in immediately. Adding to the stress was the fact that my husband's employer changed their medical insurance with the new year, and we had yet to receive his new insurance card. All we had was some partial info I printed off the insurance company website and I was worried they wouldn't accept it. Fortunately the girl at the front desk assured me it was not a problem. Given that we received an EOB from the insurance company 3 weeks later, I guess it wasn't! :) Back to my hubby's care...less than an hour after we arrived, we were on our way out with a kidney infection diagnosis and prescription for antibiotics in hand. The doctor he saw told him that if he was not considerably better within 48 hours, or got worse before that, he should go to the ER to be checked for kidney stones (yikes!) They also sent his specimen out to be cultured at a lab. Fortunately, 48 hours later he was doing considerably better. What impressed me most, however, is that the doctor from Advantage actually called us three days after he saw my husband, to give him the results of his lab culture (diagnosis confirmed) and to make sure that he was indeed feeling better and did not need further care. We have never, ever had that kind of follow-up from an Urgent Care clinic before, so props to Advantage Urgent Care for going that extra mile, it is appreciated!

I honestly would not recommend this urgent care. I have been going here about once a month because…read moreI keep having recurring UTI symptoms. I would much rather go to a regular doctor, but I work 8-5, and most doctor's offices are closed by the time I get off. I've already used so much of my sick time going to appointments just to be told the same thing and given the same medication. I've been dealing with this for about a year and a half, and I keep getting prescribed the exact same antibiotics even though I've repeatedly explained that they aren't working. At this point, I feel like there should be more investigation into why I keep having these symptoms instead of repeatedly giving me the same medication. The wait times here are also ridiculous. My appointment yesterday was at 6:15 PM after I had already worked a full day. I was sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, and it took nearly two hours total just to get a urine test and my results. For something as simple as a urine test, that wait is incredibly frustrating, especially when you specifically make an appointment. What makes it worse is that I feel like they don't actually listen. I've gone back multiple times explaining that the treatment isn't working, and I still leave with the same prescription. They also take forever to return calls, and it's extremely difficult to get any kind of follow-up. They also mis diagnosed me and told me my BV was treated, when I went to an actual doctors office the next day they said it is positive for BV. And one experience in particular really bothered me. A nurse told me that I shouldn't be having sex because I'm an 18-year-old woman, and a doctor told me that I shouldn't be having sex at 18. That was completely inappropriate and judgmental. I went there for medical care, not to be lectured about my personal life. I understand that urgent care can be busy, but when someone has been coming back repeatedly with the same issue, the least they can do is actually listen, investigate further, and treat the patient like their concerns matter. I'm extremely frustrated with my experiences here and will be looking for somewhere else to go.
