Perfect butcher shop! They work with you to give exactly the right cut of meat requested. They have supported this neighborhood for decades. There's a reason why!! read more

I had been a customer of Simchick for over 20 years. There has been a meaningful decline in customer service, professionalism, and in my opinion, integrity. There are many other butchers in NYC providing an equal or better quality product with professional and honest service. read more

Enjoyed very much their high quality beef steaks, all dry aged! Great service -- they sliced my steak to order. read more

Simchick is our longtime neighborhood go-to butcher. Yes, an actual butcher - not prepackaged mystery meat but hand cut delicious chicken, beef and more. Simple chicken thighs cook up special because their chickens are special. All their homemade soups and prepared foods are low-salt and yummy (looking at you, brisket, Mac and cheese and more). The guys know what they're doing and are so careful with cutting, trimming. A recent fave was a handout, rolled Turkey breast. So juicy and with deep flavor and no waste. Blade steak is an extremely tender cut of chuck that you should try, we get it often. Cooks really fast, tastes amazing and very tender. The store's ambiance is typical of a local butcher - bench, counter, rotisserie, butcher blocks - you know, like from your childhood. This is the kind of store that anchors a neighborhood and we're lucky to have Simchick. You should go! read more

Very arrogant and nasty service. Their quality and freshness has declined greatly and the store no longer looks clean. read more

They are the rudest and least service oriented staff I have ever had the misfortune to encountered. I have always like their chicken soup - big chunks, fresh veggies. The soup I recently bought was out of a can but not as good - Could not find the chicken, canned tiny veggies, loaded with salt. When advised of this (I wanted no money and certainly no soup), the sales person/butcher shouted that it was great!! Typical!\ PS Lived in the neighborhood a long time. First time I have ever written a review re any place. This shows how poor I think their behavior is. I rate them 0 read more

I used to frequent this place often as the meat quality is great, but recently they started passing off their credit card fees on to customers. They are not all transparent about it either. I had a "service charge" added on to my bill at the register which i'm pretty sure is illegal. I'm never going back. read more

I used to love this Butcher place and especially their cold soups. They have become extremely expensive and now if you want to use your credit card it has to be a $20 dollar minimum which is crap because they were never like this. Plus very rude whenever you ask a question and not properly trained to work in this field if you can't be hospitable to people. Disgusted by them, when I have always been a really nice customer. They will lose customers this way. read more

Helpful, knowledgeable, friendly staff. Outstanding product quality. Special cuts available on order.

The place looks nice but I knew something was wrong when I walked in and was ignored for several minutes. The staff here is rude and doesn't seem to care about the success of the business or customer service or common courtesy. Bought the beef stew. Horrible. read more

Horror Butcher shop- if you like being treated rudely, then by all means go! Or getting cheated on weight of purchase , sadly , yes they cheat! Been going there for over thirty years( on and off) Always more expensive, quality is good , Service is deplorable!!! read more

The staff needs to learn some manners. Noel (guy with a reddish beard) was not wearing a mask at all while handling raw meat (as in, completely off his face. It was not even a half-assed attempt to cover his mouth). He proceeded to walk around the store from the front to back, when all other customers and employees were wearing their masks. I asked him to cover his face. His response was incredibly rude, giving me attitude, covering his eyes with his mask and then asking if he was now allowed to use his hands. I used to buy steaks there to support a small business, but that's not happening any more. If he had just put his mask on when I asked, then great, no more complaints. I'm more mad that he gave me an attitude and talked back. During a pandemic?! Seriously?! read more

Good but over priced meats! I was threatened by the guy at the front door. What a horrible place. I dont recommend this place for anyone who cares about their lives. Pieces of garbage they are! read more

Simchick's is possibly the only decent butcher in the neighborhood. And if you go there (maybe a few times), you'll realize it's not just decent; it's excellent. It's pricey, yes, but hence the quality of the meats and the helpfulness of the staff. Also probably because, again, there is no other comparable butchers around here. I love their prepared meals. I paid $12 a pint for some really, really good boeuf bourguignon...the kind where meat is so tender it crumbles and the red wine sauce makes it sort of melt in your mouth. OH AND THEY DELIVER. $20 minimum; awesome option for busy people. read more

Don't buy from this place! if you don't want to be treated like garbage , pay triple the price, and get mediocre food, don't shop in this place. The staff is beyond rude. I went there a few days ago, and I don't remember the last time I was treated so badly by someone. It's as if they go out of their way to treat their customers like poop. Their prices are not normal. They overcharge you for something that you can easlity get for half the price. Finally, the quality is not great either nothing special. I'm not sure how they are still open. read more

Simchick did the same thing to another reviewer. They screwed up our holiday meat delivery, ruined our menu and tried to force us to pay for a meat that was delivered to the wrong address quite shocking and upsetting. It's a big SKIP read more

It's a shame that they are so rude. I am all about supporting local businesses but I will no longer support this place. I have a hard time understanding why they feel they can treat customers the way they do. I'm not sure why people continue to give them business. I certainly won't. read more

The service here is awful. It's extremely concerning to see the guys behind the counter go from handling meat to handling cash and credit cards and then right back to the meat, without so much as washing their hands! My credit card was surely contaminated by ground beef when it was handed back to me, and I don't even want to think about what bacteria they're transferring from cash to the meat. Furthermore, the service is atrocious. Had been coming here for many years, despite the concerns about proper hygiene and hand washing. Today I tried to place a huge order on the phone so I could pick it up and not have to stand around a crowded counter in this time of social distancing. Guy on the phone said just to come on in, there would be no wait. I show up 10 minutes later and there is a line out the door on the street. I tried to leave my order with them so I could come back later.....was told that was impossible since there were people ahead of me in line. Absolutely awful service. I'm done here. And don't even bother trying to contact the owner. I tried to call him to discuss improving their hand washing procedures....I saw he was upstairs from the sidewalk, but he just let the phone keep ringing. Anyone who won't even pick up a phone to help a customer should not be in business. read more

The most horrible customer service ever the workers do not care about the customers at all only themselves! The employees mimic the cold meat in the store and show no appreciation for the people that spend money on the bloated prices! STAY AWAY. Shop anywhere else! Simchick's does not deserve the business especially repeat business. read more

I found this place shady.. If you are not a regular customer, they will never serve you the best products, even if you kindly ask..or point exactly the piece of meat you want in the window counter. I was never given a receipt and prices are made up if you don't pay extra attention. $6 for a very small chicken breast.. I keep giving this place a chance and every time I leave the shop I promise to myself "never again." read more

Terrible service; never again. I purchased from this store before a couple times and service was so so. Food is mediocre. Prices are ridiculously expensive Service HORRIBLE The people working there are awful and disrespectful like they are doing me a favor taking my money and serving me I walked out and never going back again. Please do not support places that are disrespectful to their customers and where employees do not respect customers and work like they are doing customers a favor to serve them. read more

Been a staple in this neighborhood for so many years I can not remember. great cuts of meat, speciality poulty and great prepared food. Staff is great everything is clean and the place is legendary. So happy to have this butcher around the corner from my home. Recomend the rib eye steak, lamb lollipops, and the Tri-Tip steak order that ahead. And for prepared food the Shepard's Pie and the Chicken pot pie are fantastic. Andy - with the long hair and pit bull read more

AWFUL AND RUDE SERVICE I don't know who these people think they are but they have no manners, no respect and no courtesy. I don't know how they hold their jobs and go to sleep at night knowing that they're rude obnoxious and condescending to customers. I'm a personal chef and cook for individuals. I needed 1 pc of ossobucco I called ahead and was told they had it. The guy behind the counter went to look for it in the freezer and could not find it so he told me to come back in a few hrs because he was busy, mind you there was no one else in the store. I am all for supporting the neighborhood but I'm not giving those rude people a cent of my money. Stay safe and away from this place !! read more

They deserve negative zero stars if that is possible... Bought butternut squash soup - tasteless beyond. Went to return and was told "add salt..." with the ingredients included should not need more salt...even added parmigiana cheese...was told " well now that you did that, I cannot take back" So... that means you resell returned food? Very arrogant.... Gross. read more

I know people complain that it's expensive but so is everything. Been shopping here for so long they were still farther down First Ave. what matters is the quality and they've got it. read more

Apparently the owner of this store doesn't really care about doing business. I walk by this shop every day and have gone in from time to time. I would go in much more often if it wasn't for some of the staff (not all). The rudest butcher is a relatively young and definitely not a relative of owner. That's the only thing that would explain why he is employed there The last time I was in there I needed some veal cutlets. I asked him to pound them (scallopine). I wasn't paying attention as I assumed they would be done properly. He was in a bad mood about something and took it out on my cutlets. When I opened them before preparing dinner I was appalled. They were beyond mutilated. My first inclination was to bring them back immediately. I made an attempt to cook them and they were totally inedible. Threw in garbage. This little fiasco cost about $15. I went in to complain the next day and got total attitude My neighbor buys their prepared food which I have had occasion to sample. Horrible Their meats are definitely good quality but not great (not in class of Lobels by a long shot) read more

Simchick's moved to First and 54th St. A measly two blocks, but have to say the new location is infinitely more convenient to me and my lazy little (relatively) feet. It's now near a wine shop. Wine and meat, what more do you need for lunch or dinner? The cuts are always good. The butchers are quick and knowledgeable. The establishment cozy and clean. Some of the best steaks I've gotten EVER... While looking at meat, you'll touch shoulders w/ your neighbors, which is kinda nice. They offer bacon, lamb, veal, beef, chicken, turkey, and some organic meats. They offer side items, such as double stuffed potatoes. It is PRICEY so don't gulp... savor your meat while you chew. read more

Nasty, angry people. Theyve been rude to me every time I go in, so I stopped going. My great grandfather was a German butcher in Brooklyn. I have only pleasant happy associations with going to the butcher. Simchick needs to learn how to treat people with kindness. Especially people on a budget who have to ask for the price. If you're not rich and have questions, they treat you like dirt. It's too bad, because the meats are top quality..but the attitude is horrid. I was shocked at how badly I was treated. And not just once. The last time it happened I was very upset and needless to say I will not be returning. And I see I'm not alone here. Simchick How dare you treat customers so badly!! Something very wrong there. Not to mention the prices are ridiculous. Bad juju. I will never set foot in there again. read more

Simchick is amazing, one of my favorite things in the neighborhood. They have basically any cut of meat that you could want, plus amazing prepared foods (side dishes, soups, ready to cook entrees, you name it). In addition to stocking basically everything, Simchick also has really great prices, and often has specials on different Prime cuts of meat. Prices are literally sometimes 1/4 of the price at butchers like Lobel's, and the quality is just as high. On top of the low price, they always do a careful job of trimming any unwanted fat from the meat before they weigh and price it, adding even more to the value. The guys there are always more than happy to provide cooking tips and instructions (including some tips that I had never thought of but use all the time now when cooking steak!). read more

I really wanted to like this place. Came in looking to buy chuck roast for a "poor man's burnt ends". Told the butcher I wanted chuck roast, he recommended cook times in the oven until I told him I was going to smoke it. We talk a bit as he trims all the silver skin and fat away. Everything is going great, 4.1 pounds. Then he hits me with the 49 dollar charge. $12/lb for a chuck? That's double their brisket price. This poor mans burnt ends ended up being rich mans burnt ends. Crazy expensive. Will not be going back read more

They dropped our delivery and refused to give us a refund. I've been going there for nearly 20 years - I try to help small businesses and this is a sad way to end - I even returned the delivery to show them and the staff in the shop were unsympathetic suggesting that I somehow did this. I guess the staff at Simchick don't value their customers as I would if I owned their business. read more

i have shopped here many times but their dealings with customers has become more and more dismissive and rude, while their prices are going higher and higher. A small rib eye steak was $40 and 2 patties of eggplant parm was $23! Could have gone to Capital Grille and been served a nice meal. Not worth it! Rude and ridiculously expensive. Not the right combination. read more

I have been purchasing meat here for years. I have put up with their atrocious customer service - but not anymore! They have absolutely no respect. They are SO rude. When the world is going through so much, it costs nothing to be kind. Instead, it seems they have no gratitude towards their return customers and they couldn't care less if they lose our business. Good riddance! read more

I went in to buy ground turkey in late July. The guy took the order with his mask under his chin, and went in the back to get it. Another guy came out with a tray of chicken breasts, no mask, and no gloves, and started placing them in the glass case. And I left, after telling him why. I felt badly that the other guy was grinding the meat for me and I wasn't going to buy it, but gloves have always been basic, long before CoVid. read more

After buying 100 dollars of meat etc the order was placed in a bag that became rather heavy We requested a second bag as we were walking home. Our server (tall and wears a red hat) told us that the extra bag would cost one dollar! We often shop twice a week and are used to indifferent service other than from Tito who is most helpful. We now question returning if this attitude is indeed the culture of this shop. The other negative reviews suggest that it is. I read more

This is the best butcher or meat shop we have found in New York. We have visited several times and the quality and service is the best. Visited today and my above description is not valid anymore. Rude and totally unacceptable attitude from one of the staff. We left as they showed total inflexibility in trimming the filet mignon we were to buy. Annoying and bad indeed as they are very expensive. read more

I think this place is living on its reputation. Prices are obscene yet the staff is generally surly. We have gotten steaks just as good at markets in the area for around half the price so I don't see the draw. read more

Thank goodness for Simchick. I say this because they have saved me many many times. This local butcher delivers, lets you create an account, and reads your mind. The meat here is fantastic quality and extremely fresh. the expert butchers cut the meat to your specifications right next to you... not behind the counter, next to you. If you have to cook dinner quickly, their pre-marinated and seasoned meats are a fantastic option, and their side dishes are very good too. if you have any questions about preparation, the butchers are experts in that area too, and they will answer any questions you have. they will even teach you to make something you've never made before. it took me too long to realize this, but the butcher is a cheaper place to buy meat than the grocery store, and the difference in quality and raising is obviously light years. read more

Had a good opinion before, but sold me ground steak for Steak Tartare which was not suitable and made us sick during the night. It might have been a good cut for cooking but not for raw eating (tartare). Even worse is that they never answered our emails when we complained about it. Oddly, when we wrote to ask about prices they answered right away.... read more

Great old school butcher shop. They do a hot Italian sausage here that is out of this world - when done on a smoker it is one of the richest meats you will ever taste. I have also had them do custom cuts including pork butt and they were more than happy to oblige. I called a few days in advance, gave them my name, my order and when I would be in and they said no problem. I was impressed they didnt want payment of any kind ahead of time knowing that I was placing a sizable order. They will also custom trim any of the cuts you order from them. Great shop. read more
