I've always liked Simard's because I like their roast beef. Unfortunately, the last three times I went there and got a King Beef, the onion role was stale. Not completely inedible stale but clearly at least one-day-old bread. They shouldn't be passing this off to people but throwing it away. They know it's stale. They just don't care. It degrades the sandwich. There are other options so I won't be going back. If you're in the area, try Rizzo's, 5 minutes away on Church Street in Wilmington. Their roast beef is always outstanding and the bread is never, ever stale. Wilmington House of Pizza is good, too. Plus, frankly, their service is really slow. This is a place that has the words "roast beef" in their name and so you would think it would be quick. I swear they're going out back and slaughtering the cows. Completely awful. I used to like this place years ago for a nice roast beef three-way in an upcoming here tonight got a junior beef. Three-way waited more than I should've. I got the beef and it was completely cold in the middle of it warm on the outside. I've been coming to Simards for years. The food is phenomenal and the service has always been great. I live all the way in Worcester and continue to drive the hour drive there and back just to get their roast beef. But after this, I will never go back there again. We ordered our food pay with a card, and we are charged a fee for using the card(which is fine). My wife decided not to leave a tip as she didn't have much in the account. We leave we enjoy the food, and two days later get a text message alert, saying the balance was updated to included two dollar tip. I call the restaurant to speak to the manager. He doesn't want to listen to me, and just said that the cashier has been working there for four years without incident so it must've just been a mistake. Wilmington is a fairly rich town and I'm sure people aren't checking their account balances for a dollar or two to go missing. I feel like they wouldn't notice. So when I reach out with this information and get a slap in the face from the manager of pretty much being told that this wasn't a theft by his employee when it actually was. I will never go there again, and I will badmouth this restaurant to anybody who will hear me. That was a horrible way to handle the situation. my wife is fully irate and to completely disregard our concern is unbelievable and the shittiest customer service I've ever gotten from a manager at that. read more

Having been a local of the surrounding area since childhood, Simard's was always a top-pick when it came to small local businesses. Whether you're old or young, rich or poor, Simard's always gives you bang for your buck at a reasonable price. As both an Uber partner and a frequent customer, I know the menu and business well. In either role the staff are always nice and accommodating to your needs. Being one of the more popular small restaurants in the area, do expect a line later in the day and late at night. The amount of business they get at night in their drive-thru is akin to how busy the McDonald's drive-thru is on summer nights when everyone wants ice cream- wait times can get longer than usual. The staff keeps a constant pace though and even when the line of cars extends out to the street, you will usually never be waiting more than 15-30 minutes. I hold this business in high regard but why only 4/5 stars you may ask? At times when it is busy, they may get your order wrong or mess up on one or two details. When you are as busy as they are though, I could never hold that against them. Even if you don't get exactly what you want down to a T, don't be too sad because either way the food is great. I would highly recommend their chicken fingers and potato skins. The taste of the potato skins with cheese and bacon is unparalleled and is always my #1 choice off the menu and for potato skins in general. read more

I didn't want to pay attention to the negative Google reviews when we found Simard's on Google Maps, while riding home at 2am. Sadly, those reviews are spot on. The sandwiches, 2 "super" beefs, barely had any meat and what little there was was cold. It was odd to bite into a roast beef sandwich and just get bun and sauce. The fries were pretty bad too. I feel bad writing this but it *was* pretty bad. The young woman at the window was a sweetheart. I would totally hire her. Any stars go to her. I'm not a local, but Simard's is one of my wife's personal "must stop" places when she visits her home town. Having lived near Boston for several years, I appreciate that while you can name a number of New England delicacies, the secret of the locals is that the roast beef is the go-to sandwich is king. In Philadelphia, I lead people away from the cheesesteak and to a roast pork (w/ sharp provolone, natch) and in Massachusetts, you can skip the chowder or even the lobster roll and go right for a Super Beef. Pros: I have no idea what else is good on the menu except this. We order 2 Roast Beef sandwiches and spicy fries (w/ cheese) every time. I'm never disappointed. Freshly sliced, melts in your mouth and a nice soft onion roll are truly bliss. I love it. My go-to is a regular beef (about the circumference of a big mac) with lettuce, onions, horseradish and mayo - it's got the right spiciness to still melt but have a kick. I love it. My wife skips the horseradish and enjoys her's as well. We also get the spicy fries and cheese which are about exactly as you'd imagine. Eat those fries hot because they're pretty unspecial cold. Prices are fair. I ordered the Super Beef once (about the size of a whopper) and even in my hayday of eating a shit ton, it's a bit too much. You can probably stop it at regular beef if you're hungry. Hours are extreme for late night. Service is friendly though. Cons: Service is slow for drive through. Lol if you order delivery. They cook and slice to order, so it is what it is. The fries, once not hot, are a mess. Just a potato-ey, kinda gross, mess. Eat 'em quick! This place looks pretty dingy and old. But honestly, we've always enjoyed it and never saw anything gross happen. Conclusion: We can and will be back. Ordered from Uber Eats for me and my sons on a Saturday (Saturday is for the boys!!). It took about an hour, not bad for a Saturday at 10:00pm. Roast Beef was ok, rolls never taste fresh there, don't know why that is! First time customer. Bring cash instead of using their Apple Pay! I am a huge fan of tiny family-owned businesses, and I've had my eye on this place for a while. I had asked for a "girl-sized" roast beast with all the burger fixin's, including cheese. It arrived with more meat than I wanted, so my dog was very happy scarfing down the extras. Should I have ordered a baby size instead? The bun wasn't quite toasty, so it turned sloppy and hard to hold. My dog, of course, offered to hold it for me. I was annoyed that it was missing both the cheese i was talked into ordering and the ketchup, which I'd always thought was mandatory on burgers! Although I was annoyed, I can improvise, so I went to the Market Basket across the street for ketchup. The worse part was trying to pay. I had called ahead to ask about Apple pay, and they had given me the thumbs up. Yay! But it turns out their machine is nowhere near the customer, so how am I supposed to use fingerprint recognition? My eyebrows flew up as the cashier took my phone away and waved it upside down over the POS device and said my card was declined. Then two more employees joined the fray, gaslighting me about my Apple pay not being set up correctly. I'm like WTF, and let loose more F bombs than were appropriate. I mean, there was a poor little new born listening to my trashy mouth, but I was super pissed off, because I have used Apple pay for years. They gave me the food gratis, and encouraged me to come back. But now I'm scared they will spit in my food. I have since learned about Apple Pay photo recognition, but it's not mandatory, and I don't want to use it. I have lived in Wilmington for over 20 years. This place used to be so good. They haven't had a large soda in well over a year. One of the popular items on the menu was the waffle fries with cheese sauce. They changed other waffle fries that are no where near as good as the ones they had forever and the cheese sauce is inconsistent. Last time I went there for just me it was $24. Several years ago I could by for my 3 of us and it was less than that. The only thing they have going for them is a drive through. The employees are not super friendly. I just went to Simard's for lunch, I got a Super Beef Special that came with small fries, which were huge (and a side of nacho cheese on the suggestion of the kid behind the counter), and a small fountain soda. Considering the price of a Super beef on its own, and the price of a fries and coke it was a pretty good value @ $9.95. I have to say they were pretty damn quick about getting the orders out, there were people waiting inside and there was a line of cars in the drive-thru, which I must say for a roast beef joint is pretty damn convenient. The small fries that came with it were Waffle cut seasoned fries, actually not sure if there was an up charge for that, but they were damn good. Also, glad I listened to the kid behind the counter on the Nacho Cheese, it was a nice compliment; after all, cheese makes everything better. I got back to the office and had lunch, I was a little bit disappointed in the amount of beef in the sandwich; after all, it was a Super Beef. I personally prefer the Roast Beast to be a little bit more on the rare side than the somewhat cooked throughout. The combination of the BBQ sauce and horseradish was pretty flavorful, and was a good sandwich. Some reviewers that grew up on Kelly's said this place runs circles around it, and I might agree growing up on Harrison's in N. Andover, and myself not being impressed with Kelly's.
