I usually just ask her to do what she thinks will work best and it looks great after. To top it off, she is funny and has a big heart. I'll start by saying that Joanna obviously knows what she is doing and gives an excellent cut,…read moretechnically speaking. My work and schedule have changed and that meant that I needed to find a new stylist. I looked up reviews (she gets rave reviews) and then called and asked specifically if she worked well with curly hair (she said she was comfortable with curly hair) and let her know that my plan was to go from long, curly hair, to a long, curly pixie (short cut). Set the appointment. Got really excited! Arrived 20+ minutes early to have time to get a feel for things and make sure we had time to discuss the cut/plan. I barely had a consultation. Was in and out in less than an hour - super quick for such a major transformation. Ordered some curly cream to pick up the next day, and expressed some concerns about the sides still being really thick. Joanna said she would be available to fix any bits that bothered me. (Totally reasonable for there to be some things to adjust after playing with it - it was a big change.) When I called the next day to make sure I could pick up the curl cream and let her know I needed some adjustments with the bottom layer, she didn't have the curl cream (miscommunication between us) and didn't have an opening to fix my hair for a week. That felt like a long time to walk around frustrated and self-conscious about a transformation cut... but, I took it and worked with the cut. (Which now took more time to style than long, curly hair.) Then, on the morning of the fix appointment, Joanna texted early to say she needed to cancel and offered to reschedule... a week later. I offered to come any time during that day. But, she was double-booked all day. (I was going to be out of town - part of the reason I had really wanted to get it finished and be happy with it, since the events I would be going to were very picture-heavy.) I was so frustrated with her lack of commitment to me, as a customer, and with feeling like I couldn't trust her to take my experience seriously. I didn't take the next appointment offered. (It would have been 2 weeks since the original cut.) And eventually decided to find someone else to "fix" it. Joanna is super nice. I think she is likely very loyal to her longterm clients. Based on my experience, though, if you have curly hair or are looking for a very new "do", I can't suggest her. I never felt like my experience or my hair were her priority. What was a very exciting thing for me turned into something I had to have "fixed" by someone else. (Now, it's too short ... but it's not a blob on the side of my head, so that's cool.) I've paid for two haircuts. (Joanna's was the most expensive cut only + tip I've ever had). And I was too self-conscious to happily pose for pics on a really important day for our family. I really, really hate to leave a non-positive review for anybody. We all have bad days. But, this needed to be handled better and I don't want anyone else to go through it. Hair is a big deal. We need to trust the person messing with it.

If you told Darwin in the 1800's that man would one day infuse haircuts and sports, he would have abandoned all of his cockamamie evolutionary theories and invested in a Sports Cuts franchise to compliment his robust crypto portfolio. The Sports Clips motto is "It's good to be a guy", a rare bit of positive affirmation my gender desperately craves. The premise of the business is centered around guy stuff. And guys LOVE SPORTS. We can't handle any daily task without sports. I haven't been to the dentist in 25 years because those quacks refuse to play sports while they do whatever they do at those places. And this open wound on my leg just keeps getting more and more infected because the local hospital doesn't have ESPN. But where was I going with this? Ah yes, Sports Clips. It's good to be a guy. My only complaint is that when they covered my face with a warm towel during the shampoo process I couldn't see sports. There was nothing but darkness. I was so frightened and confused. Was sports gone forever? Was there never sports? What will I do with all this rage inside me now that sports are gone? Then she took the towel off and I could see sports again. What a relief. If next time the barber could whisper sports in my ear whenever my face holes are covered, that would be really helpful.

But after an hour wait for Tiffany, my ticket was picked up by a cutter named Quilla. Quilla did not introduce herself, had no cards or license on display, and went ahead and gave me the top-of-the-line package with add-one without asking or explaining anything, turning a $32 service into a $40 service. Her explanation: "oops", and that she always gives that same package. The automated wait system should be a great value add, but the wait time shown in the app blossomed from 45 minutes, to 90 minutes, then dropped back to the original time, and then back up... only to be filled as a "next available" customer with no explanation. A low-quality operation. I do not recommend it.

She is very conscientious, and spend more time trying to get the correct colors than any stylist I have been to before! My hair looks amazing, and I have no hesitation in highly recommending Prima Classe and Sandy. I originally found Prima Classe a few months ago when I was exploring Apex, as I live in Durham. I had come to Apex for my dog's grooming and had some time to kill. How lucky that was. I met Joseph that day, and he was very impressive. He immediately pointed out how my coloring could be improved upon. So, the other day when I had an appointment in the area for my dog I decided to make one for myself as well. This is a great place.

She's been around Raleigh a long time, so she knows what's going on and is just a cool person. As a hairdresser, she knows what to do with my hair. I have wavy/curly fine yet very thick hair. It's a dark ash blonde naturally, and in the past year, I'm starting to get more grey. She is great with curls. In fact, I probably have 10-15 friends with curly hair who also go to Claire because of her reputation for knowing what to do with curly hair. I have her cut it so I don't have to do much to it afterwards. Claire also knows how to color my hair. She's very flexible about what I need. If I tell her I'm broke, so it needs to last a while, she does more fine subtle highlights. If I'm able to come in more regularly, she can really make it pop (if that's what I want). I've learned that she is more conservative with how she cuts. So she'll never go in and assume you want any more cut than you've said. In fact, I've had to say, "Go ahead! Be more drastic!" Honestly, this is such a better a problem than the opposite, and I really appreciate that. Too much cut when that's not what you want can be a scary thing. That will never happen with Claire. The studio is on a quiet little bend in a street in Boylan Heights. It's a very relaxing place to sit and chat while you have your hair done. I imagine I'll be going to see Claire at Boylan Heights as long as it's possible. BTW, I know some non-curly folks who go to Claire, too. She can do that, but curls are her specialty.
