At 72, I just received the worst haircut of my life from Jamal! My hair sticks out on one side and doesn't blend at all. Avoid this idiot!

Been here a few times now. They dealt with a bird's nest tangle in my daughters hair and always give my son a nice cut. They also offer hot tea and a sweet as a nice treat. Highly recommend. read more

I'm from out of town. Called and made an appointment to get a haircut for an important dinner party. He did an absolute awesome job on my hair at half the price that I usually pay. And was given a wonderful honey tea and some kind of pastry when I was done. 10 out of 10 thank you very much too bad. I don't live here. read more

A1 Salon - Men's Hair Salons Near Me - Cary, North Carolina

Jamal is the best I have been to in Raleigh/cary area. He knows how to make you look your best!

Jamal is a master coiffeur and even that is an understatement to describe his talent and skill. I saw a friend who recently had her hair done by him and was blown away by the meticulous haircut that I just had to go see him! I had an appointment for noon, and we started right on time. By 1245 I was out the door and on my way home- mind-blown! He offered me tea, and then we got on with a hair wash, haircut and blowout (the best I've ever had). I have THICK easily tangled hair and not once did I feel a tug at my scalp. He is so gentle but effective. I left feeling confident about my hair and excited that I have finally found someone I can trust with my hair. If you're thinking about it, don't. Just go and do it. read more

What a great hair styling I received today. The salon is warm and welcoming and Jamel, just plain super along with the staff. Recommend this salon highly read more

Nobody else will ever touch my hair again. If I go to college in Virginia, I will come down here for cuts. Absolutely worth the $35. Fellas, you are worth the $35. It's not worth it to save $10 and get your hair butchered at Great Clips like I used to do. I don't give out 5 star reviews. If I like a place a lot, I give it 4 stars. Jamal deserves 5 stars. I am so happy with my haircut. Never going anywhere else again. He is an artist. He fits it to your head. Every time I see myself in the mirror now, my mood improves and I remark to myself how good I look. Again, you are worth it. Get a nice haircut. This is your hair and how you will look for months we are talking about. read more

Love Jamal. He's not only good at his job but very hospitable. We just moved here. He did both my daughter & myself. Both of us loved our hair, tea, & biscuits. read more

Jamal is a very talented stylist who makes going to the salon a pleasure; the atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, and Jamal really takes his time with your hair and has you leaving the salon at the end looking like the best version of yourself! Have never had a bad cut here and I always look forward to the appointments. Five stars! read more

Jamal is so talented! He does our entire family. The men aren't so picky but their haircuts are always fantastic. The women, well, we're very picky :) And Jamal has never let us down. In fact, after my first haircut when I came home my sons told me mom, that's the best haircut we've ever seen on you. I have seen Master Stylists all over the Triangle - this is high praise, especially from my boys (who rarely even notice ^_^ I HIGHLY recommend him. read more

Normally I wait a week after a cut and style to post a review. But after 6 years in Cary and trying almost 15 different salons, I've found THE ONE! Jamal is an artist, who made my fine, thinning and frizzy hair look glam. His blow dry enhanced my god - given assets rather than draw attention to the devil - endowed liabilities....( something the other stylists were experts at doing!). I'm talking about face shape etc. I love that he doesn't try to chat when he's working on my hair.... that way I know his attention is on his work 100%... We had a good chat afterwards ! Overall, it is very refreshing to go to someone who is obviously more experienced. Not a glamorous place, but def a glam cut.A A read more

I moved to NC later last year and have tried 2 hair stylist, didn't like them until we moved again, I found a1 salon on Google due to location change, it has great reviews so I tried it out. I'm NOT disappointed, Jamal, the owner, did an excellent job. He gave me exactly what I want. It's not easy to give me a good style because of my thin hair. But Jamal did it. The salon is neat and clean, Jamal is fast and really good. The best part of him is he doesn't want to sell you products that he doesn't think right for your hair. I asked him about any product to add up volumes, he said no, dont want to harm my hair roots. Although Jamal is fast and for some people might be " not-so- fancy" service. But you get exactly what you want. Very straightforward and fast. I definitely will come back again because I think I finally found the hair stylist I like. Jamal, thank you for giving me a great new look. And if you are an Asian or with thin fine hair, tired of hair salon screw up your hair because the stylist is not familiar with Asian hair, give Jamal a try, you will not disappoint. read more

I used this salon for long time and after I tried many different salons I decided that: A1 salon-ONE IS THE BEST!!! The Men in Salon big professional and he do anything you want. Even if you show him picture, he will make look like in picture. He is great!!!!! VERY RECOMMENDED Salon 1!!!!! read more

This place is awesome! I had a great haircut the first three or four times so I referred some friends and family as well they all have had positive feedback. Great pricing as well the owner definitely has a passion for his business. read more

He is very polite and perfectionist! Super happy with the hair cut..with a very reasonable price 40$. And he was very quick.

**OVERCHARGED & BAD WORK** I hate to have to write this review. Please read the whole thing... and be warned. I brought in a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like: a simple cut and color. Halfway through the color process, I asked him to refer back to the picture, as he was not doing what I asked. He said "there must have been some miscommunication," and left me under the heaters covered in foil. When he came back, I asked him if he would fix it, as he very clearly did not do what I asked - he refused, and said that for that he would "have to charge more, of course." Let me mention here and I am fully pregnant and had already been sitting there for three hours while he took other customers and left my hair in bleach. The end result: this man took $260 of my hard earned money (though he asked for more and I refused - said it was due to my "sitting with the bleach longer to get the blonde"), and absolutely ruined my hair. It's dry, frizzy, a bad cut, and 100% not what I asked of him. By the time I left the salon, it was 5 HOURS. I was so tired (remember, I'm preggo)... I just went home. I called him later and asked that he fix it, explained that I was very unhappy having had to pay for something that I did not ask for and asked him to please do the right thing and fix it - to stand by his work. He neither called me back nor acknowledged my complaint. I'm so bummed. This guy just totally took advantage. I wish I had read all of the reviews here, if you scroll down, this is not an isolated incident. A-1 Salon: STAY AWAY!!! read more

I asked a trim and layer hair cut. Jamal spent 15 minutes in total, including 2 phone calls. The is no noticeable change to my hair in the end and it cost me $40. And I felt rushed in the whole process. I would not recommend him if you just want a haircut and a decent service. Very disappointed! read more

As anyone knows, finding the perfect stylist when you move to a new area is a frightening experience! I searched online reviews and asked people I met with great cuts but still couldn't commit. I was given a recommendation to go see Jamal at A1 Salon and I cannot say enough about how amazing he is!!! I went in and told him I wanted a shorter cut and he did his magic, literally!!! He knew exactly what I wanted without me offering any suggestions, other than a short cut. Jamal gave me the best haircut, it feels so healthy and I absolutely love it!! The price was amazing for the this perfect haircut and exceptional hospitality. Considering some salons in the same area were triple his prices! His associate Julian made me the best cup of hot tea I've ever had!!! Please stop by and check Jamal out at A1 Salon, I promise you will not be disappointed!! read more

I had the same experience another reviewer had. I had a cut, color, & highlights, was charged over $200, and although looked ok, it was not what I asked for. He cut off more than twice of what I stated, didn't do the color I asked & the highlights were few. Also, as another reviewer stated he kept walking away to answer the phone & attend to someone else. I feel that my hair could have turned out better 1) not only if he had done what I asked but 2) didn't have to attend to so many other things during my appointment. If I'm going to pay over $200 + tip then my hair better be exactly like I ask & look great. Won't be going back to this place. read more

Always a great experience with Jamal. He's a great barber as well. I go there to get a hair cut and my beard trimmed. He uses the straight razor blade. I've been going here for 3 years now and he has never cut me with the blade. It seems also that he does extremely well on women cuts too. I can only talk about the men's cuts. Plus the tea and coffee and sweet treats are a bonus. read more

Terrible experience. Grossly overpriced, rushed, and he did not listen to me. I will NEVER go back.

After being disappointed with different salons in the Cary area, I finally found one that is superb, A-1 Salon! Jamal is a natural at cutting hair, he checked out my hair and face and knew exactly what kind of haircut I should have and he was so right! I was a happy camper when he got done and he now has a client for life:) read more

My mother-in-law and I had a girls date and got our hair done a A1 salon. I think it was the best experience we've had. Jamal was amazing, and gave us the best color and cut! My mother's color is beautiful and my highlights are perfection. Our cuts are flawless. The hair wash was amazing - really, really good head massage! We simply could not be happier! Jamal is a perfectionist and truly an artist in his trade. read more

I had a GREAT experience here. I called late on a Monday night, after having a hair catastrophe at a Mitchell's salon earlier in the day. They close at 8 and Jamal took me at 7:20 for a color and highlight correction. I wanted a darker brown with a few blonde highlights on top, at the first place I got platinum blonde ALL OVER the top of my head and some light brown underneath....thank goodness Jamal was able to save the day. The final product was AMAZING! I got exactly what I wanted, and I am so thankful that he was able to correct the disaster on my head. I will most certainly be a returning costumer for all my future hair needs!! read more

When I moved down here I was asking people where they got their hair cut so I would know where NOT to go. Bad, right? I didn't think that I could find anyone who wouldn't "get lost" in my thick, wavy hair and make a mess of it. After tons of research and studying online portfolios, I found Jamal. Precise cut and best blow out EVER! Jamal is the best. Period. Trust him. I am happy. My hair is gorgeous. If yours isn't, call Jamal. Side note: Jamal styles my son's hair as well. It's a delicate balance with the boys; they can end up with buzz cuts or shaggy mops if you go to the wrong place. My son's hair is beautifully styled by Jamal. Refined. Thank you, Jamal! :) read more

Jamal is truly amazing!!! I have not ever been treated so professionally and expertly. He is truly a master with my hair and attending to every detail!! I will never go anywhere else! read more

This place is very pricey. I had an apt at 10am which is when they were scheduled to open. The door was locked and I sat in my car for about 5 minutes. Once I was able to walk in, I sat there for another 10 min before I was asked to take a seat. While in my seat waiting, Jamal checked the main voicemail from the office, and other minor things that could have waited.. or that the lady in the back room could have checked once she finished making HIS cup of coffee. I went in requesting a trim. Jamal cut off more than what I asked for. I stated I was a bit worried it was going to be shorter than I had planned and he said he knew what he was doing or he wouldn't have an accomplished business. Basically, telling me to shut up. Let me add, I rarely say anything and just deal with it, but I finally decided to speak up because he kept chopping and chopping.. and chopping! I never asked the price, but assumed for a trim... maybe around 40 or so at the most. I walked out paying 70!!! I was shocked. What a rip off. Worst hair salon experience ever. read more

Jamal does excellent work, he is very skilled and polite and sees to the customers needs. Jamal is very professional and will even make you Turkish coffee with your service. I highly recommend this place. read more

Worst hair salon ever! I went to get a hair cut and highlights. The highlights came out horrible. Looks like a reddish orange color vs a light brown one. On top of not getting the color I wanted I paid over $150. It would have been more if I wanted the back of my hair dried. Definitely NOT going back and now I need to find a new salon to fix his mess. And a lot of men go to this salon. Seems like he might know how to cut for men vs. women. read more

I went to A1 based upon the majority of accolades of happy customers. I am not one of them. I am not hard to please, but he is like Edward Scissorhands and is swift and usually has wonderful results. I ended up with a too short cut which is NOT what i asked for. it was a nice cut, though, and it will grow out eventually, but this is not the look i wanted for my daughter's wedding next week!!!. I had cut, color and highlights and it was $205!!!!! It was ridiculous and for that I can go to a spa and have someone take their time and provide me with a cut that i request. I won't go back, he is out of my price range. btw $65 for the haircut alone, $95 for highlights and $45 for color. read more

I'm not a religious person but I'm inclined to believe that Jamal was delivered to us by angels. My mother had been in the hospital for over a month and immobile for much of that time. Her very fine, wispy hair got tangled and knotted into what looked like a dreadlock next to her scalp. Everyone we talked to said the only solution was to shave the back of her head. She was heartbroken. Luckily a receptionist at one hair salon I called suggested we go see Jamal. We made an appointment at 3:30 and for the next 2 hours he very carefully went to work untangling the awful mess of knots while preserving as much hair as possible. He then gave her a new style that made her hair look better than it has in decades, maybe ever. He really should have his own salon in New York or Paris but I'm so happy this miracle worker is here in North Carolina. read more

Very expensive place should be rated $$$. I got my haircut done here. Haircut was ok not so very special, i felt deceived the hairstylist started behaving. Very unprofessional and charged me $80 plus I gave $10 as tip for a simple hair cut. He used rollers without even asking me. I would say they started robbing you slowly once tour are stuck in the chair wihout even taking your consent. read more

My brother started getting his hair cut by a professional a few years ago and this wound up being the place he chose after a few other tries. He loved it so much I decided I would get my hair cut while I was visiting and couldn't be happier. I've never had a place serve me tea while waiting which was delicious. The haircut itself was great, I gave the details of what I wanted and Jamal did the rest. Definitely coming back here whenever I'm in town read more

One of the best haircuts I've had. I recommend it to everyone. Jamal really took the time to listen to what I wanted and did an excellent job. I was able to enjoy a great cup of Turkish coffee also. I will go back soon! read more

I absolutely loved Jamal. Coming from NY I've had a tough time finding a good hair stylist and I have to say I finally found the right guy. Not to mention how kind they were and listen to what you want. He is a keeper for sure!!!! read more

Jamal is a great colorist! The first time I came in he took a few minutes looking at my roots then matched the color perfectly instead of having to do more damaging all over color. On another instance, I wanted to go a little darker as the sun had lightened my hair. He recommended low lights to make it blend better which I loved! He also will give you a great haircut. If you want something specific, just tell him. It is not the least expensive place nor the most expensive place in the area. He does a quality job and is very hospitable with offers of hot tea and a homemade pastry. read more
