I love this place. I was looking for a place to have a pendant made for my girlfriend. I brought in this huge stone, uncut and unlike any other stone they've ever worked with (this all according to the jewelry maker and engraver Eric). I tried my best to describe to him what I wanted, what look I was going for and he provided good feedback. We talked about trends, looks, what the piece will look like in 20 years, basically covered all creative bases. I shopped their in-house made pieces and I was impressed so I left the work in his hands. He told me what he was going to do and let me know what challenges would arrive. When it turned out that the piece was causing the metal to do weird things which might affect the look I was going for he called me. I called several other stores who refused to even give me a ballpark quote over the phone for the resizing - I had to come into the store to receive a quote. Amazing shop with beautiful work. I had my engagement ring custom made here, and they were super accommodating with our tight budget while making a beautiful ring. A year later, my fiancé and I decided to modify my engagement ring and add two trillion cut diamonds on either side of the sapphire and reset the ring in gold. We met with Herschel a few times and he was incredibly helpful during the redesigning process. When we came by to pick up my finished ring, I was completely blown away. My fiancé and I went into Silverlust looking to have a custom engagement ring made which would incorporate stones and items from an old family ring of mine. After problems with other jewelers saying it wasn't possible, Herschel sketched something on paper right away that was exactly what she was looking for just from what she described. The finished ring was beautiful. 10 months later we went in to figure out what we wanted to do for wedding bands. With the nature of the engagement ring being custom and somewhat oddly shaped, we were skeptical about coming up with any kind of band that would look and feel right with her ring without taking away from its beauty. Well, we should have known better after our first experience, because within seconds Herschel was describing and drawing something up on paper for a band based on what she described. Silverlust was super fast getting a wax made for us to look at, and her to try on, and she absolutely loved it. I went in and picked up the final product and I have to admit I was blown away. What Silverlust created for us far exceeded any expectation I had and I was completely floored by how it turned out. My fiancé and very soon to be wife fell right in love with it. While I was there I was looking around and already found my next two purchases. A watch that took everything I had not to buy on the spot, and a gorgeous sterling silver business card holder. Both very reasonable in price, so much so that I will be back in no time to purchase as soon as or wedding has passed. On top of all this, when Silverlust creates the rings and band, they very smartly created it in a way that we can add more stones and items to them in the future setting me up for so many anniversaries and birthdays to come with great gift ideas. I've gone to Silverlust for probably about 20 years for new items to purchase, repairs on items I had from other vendors, and also for custom wedding rings. Herschel is the owner of the store; he is tremendously kind, has a great sense of humor, an impressive knowledge base, loves what he does, and thus runs a great shop! I first went to Herschel for belly jewelry back before it was gaining wide popularity as he had quality, handmade items with designs that you wouldn't find at other stores. As a side note, the store does specialize in sterling silver (which is my favorite), hand crafted pieces, and natural stones of all kinds. In addition, over the years, I've see cuff links made of ancient coins, medallions fashioned out of real sunken treasure, and a collection of stones with a lot of character that you won't find out a large retailer of jewelry. There are some pieces that look medieval like a knight would wear it around is neck or dainty glass rings that a high born Renaissance woman would wear. I'm particularly fond of the woman's collection as it has understated pieces that are very simple next to a brilliant emerald green ring in a strange ring setting that looks like something out of a fairy tale book. Needless to say, they pack a lot of variety into a little bitty store. The jewelry here is one of a kind and has a lot of care put into each piece by the time you see it. Needless to say, this is my favorite jewelry store in the world and the precise reason that they have repaired important family pieces and why I came to them to design my spouse's and my own wedding bands. On repairs, they repaired a bracelet my sister bought in Greece for me as a gift 20 years ago, and restored it to looking better than it originally did. When they replaced the links, they matched them perfectly with the existing style. (Not to mention they didn't charge me that much and got it done in a couple of days.) They also repaired a gold pin that has been in my family for over 150 years that had a smashed clasp. Herschel took really good care of the piece and replaced the clasp with a tasteful replacement and returned it cleaned to it's original luster. (Again, really quick work, and it was pretty cheap fix too.) For my wedding bands, neither of us know what we wanted, so we just walked around and tried on a lot of things and talked it over, but we didn't make much progress. Herschel intervened and started quizzing us on what we liked while he took notes and made sketches of his ideas. (This was especially helpful the husband as he was at a loss during the process) Within about 10 minutes, Herschel sized us and had custom designs for both rings. The rings were ready 2 weeks ahead of schedule, and they were absolutely perfect to what we had hoped they would look like. In addition, I believe the pricing was very reasonable for 2 rings custom made in a week and a half. All in all, this is a great place to go for an out of the usual purchase, a custom piece order and for important repairs. Repaired a pair of earrings for me and custom made a hammered gold nose ring to fit my huge mediterranean nose. The only thing that could have been better was they didn't call to confirm a cost for my earring repair before completing it like we had agreed on. That would have been a good thing to do. Just stress that point and it shouldn't be a problem. The repair ended up not being very expensive, so I was ok with it. The other thing is I was looking for a cross for my husband and they kept telling me what he wanted... but they didn't even know him. Mildly irritating, didn't buy a cross from them.
