Been to dozens of live music entertainment venues and stage shows in the Mesa Arizona and Phoenix area and this is BY FAR the best there is. If I compared it to the nearly 100 shows I've seen in Branson and other major US cities, it's still BY FAR the best there is, off the charts, a score of 25 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being high. They have no competition; they are the best group of musicians and venue. Using several criteria, from talent of the musicians, sound quality of the sound system, overall atmosphere, popularity of the tunes selected (from golden oldies and classic rock to Broadway tunes and legends of country music), it's all BY FAR the best. We are SOOOOOOOOOOO lucky to have this live entertainment theater in Mesa AZ. Suitable for ages from elementary school to 110 years young. Every friend and relative who visits me and my other friends and relatives in Mesa is treated to a show and they are all equally amazed and looking forward to returning. Just buy a ticket and go... you will be glad you did. Reservations are not required, per se, but the shows fill up fast and tickets are not always available at the box office the day of the show. With multiple-tiered seating, every seat in the house has an excellent view of the stage and the sound is excellent throughout the theater. I naturally have a preference for the 1st or second rows, since I love being close to the stage where I can view the performers facial expressions and musical instruments up close. Oh, and the ticket includes a fabulous dinner buffet with a variety of salads and main entrees and excellent vegetables (I'm vegetarian, so those are my favorite) and includes desert. The outer lounge and bar opens a couple of hours before the show and has excellent seating to meet your friends and sit comfortably in booths or couches and visit or meet new friends before the show. They even have a gift shop for purchasing the music CD's and clothing and gifts. read more

It is very obvious to the audience these guys enjoy performing and have a great time on stage together. A wonderfully entertaining, feel-good evening with George Staerkel at the Silver Star! This was my first time, of what I plan will be many. We enjoyed seats near the middle of the theater, which has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is easy to see and good acoustics. The buffet was set up well to accommodate the guest and the food was tasty, kept well stocked and the variety impressive. The musicians were amazing - each multitalented, versed on varied diverse instruments and rhythm that lifted the spirits high. We had a great time and from the looks and sound of it, so did the entire audience. I absolutely recommend it. read more

This was our first time at this theatre. What a great show! Loved the theatre set up. Great idea to have a lounge for people to enjoy a libation before the show opens. The buffet was very good. Everything was fresh & hot. Great atmosphere & they started a little early cause everyone was finished with their meals. All the staff were really friendly & helpful. Attended the Christmas show. Wow the quality of talent is amazing! The atmosphere ,sound, and lighting well done. All the staff, Larry in security to our server named Page were GREAT. And after a fun evening we were wished a good night at the exit by the CAST. What a great touch. We have been to a few venues in Mesa ,and this is the BEST hands down. If I could put negative 10 stars, I would. This place is absolutely terrible. The show was ridiculous and not funny at all. Plus, we wanted tap water and they told us we couldn't have tap water unless we ordered alcohol. Wtf is that about?? Broadway Palm was way better and it needs to come back. read more

Total freaking disaster! Third rate management that hides from customers, leading a parade of incompetence. We visited for the first time Thursday evening, 3-23-17. Our hostess led us quickly into a busy area where all the tables were filled. When she couldn't find our reserved table, SHE JUST DROPPED US OFF at a table with 4 empty chairs and left! The table was reserved........but not for us! The other party showed up momentarily leaving us with no seats! She also left WITH OUR TICKETS!!! Fortunately my wife found a couple of friends and they invited us to join them at their table. Dinner is self-serve. Tortellini, potatoes, meat balls, salad and a roll. Back at our table now......... and we have just started to eat dinner. A waitress carrying a tray with two very large glasses of ice cold coca cola for the folks at our table dropped an entire 12 oz glass of ice cubes and soda onto my lap, my shirt, my slacks, my dinner and my salad, and then took off! So now I am cold, wet and sticky all over, and my dinner and salad are swimming in coke and ice cubes. My slacks were new and pricey. I found an Asst. Manager in the front lobby and asked at a minimum they pay to have my slacks dry cleaned. He had no authority. Couldn't do it. He assured me the General Manager would call me and take care of it. Have never heard from him. By now they are breaking down the buffet. I managed to grab a new plate of dinner and wolfed it down as the show started. I enjoy George Starkle. The entertainment was good but not up the level of entertainment he provided while part of Barleen's Arizona Opry. The rest of the evening however was a total catastrophe. AT FULL PRICE OF COURSE. I can live with the occasional klutzywaitress and ditzy hostess, but there is no excuse for the third rate management at this facility. Employees always rise or fall to the level of leadership provided by management. A customer suffers damages, and management hides. No offer of a comped ticket. No offer of paying to dry clean slacks soaked with sticky soda. No offer for ruining my evening. We paid nearly $80 for two for a disastrous train wreck of an evening. Friday 3/24, mid afternoon, I called to speak to management. The girl answering the phone said they had a lot of managers and she asked me "which one?" I said "How about the General Manager?" "Oh no, he isn't here." Friday night is a busy night. Where's the General Manager? Nobody knows! My wife and I have enjoyed many dinner and theater shows in Arizona, Branson, MO, and live Casino shows in multiple states. We have also enjoyed past dinner shows at Barleen's Arizona Opry. This was the first, and it will be the last time, we will attend the Silver Star. With such poor management, they will go under just as the Broadway Palms did before them. Comparing the two, Barleen's Arizona Opry has top notch, professional management, hostesses, servers and entertainment. Again, employees always rise or fall to the level of leadership provided by management. At Barleen's, everything is highly organized. Employees are well trained and do their jobs quickly and efficiently. Barleen's Arizona Opry is bigger and better in every regard, including the entertainment and it's the same price. I'll go to Barleen's in the future. Suggest you do so also. read more

We went to "Les Miserables" show as a group of 8. The show was okay but just had way too many silly lines and I'm a person who enjoys comedy. It's hard for the actors to show case their talent with an "over the top " silly show. Our entire group especially enjoyed the music and comedy of the "show" ( after the main show). I also enjoyed the pizza and the price of the show is really quite reasonable. In March our group of 14 went to the "Beatles Tribute band" which we all really enjoyed . . . Well worth the price of admission! There are more shows like this coming up in May which we would love to attend but unfortunately we are "snowbirds" and have now returned to .Canada. Sure hope there are some more tribute bands in November and in February, March and April of next year. read more

We went to The Palms Theater last night for the evening performance of "Burt & Me". We had a wonderful evening! The food was delicious. The waitstaff was efficient and personable. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance! In looking over the coming performances for the next season, we saw several shows we intend to see, and we have visiting friends and family that we know would enjoy The Palms. read more

Another fun evening at the Star Theater. It was our 3rd visit this season. Nice that they have 15 different shows. You can arrive early for cocktails in the lounge. You can also order drinks before the show and during intermission. The buffet is good and the line moves along pretty fast. The layout of the theater provides you with good viewing from wherever you sit. Love the tiered seating. They have added a female singer to the group. They all are multi-talented. We enjoy the variety of the shows and will be going back next season. Good location and plenty of parking. read more

My husband & I attended the New Year's Eve show & the show itself was great, however the way the seating was for the dinner & the show was horrible! We were supposed to have VIP seating for both the dinner & show but when we arrived for dinner, there was no VIP seating available as they obviously sold more VIP tickets than they had tables for. When it was time for the show we were seated on stage to the side of the band with loud speakers aimed directly at us. There were 4 rows of other "VIP's" seated so closely together it was ridiculous. There were no tables available to put our drinks on so we were made to hold them in our hands the entire show. The show itself was great but the manager we spoke to when we tried to voice our concerns to regarding the so called VIP treatment was rude & condescending. We certainly won't be back & I would not recommend it to anyone. The theater was more focused on packing in patrons like sardines than making sure their customers had an enjoyable time & were anxious to come back. read more

My wife and I along with a couple of friends attended the New Years Eve celebration at the Silver Star Theater. We where sold VIP seats for $83.00 each and were told we would have seats up on the stage to watch the band preform and would have exclusive seating in a VIP section. When we arrived where would put into the bar lounge and sat in a booth and were told you can see the VIP section just behind you and you should be happy. After we went up on the stage to watch the show 8 the 30 people seated up their left within moments of the show because we where sitting on cables from the instruments. The general manager called me over to apologize and offered us a free bottle of wine. (which was wonderful of him) He then explained that it was not his call to have VIP tickets it came from Utah the corporate offices. He said "call me on Monday and I will have 4 free tickets for you to attend any show of our choosing". I told him that was not necessary but insisted. We chose a show and he agreed. Mark called me this evening and said that the offer was taken back because Corporate offices changed their mind. The worst part was that Mark was laughing about it when he told me and said basically we where not welcome back. My wife and friends would appreciate a complete refund. read more

Was at this theater in 2012. I agree with the reviews from that time, horrible show, food and service. Hesitantly booked to try this new group and ownership. WOW! WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE! We just went yesterday to the Variety Odd show and have already booked Country Classics for next month. Fun, fun show, very good food and great service. This is BEYOND horrible - NOT funny at all - had to grit my teeth to make it through the first act. I cannot believe anyone would have the gall to charge people MONEY to see this mess! If you want to see GREAT comedy theater, go to the Gaslight in Tucson - well worth the drive! I cannot imagine that Silver Star will be in business by summer - the writing stinks; the comedy is non-existent; and I've seen better acting/singing at a 6th grade play for FREE. Saw "A Christmas Carol" in the afternoon & Rhythm Cats the following evening with family & friends. I've seen "A Christmas Carol" many times (in NYC & Seattle, and several cities in between). I loved the Silver Star version. Scrooge was fantastic. Bob Cratchit & Tiny Tim were particulary good. The ghosts were wonderfully creative. The sets & lighting were fabulous. The show opened with fun carolers who continued a bit too long, but transitioned skillfully into the play, which was one of the best versions I've ever seen. The Rhythm Cats show was also fabulous. The musicians & singers are incredibly talented, and performed a fun & emotionally moving program that ended with the audience giving an enthusiastic standing ovation. The humor of Mark Lucas was wonderful. The dinner (included in the price of the tickets) was excellent--fresh, tasty, and a broad menu that works well for meat eaters & vegetarians alike. I highly recommend both shows: Rhythm Cats & "A Christmas Carol". read more

We took my 86 yr old mom in law to see Les Miserable. Great show! funny, witty, fabulous singing talent, The cast put on a separate show on after the performance was over. wonderful and entertaining cast, energetic and cute. The cast was there to greet everyone that attended after the show. The tickets are very, very reasonable, seats and view are great, food is not bad, and staff are all terrific and warm. i would recommend Silver Star Playhouse highly for an afternoon of theatre delight. It's not Broadway, but it is the next best thing! Loved it! read more

We had high hopes for this venue when we purchased tickets for the Christmas show. There were so many things wrong I don't even know where to start. The show was just not funny. The political jokes were gratuitous and awkward. The casting was poor with no chemistry amongst the cast. A 60-something man romantic with a 20-something woman was particularly uncomfortable. Tiny Tim being continually beaten with his crutch? Again, not funny. Costumes looked cheap. Set design was minimal and forgettable. And on & on. Then there was the poor service at the table; ignored for a good 20 minutes until after the show started. Also, are there plumbing issues? The lounge next to the bathrooms was noxious. I will say the only thing they did right was online ticket purchasing. It was easy and convenient. Unfortunately, we won't be needing tickets for future shows. read more
