This is the home of Actor's Youth Theatre which has various performances throughout the year. It's an aging theatre, but overall has been maintained fairly well. Love the variety of shows that happen, and it's a great plaza to grab dinner or a drink before or after the show. read more

This theatre was a wonderful place to experience a production from Actor's Youth Theatre. The box office is located right within the front doors for seamless ticket purchase if preferred over online purchase. It is an old theatre, but kept up well. The auditorium was able to fit quite a large occupancy very comfortably (I believe I remember seeing the sign state occupancy was 200+). There was plenty of room to be comfortable. The chairs came with a drink holder which could be adjusted up or down. They were also very plush and nice to sit in for the length of the show without my legs falling asleep. read more

This was my second visit to see a youth production by AYT at this theatre. And let me be clear- this review is about the THEATRE, not the performance or the kiddos because they're fantastic & always worth it! (But on that note- I highly recommend seeing just about any production they put on regardless of the theatre- so talented & fun to watch!!!) The Tuscany Theatre, itself, has seen much better days. Upon my first visit, I gave the benefit of the doubt & figured maintaining is in the works- probably following a busy production season. I was wrong, as a year later nothing has been given any TLC. It's really starting to go downhill & some things are borderline safety concerns. A simple coat of paint would help a lot. But on the technical aspect, it needs a lot of help. The mics were literally taped with scotch tape to the actor's faces & they barely worked. Out of 10+ wearing a mic, only one of them could be clearly heard. The rest cut in/out or just didn't work at all. There was a bit of a struggle with the lighting & digital backdrops, as well. Seeing the steps taped & beginning to wear heavily on the sides, it was a bit nerve wracking sitting front row watching them dart up/down/back/forth. And, it finally happened: one of the steps caused a young lady to nearly fall. Thankfully that didn't happen entirely & others took note to avoid that corner. It held up the rest of the show but I was nervous watching. I understand this group relies on donations, heavily to support their endeavors & maintaining everything that goes into a production. But there is also somewhat of a bigger picture- the building/suite owner should be maintaining things better. It's a nice touch to have the screen added to the lobby to view a slideshow of the cast- but the programs already outline that. Money that could/should have been spent better. What the kids are responsible for is well done- they all pitch in on helping set up, clean up, greet, seat, sell concessions & run the box office. It's great to see them hands on, eager & ambitious! The touch of light up roses to purchase upon entering was a lovely little touch for this production! Another aspect that is greatly appreciated is the concessions. While you're welcome to bring in your own outside food or beverage, they have a nice little selection of bottled water, sodas, chips, crackers & theatre candies. And, all for WAY decent prices- $1-3! Totally beats the bigger theaters! Parking is never an issue- plenty as this is nestled into a shopping center with a large lot to accommodate all businesses. There's also a cafe right next door if you arrive early & want to grab a convenient bite before a show. I highly recommend the AYT performances- they're a great family outing to indulge in or just to enjoy while supporting the aspiring youth. Just, really hope they can put some effort into the theatre, itself. At least to address some underlying safety concerns, but also because the kids deserve better. And on that note: the proceeds from attending their performances greatly helps them with props, costumes, music, the whole 9 yards! But, the Tuscany Theatre has seen better days- desperately crying out for attention before it's too late to repair. And, not very accommodating to anyone using a wheelchair, cane, crutches, etc. Small venue, a bit crowded & difficult to maneuver around. read more

I found this theatre while researching a good program for my daughters. New to the area, I started online. This theatre is home to Actor's Youth Theatre, which offers multiple classes (private and group) in all aspects of performing arts. They produce shows year-round. My daughter and I saw Pippin several months ago. I was blown away by the performance of these kids. The theatre itself is cozy, comfortable, and intimate. Shows are performed with a full set, costumes, light, and sound. Most performers have mics, and the sound quality was impressive for the space. You can tell these performers, their families and staff are dedicated to crafting young talent. We have since attended three shows, and my oldest daughter has started rehearsals for two upcoming shows. I'm thrilled at the level of kindness and professionalism we have encountered so far. read more

4.5, rounded up. Watched a musical here for the first time last night (Camelot is currently playing, with The Addams Family coming this summer if you're interested). This is a darling new 120-seat stage theater in Gilbert (Higley & Guadalupe), and it's the home of Actor's Youth Theatre and The Black Mustache Old Fashioned Melodrama. They run a dozen or so youth productions per year (plays and musicals) and hold many workshops and classes for young performers. But back to the theater itself: The seats are super soft and comfy and the armrests are generous and have cup holders. The floor is slanted toward the stage so there appears to be a good view from any seat in the house. The rush of the A/C when it kicks on is mildly noticeable during shows, but I could still hear the actors without a problem. And I loved the live band. The lobby is tiny but there's a nice space out front to gather before and after the shows. I won't comment on the show since I am biased (my child performed in it) other than to say I thought it was wonderful, of course. Would I go to watch not-my-kids perform at the Tuscany Theater? Absolutely. It's a charming space, and probably the most comfortable seating I've experienced in a local stage production. Tons more personal seat space than Herberger, Orpheum, Gammage, or Mesa Arts Center, for instance. There are some restaurants in the area too, if you want to make plans for dinner and a show. read more

This is a really neat theater in Gilbert. My son C is an actor and is currently in rehearsal for his 3rd production at this theater. The staff is wonderful, very pleasant and always willing to answer any questions. The bathrooms are super clean, the lobby, although a bit tight, is actually fine for the space and is clean as well. The theater itself seats 119 and I would say there really isn't a bad seat. Ticket prices for the shows are reasonable and comparable with other small theaters in the valley. The center has plenty of parking so it's not a problem. read more

A great new theatre in Gilbert, AZ! Tuscany Theatre is also the home of Actor's Youth Theatre. Our family has enjoyed youth theatre productions around the Phoenix metro area for years. We went to see a few shows at Tuscany Theatre and were very impressed with the production quality. The costumes, sets and overall talent of those performing was very impressive. This last summer, our daughter decided to audition for AYT's production of The Addams Family. She was given the role of ancestor and our fun began. From the day we started rehearsals, our daughter was welcomed into what felt like a family. The directors were very professional and yet provided a fun and encouraging atmosphere for all involved. Since performing at the theatre we have seen one of their new adult theatre shows (39 Steps). It was so much fun and well acted! I highly recommend Tuscany Theatre and AYT to anyone interested in seeing or auditioning for a show! This is a wonderful place for families to pursue their interest in the arts. read more

The staff at Tuscany Theater/Actor's Youth Theatre has been such an incredible blessing to our family. My son has had some significant changes in his life over the past three months (moved, changed schools, etc) and I have been very concerned about him losing his confidence and struggling to fit in. The entire staff and the other students at AYT have been so welcoming and kind and the programming has been our calm in the storm. My son absolutely loves his class and rehearsals - according to him he loves going to rehearsal "more than going to Sun Splash and almost as much as going to Disneyland". My son has ALWAYS loved theater and has been in classes since the minute he was old enough to participate but we have never had a more wonderful experience than we have had at AYT. The hard work, dedication and sincere investment in the growth of these young actors on behalf of the leadership, staff and volunteers is evident. Tuscany Theatre, what happened to you. I've been to many performances over the past few years and the one last night was a disaster. I felt so sorry for the poor kids on stage. They certainly did their job, but the technical aspects were beyond poorly done. Only a couple of the mics worked for only part of the time, leaving one struggling to understand one second while being blown out of your seat the next. There was no continuity with the music between the scene changes, when it was playing at all. I've been to much better elementary school plays. Come on Tuscany, you used to be better than this! read more

My son did one of their summer camps and we were very pleasantly surprised! The camp was a little short (4th of July week) but they were able to put together an amazing play with dancing, singing, jokes, the whole deal! The teachers seem dedicated and really enjoy working with kids. Way to go! We'll definitely sign up for camps next year and probably try their regular classes too! read more

This theatre is a breath of fresh air in the Phoenix/East Valley community theatre scene. Tuscany Theatre is the home of Actor's Youth Theatre, Black Moustache Melodrama Company (BMMC), and the Tuscany Theatre (for adult actors). Their productions are imaginative, nuanced, and contain high quality in acting, singing, dancing, directing, sets, costumes, etc. Full disclosure: one of my children acted in two plays here but is no longer involved - but I am! I am so impressed with their focus on DEVELOPMENT of the youth actors - not just putting on a great show regardless of the cost to the self-esteem of those involved. I have seen many young people gain confidence, presence, and leadership skills over their years associated with the theatre. A number of them have won scholarships to prestigious summer programs and colleges. This is an extracurricular activity that really prepares them for life! A true sign of the theatre's positive influence is that those who "age out" keep coming back to help backstage, direct, volunteer, or act in their adult-level company. That would be the Tuscany Theatre company. Their first show was roll-on-the-floor hilarious and I can't wait for the next one! The BMMC has also staged excellent, old-timey, audience participation performances that you just can't find around here anywhere. Bottom line: if you're looking for a safe, nurturing place for your child to attend workshops, take private voice, acting, or dance lessons, or act on stage, look into this theatre - You'll be glad you did! read more

Our children have been taking workshops, classes and performing with Actor's Youth Theatre at the Tuscany Theatre for many years. It is the only Youth theatre in town that doesn't nickel and dime you to death! The environment is safe and the other youth are so welcoming and inclusive. Unlike so many theatres, it is not a competitive, cut-throat group of kids. They are like a family. My children have grown so much since starting with AYT. They have gained confidence and their public speaking abilities have grown so much - they are very comfortable in front of a crowd and they speak in a clear and precise manner. The directors are kind and yet expect a lot from the kids. They want them to succeed. The shows are VERY well done. The theatre itself has the BEST, most comfortable seats in town! We are beyond impressed with the staff and youth at this theatre. They are caring and kind, quick to build each other up. They all are strong characters. Each class and play are well orchestrated. The performances are terrific. Costuming and make-up are amazing and the singing will take your breath away. My daughter has acted with Actor's Youth Theatre for five years which has its home at Tuscany Theater now. She loves it and has grown and matured through her association with it as well as being able to form some wonderful friendships with many amazing people. The Tuscany is also home to the the Black Moustache Melodrama and the Tuscany Theater for adults. I enjoy watching all of their productions and have found them to be of excellent quality. My family has been attending or performing in shows at the Tuscany Theatre in conjunction with AYT since January 2014. We have been cast in two, helped backstage with one and simply attended another. Throughout, the experience has been very fulfilling not only for my daughter but also for myself and the rest of my family. AYT does a wonderful job truly making you feel like family. We live in the neighborhood behind the theatre. Why does this place feel the need to be completing construction at midnight in the back alley? The kids from this place will randomly be screaming and yelling at all hours of the night. We've even seen the kids running around in our neighborhood in the middle of the night and have had to call the cops. What are the adults doing allowing the kids to run amuck and disturb the peace of the neighboring families? And what kind of example are they setting by having loud construction in the middle of the night? I wouldn't spend a dime in support of such an unprofessional establishment. read more

We love Tuscany Theater! The plays are always fun and very entertaining. We've seen several productions there and we always have a great time. It's a positive, family friendly environment, the kids love it, and we love inviting other family and friends to come along with us. The last play we watched was "Into the Woods". It was really fun to watch these young actors perform while drawing laughter and cheers from the audience. We highly recommend it! read more

Also known as Actors Youth Theater. . .my son just finished an acting boot camp here and in the beginning there were signs. Like him saying that the skit that they were working on was one where the kids were left in charge. . .the parents had left. . .and the family dog had been sitting under one of the kids chairs. The chair accidentally breaks and kills the dog - so to hide this from the parents they decide to spray paint the dead dog. Is this supposed to be funny? so this is only one incident - a one time thing. Today was the final show for the boot camp and one of the skits that they do involves a cat. A girl is leaving town and needs someone to cat sit for her so she hands off the cat to two of her friends. They take the cat home on the motorcycle finding out that cats don't like helmets and the cat has helmet head. So they have to spray the cat off with water to get rid of the helmet head and of course the cat doesn't like it. The cat runs away and the boys go chasing the cat in their car. Of course, the cat get's ran over by them so they have to put jumper cables on the cat and electrify it to bring it back to life. I don't get it. Do they think that killing animals is funny? And another skit was hiding halloween candy from parents. All in all, I was disappointed in the content of the skits that the kids did. I feel that the time they had could have been used to send a positive message to the kids and all I feel that the kids got were mixed up messages. We will not be going back and hope to find another theater where my son can do what he loves. read more
