    Tier2 row 8

Have not been to Gammage for many years. Received two tickets to see the Musical Shucked for a Saturday afternoon performance. I knew parking was going to be a challenge. Parked on the street a mile away after dining in a Restaurant and caught an Uber, that worked out very well. Went through Security and was impressed with the number of people there to help you figure out where to go. The seats we got were in tier 2 in the last row and the acoustics were great. Show was excellent. There were over 60 seats in Row 8. Even seats are on one side and odd numbered seats were on the other side. Figured that out after a few tries. I remember when Gammage was first built and surprised the Yelp ratings are mediocre. This venue is one of the best as is the architectural design.

I've been to ASU Gammage twice. Once was for a performance of Life of Pi and the other was for a live screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show during their 50th anniversary. When it comes to venues, there are a few things I look for: 1) Parking: ASU Gammage is located on Arizona State's campus in Tempe. Unfortunately, they only offer paid parking. And parking on the street is notoriously hard to come by in Tempe. You can find a spot for free, but you're likely going to be walking for 15 minutes or so. Which is what I do as I like to get my steps in and I'm allergic to paid parking. 2) The Venue: Some good and bad here. First, the good. This theater was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the most prominent U.S. architect. I'm a big FLW fan and I've seen his properties in cities across the country. FLW's trademarks, namely how light enters the building and how he creates space, is seen here. The creativity is awesome if you look hard enough. Case in point: he designed the theater in such a way that if you're on the second level, you can exit easily after the show by using an exit that takes you down a bridge. At other venues, you're stuck in a human traffic jam. Not here. And you'll also see some beautifully designed lights on the bridge. The downside? The seats are pretty uncomfortable. 3) The Views: ASU Gammage is a pretty big theater. I've sat on the second level both times, and while the view isn't bad, you are a little far away. I prefer a more intimate venue, but on the flip side, given Gammage's scale, they bring a lot of Broadway shows here. So the selection is going to be quality. While I haven't had any food or drinks while I've attended a show, they have your usual assortment of beverages and snacks. As the self-appointed king of the arts in Phoenix, I'll be back soon!

I've seen many shows at Gammage, from row 12 in the center to way in the back of the balcony on the side. It's gigantic, housing a ton of people. What I've learned: where you sit really matters get there 20 minutes early for parking there will be traffic bring a sweater, it's cold in there! you will walk, so don't go crazy on heels if you didn't pay for VIP parking They have some great shows come through, and it's a pretty building. They have snacks and drinks at movie theater prices. All in all, solid but not astounding.

First time seeing a production at Gammage. Orchestra B row 23 seats 48/50. Great view. Sound booth behind us, roomy seats, close to isle for easy exit to bathroom and concessions.

We absolutely loved the show Shucked!!! However, the acoustics in the upper balcony are really poor and many people in the audience were complaining that they couldn't hear the vocals in the play. It seemed that there were no speakers projecting to the upper balcony maybe? I'm not sure, but it was very difficult to hear. However, I'm sure that if you're on a lower level the sound would probably be better.

We came to watch a special Christmas Mannheim Steamroller show. We had tickets on the second level. The sound of the instruments was fantastic and our viewing of the show was great. What a joy this was! The Mannheim Steamroller band was fantastic and brought back so many childhood memories for me. There were plenty of concession stands at the auditorium to purchase drinks and snacks. They were quick . We had a phenomenal time at the show and I would most definitely come back here. The Gold parking lot we paid for was already full by the time we got there. It did take us an extra 10 or 15 minutes to park so if you're going to a busy show, please allow yourself some extra time. They do have a bag policy as well so please look at the instructions before going to a show. What a great night ! This show put me in a holiday festive spirit and I would definitely come back to see the show again.

ASU Gammage Moulin Rouge was PHENOMENAL.GREAT performers & FIRST CLASS performance.Parking was easy, in & out, thanks to the VIP pass I had. We had great comfortable seats & the theater staff were kind & friendly. Definitely looking forward to the next show :)

I had tickets to see a show courtesy of Yelp Phoenix. (Shoutout Yelp Phoenix) I was not able to confirm if I could take pics so I just decided against it so I wouldn't get warned or kicked out. The show was ok but the theater was really nice. The only thing that sucks is 1. No one answers the phone when you call the box office even if it's open. The voicemail lists the hours and the phone still just hangs up after that message. 2. Although it should have been clear, I could not determine if parking was free or paid. Hence me trying to call the box office to find out. Which , was unsuccessful. The staff or volunteers rather, were very nice. Everyone was friendly and able to answer my questions once I was there as it was not easily made where to go to see the show for a first timer such as myself. Anyway, if they can fix the phone thing , it would be easier for those who look to the website for answers and still have questions that needs to be answered.

I like Gammage for their selection of current Broadway touring companies. I appreciate the latest major renovation that added improved bathroom facilities. However, I had hoped for an improvement when it came to the acoustics. For example Girl from the North Country and Jesus Christ Superstar I sat on the main floor and the middle of the first balcony respectfully. I had a very difficult time understanding the words and lyrics sung by the performers. I don't know if it's the acoustical setup of the traveling show or if it's an issue with the acoustics of the performance Center. I was able to hear Wicked with fairly good clarity all three times I saw the performance at Gammage. Be forewarned, unless you know the songs by heart, be prepared to be frustrated at times to understand what words are being sung.

Great college theatre venue! Has a lot of good shows however the sound quality can sometimes be an issue. Overall great experience. Affordable show prices. The upper balcony might be a little high for most and not the best visibility. Life of Pi was the show I saw and it was great!

    Christopher J.

The parking wasn't a big deal and/or chaos leaving. The concessions were fairly priced, the bathrooms clean. I almost had vertigo getting to my seat in the balcony, but after the show started I was fine. And the sound/viewing from up there was good. Worth the experience!

I've had the pleasure of seeing many productions at ASU Gammage. Nice temperatures inside the theater. Snacks and beverages are available. Make sure you read the bag policy or tote a clear bag. Upfront, accessible, and garage parking avaliable.

I haven't been here in a long time to see a show, but we came to see Wicked. While the decor is a bit dated, the seats were comfortable and there was plenty of leg room. I had someone who was 6'9" sitting by me who had plenty of room. We had very little wait at the concession stand and the staff was friendly. Got 2 proseccos, a sprite, candied nuts and Twix which cost $35. They do not accept tips. I parked using the app in the spaces next to the building, shaded by the solar panels. Cost $9 for 3 hours. Overall this was a great experience and I will come again!

How cool is the theater's temperature?

It's not freezing at all. Feels like the low to mid 70s. I've worn sleeveless dresses each time and I was just fine.

How is this theater compared to others such as The Wang Center in Boston? Anyone out there been to both? Are the shows of the same quality?

I personally wouldn't compare the two theaters. One the cost in Boston versus the cost to Arizona is totally different. I am too, I think the quality are different, only because Gammage shows variety shows just like The Wang. I believe you should go… Read more

I still enjoyed my time each time even though we were probably the youngest as someone got my husband and I tickets here for my birthday the past two years. The music was fantastic and we saw the variety show and the Grand Finale show and I enjoyed seeing multiple genres of music. The lead singers and musicians were phenomenal, and I absolutely loved the costume changes. The outfit changes really held my attention and was a great part of the show. The food, however, was just okay. I wouldn't come here for the food alone, but rather for the overall experience and to do something different. The meal included vegetables, potatoes, mashed potatoes, spinach cheese ravioli, chicken Parmesan, pulled pork dish, and a pineapple fish dish. This was the same food both times we went, so I'm not sure if they ever change it, I wish they did for a change. The pulled pork and cheese ravioli were good, but I wasn't a fan of the other dishes. The chicken Parmesan was probably the worst I've had as it wasn't at all what I expected from a traditional chicken parm. Dessert is a slice of chocolate cake that's already at your table when you arrive. I did think it was a nice touch that they pass out foil before the show ends so you can take it home and not waste it. The recommended tip listed on a sign at the table is $5 per person, so in addition to your ticket price, expect to pay at least that much extra. Drinks are also not included, so that's another added cost. Overall, this is a great experience, more so for 50+ and would make a fun gift, especially for a couple looking to do something different. I wish they had a family friendly show where it encouraged families with kids as I could see my kids who love music at 2 and 4 enjoying the show and dancing! I sat about in the middle of the theater and had a good view of everything. I really think most seats will be just fine!

I was SO wrong and so happily surprised. The place was absolutely bumping. There was a show that night, and Celine Fatale was the first DJ to come out and she completely set the tone for the entire night. From the start, the energy was perfect and just kept building. I honestly have not had that much fun dancing on a random night out in a long time. The bartenders were so sweet, the bouncers were fun and welcoming, and the whole staff contributed to such a positive, safe vibe. But Celine really made it special. Her remixes were so good, and she was incredibly engaging with the crowd. She was dancing with us, feeding off the energy, and you could tell she genuinely loves what she does. At one point, some people in the crowd had this random toy they were obsessed with, and she actually grabbed it and started dancing with it. It was such a funny, spontaneous moment that made the night feel even more connected. I would absolutely go back again, especially if Celine Fatale is DJing. It turned into one of the most unexpectedly fun Valentines nights ever.

The flyer listed the event from 3-10 PM, but it seemed to end much earlier, which felt a bit misleading. The biggest letdown was when I requested Erasure -- a staple of 80s/90s dance music -- and the DJ said he didn't know who they were. If you're branding an event around those decades, knowing iconic artists from that era is essential. And if not, at least look them up. That's part of creating an authentic experience. For $35 plus fees and $30 for parking, I expected more attention to detail. As someone with a marketing background, I'd suggest adding a feature during ticket purchase where attendees can submit their favorite artists from the event's theme years. DJs could then incorporate the most requested songs into the playlist. That kind of engagement would elevate the experience and keep people coming back. The idea is strong -- it just needs a little more execution.

I recently attended the Kamayan Festival version of the night market which was part of the celebration for Filipino American History Month. I had a VIP pass to the Sapporo beer garden and enjoyed the perks that came with it. As much as I enjoy being a part of these festivals, the lines are usually insanely long. Organized by the Asian Chamber of Commerce, I know that in the past this required admission but this year's was free. I would not be surprised if it becomes an admission-only event in the future as it was packed from the entry time of 5:30. Given that the city of Mesa has decided to invest considerable resources to brand the area as an Asian enclave, I suspect it will get bigger and more impressive each year. While there are a ton of food trucks here, my advice would be not to show up hungry. Nearly every stall had long lines (save the poor coffee vendor). I would like to say that lines moved quickly, but most did not. I think it is better to have eaten a little something first and then show up and have a snack or two or come later in the evening when the live music really gets going. But if you plan to make this your sole dinner stop it will be frustrating. One perk of a big festival like this is that many smaller caterers/restaurants/food trucks that you haven't heard of will show up. There was plenty that was new to me and gave me a bucket list of places to try. I got some bao buns from Hot Bamboo which has a brick-and-mortar location in Chandler as well as a food truck that often pops up at festivals across town. They make Instagrammable character buns. It's a bit cheesy but the price was good and they were flavorful and satisfying. They were temporarily out of some fillings and the employees were profusely apologetic. It did inspire me to want to one day visit their actual restaurant. The vibe was great and the 2022 edition was a nice blend of people from all walks of life eager to celebrate our post-pandemic world (yeah, Year of the Tiger!). Besides food trucks, there were a few vendors selling gifts and other items but nothing popped out as too special. You can find the schedule on their website. Besides the night market, they also organize some daytime activities at parks that focus less on food and more on culture.

Once seated, our host greeted us and got us settled. The food was actually better than I expected! The chicken was huge and tender, the potatoes and buttery corn were really good, and even the soup was decent. The only thing none of us enjoyed was the dessert--it tasted like a frozen éclair and wasn't our favorite. I did appreciate that they offer boxes if you can't finish your food. As for the show, it was just okay from an adult perspective--kind of cheesy and repetitive at times. But honestly, the boys had a blast, which made it worth it. The one downside for me was how often staff came by trying to sell items like light-up swords, flowers, and flags--probably every 30 minutes or so. Even after saying no, they'd come back offering discounts, which got a bit annoying. Overall, we had a fun time and it was a great experience for the kids. Would I go again? I was chosen as a suspect and I needed to say specific things when all the suspects were interrogated up in front of the audience, on a microphone. "Anxiety spike!" A couple times, everyone in the room has to go around to other tables, or mill around the room, asking questions to try and figure out who the killer is. It gets very convoluted. I noticed that some people just gave up because it was too confusing. There should be a little bit more explanation as to what people are supposed to do, ESPECIALLY the people from the audience who are chosen as suspects, or people who have NEVER been to a murder mystery themed show. Overall, it's a fun time, but be expected to do some reading, take some notes and actually participate in the show. It's not like you're there just watching a tv show. Kudos to the company actors. They were fun. Good job, cast!

This was such a great date night experience. We attended The Murder Mystery Co show at the OSF…read morePhoenix and had a fantastic night. I like to be a jokester so I really loved being chosen as a suspect and getting to play alongside the actors in the event. It reminded me of being in a sitcom murder mystery episode like the Golden Girls. The food was great and I thought the $70 ticket price was a steal for a 3 course meal and 2.5 hours of entertainment. Planning on going again when I am in Philadelphia next month!
