I trust Silver Star Service Center with all the necessary auto repairs on my 2003 BMW 530i. Recently my engine overheated and a new water pump was necessary. Joseph recommended a replacement water pump with a metal impeller as a more durable option vs the OEM pump with a plastic impeller. I first dealt with silver star service center after buying a used Mercedes from them and enjoying it for about 3 years. The car started leaking oil at the front of the engine slightly at first and then it got to the point where I was putting a quart of oil in between oil changes. When I took the car to silver Star for service I was looking at other Mercedes is cuz I was convinced it was going to cost thousands of dollars to fix a leak on a Mercedes engine. After a careful diagnosis they replace the rubber seal and the total bill was just over $100 in that including a free car wash.When I pointed out how nice it was that they took care of the service that inexpensively when I was actually looking at their car lot for another car they said you're going to buy a car from us anyway why would we rip you off Been back several times since then and it's got the same level of service. read more

I have my Mercedes services by Silver Star but this time they went well beyond their normal stellar service! I was traveling South on I95 heading to Texas for the holidays. I just crossed over into South Carolina and stopped for fuel. Noticed the car was leaking oil, a lot! It had never done that! I reached out and talked to Joseph and explained the problem and as we were discussing options he not only located a nearby shop but called to make sure they could look at it and stay open as I was 30 minutes away. Joseph coordinated all of it and gave me the address for directions. The shop worked late and got me back on the road that night. Tremendous coordination and the best service. I brought my car back for an additional unrelated repair which was noted during my last visit. They were able to make the repair by bolstering my existing parts so I was able to avoid a costly parts replacement. This saved me over a thousand dollars. Having recently relocated to Annapolis, I took my few-year-old BMW to this shop to get work done. I'd hoped to avoid the dealerships costs, and prefer supporting local businesses if at all possible. It was a typical repair -- a window regulator replacement and tail light replacement. I scheduled an appointment a few days in advance but upon arriving they had no clue I was coming but took my car anyway. They regulator they installed broke the day I left. I brought my car back and they installed the next one incorrectly, and my door/floor flooded during the overnight rain. I brought my car back again and they finally installed it with no apologies for their terrible service. I noticed later that the chrome stripping was damaged from this process. As for the tail light, the light works but my car constantly tells me on the dash that it's not. As for the cost, it was equal to, if not more, than what the dealership would have charged with an added headache, damage, and malfunctioning light. Please heed my warning and take your business elsewhere. read more

Finding a trustworthy and reliable mechanic is a task in itself. Silver Star was recommended by a friend, so I tried them out. I cant say enough about how I was treated. The employees, specifically Jeff and Joe were always up front with the problems I was facing and the options I had to fix them. From the beginning they treated me as if I had been a customer for years. I was provided transportation too and from the shop. I was given a rental car when the work took longer than day, and I never felt in the dark at any point during my times there. Walter helped me solve a problem the dealer gave me the run around on for over a year. When I showed up at SS and met Walter and discussed the problem it all made sense how the dealer would only give me one answer. Dealers use machines and train people to use the machine. They do not train people on how a car really works and runs. I have gone with Walter/SS's suggestion and six months later I am still ecstatic and have the best ride my car has ever had. For well over 10 years, I have been taking my 1999 Mercedes CLK320A to Joe at Silver Star. A replacement of a rear wheel bearing should not cost over $1000, yet that was their quote. Obtaining another quote, I questioned their price and the owner reduced his rate to just over $700, closer to the just over $600 other quote. He also admonished me not to trust someone unfamiliar with my car, as they were very familiar with it. So with the lower price, I decided to again trust them over the other quoted price. Yet my final bill was again nearly $1000! They also charged me .8hours - a $90-labor charge, plus the bulb costs ($25.65), to replace 3 light bulbs! When does it take almost an hour to change 3 light bulbs? Only one bulb did I specify to be changed. Were these bulbs gold plated? Now, in the past, they have changed my bulbs for no labor costs! I feel betrayed; I will not be returning to them again, as I have never questioned a charge before and perhaps, knowing that I was on the watch for their fees, they should have been more cautious. I wonder how many times in the past have I been over charged...Also mileage in was 100miles under mileage out on my odometer..does that mean that they test drove my car 100miles? I also question the hours allocated to be 7.2 when they specifically told me that the job was a little over 3hours. Upon payment for this bill, the owner made no reference to a longer time spent than originally quoted. They had my car in the shop for a little over 6 hours - how to explain more hours than the car was in their garage - how to explain test driving the car for 100 miles - how to explain the loss of a more than patient, loyal customer of over a decade. I am not your average 'pull the wool over the eyes' customer and I don't like being treated like one! This time is the last time... read more

Whoever wrote the book the Trusted Advisor must have taken their cars to Silver Star. In all seriousness I've proudly had my car serviced by Joe Hall's team for many years. Indeed ever since my Mercedes fell out of warranty it has gone to Silver Star. That was 100,000 miles ago. I've always found Silver Star's work to be impeccible. But even more so I have developed a very good relationship with the owners over time and they have always treated me honestly and fairly. They've saved me thousands in unecessary repairs the local dealership is more than happy to collect. They council me in terms of what things need replacing and what things do not. They explain when items are convenient to replace whilst doing an unrelated repair and which things still do not require the work and expense. Moreover they are honest in terms of sending me to the dealership when things are still covered under various long term warranties. They could very easily charge me for these things but they are honest. Honest? Saves you money? Does great work? Communicative? These guys are what Mercedes Service Departments should be and yet aren't. I will even go so far as to say Silver Star exceeds my experience with Lexus. Until I met the Hall's, In my view, there was Lexus and then everybody else. I cannot recommend a better shop if you are near Annapolis and own an older car in which they specialize. Wonderful. They are communicative about procedures, timeline and prices. They offered me a new customer discount and a shuttle service. They also have deals worked out with Enterprise for easy dropoff and pickup. Id also read online after the repair they have a discount with rentals as well, but didn't particularly use that offer. They also diagnosed and fixed a problem that I'd had where I went to a dealer literally 8 times for just for the diagnosis. Price was on par as well for German autos. Always a pleasure to work with Silver Star. Their work is top notch, and the car is returned in better working condition and cleaner than when dropped off. Recently I had arranged some work to be done, which included body work. Silver Star underestimated the time to completion, however went out of their way to ensure I had a rental car replacement for the extra day. Completing the work required in two days was a feat, by itself, but also providing a rental car was above and beyond the expected level of service. Joe Jr. has been my go to guy for service on my SL55. They only see it once a year for an oil change and major go over. It sits in the winter and is at my Beach place in the summer. I know I should be driving it more but there always is the pride in ownership. Joe and Tom have always treated me like with the utmost respect and take a personal care for my car. I recently called to make my usual spring appointment and mentioned the suspension bleeding down over the winter. Joe said he would have his guys look at it and the appointment was set. About an hour later Joe called me to talk about some historical data on the car regarding the suspension. That is customer service. When my '12 ML is out of warranty they will be taking care of that car too. Highly recommend Silver Star for your service needs if you drive a Benz. read more

I have not recommended a repair shop in the last 15 years but that has changed. I can heartily recommend Silver Star. They had performed a routine repair for me once in the past and I had been happy with the job. This time, the experience was so positive that they are now my preferred repair shop for our three BMWs. I brought a 2003 325xi wagon to Silver Star for severe driveability problems that suddenly appeared and then largely disappeared. They carefully diagnosed and fixed the problem(s) quickly and at a fair price. Only what was diagnosed as broken was fixed, with no unnecessary parts replacements. Joseph listened to my description of the car's problem(s), kept me informed in a timely fashion, and answered every question patiently and in detail. In the process of addressing the original complaint, another unrelated and less obvious problem was uncovered. The cause was the failure of two relatively expensive parts which, as it turned out, Silver Star had installed three years earlier. The parts were well out of warranty, but it seemed to Joseph that they must have had a manufacturing defect. He convinced the supplier to provide replacements at no cost and split the associated labor costs with me. Certainly fair, as Silver Star installed the parts in good faith and the parts had failed significantly out of warranty. This experience showed me that Silver Start are not only competent, but honest, fair, and stand behind their work in the long term. I can recommend Silver Star without reservation. FWIW, Our family have owned BMWs since 1985. I have reasonable competence and the tools that have allowed me to maintain our cars over the years with few exceptions. I am now at a point were I am happy to "leave it to the pros," but they need to meet my standards. Unfortunately, my limited experience with BMW dealer service has declined to where I can no longer recommend any dealer's shop within 40 miles. I'm glad to know Silver Star is nearby. read more

We took our Jaguar X Type here with electrical issues with the lighting system. I felt that we received the quality of service that is usually reserved for a dealership, at a fair price. They were thorough, knowledgeable and most importantly honest. I have had my E55 AMG serviced here for over 2 years. I originally went to them on a recommendation from a family friend and I am glad I did. The prices they quoted were drastically reduced from the dealership and comparable to other local shops. What I appreciated the most was an honest assessment of what work needed to be done now and what could be put off to another time or as needed. I have transferred out of the area and moved to Italy but the shop has come through for me again. My air ride suspension needed a shock replacement, Naples roads are notorious, and the Mercedes dealership here didn't have one, it would take over 10 days from Germany. I happened to have a friend flying into Italy in the next 2 days, so I called the shop and they procured a non OEM, read half price, shock and handed it off to my friend for delivery. What would have been an over 2 week and twice as expensive repair was taken care of. Silver Star is an international service center! read more
