4 yrs with these guys. Two problems with their repairs in that time and they fixed them both. but recently they seem out of control in pricing. $45 to change a light bulb and $130 to put in a rear light fixture that I tried to install previously. I took 5 min to remove the old fixture. they charged for 1 hr of labor. when I complained, the guy said that I could pick up the car and take it somewhere else. not sure I can trust these guys anymore. going someplace else to find someone that will work with me and not rip me off. read more

Very disappointed in Redds Automotive. In my opinion, Redds fell significantly short of car care and customer communications expectations for a shop promoting itself as "specializing" in repairs to Mercedes Benz (among other luxury European brands) with mostly positive reviews. After consulting with two different Mercedes service experts elsewhere, it is my belief that Redds provided insufficient diagnostics and questionable workmanship on our Mercedes E-550 in response to three check engine lights between June and December 2023, opening the door to catastrophic oil infusion ruining multiple engine sensors and the wiring harness diagnosed after a fourth check engine light in December 2024. Having lost confidence in Redds, I had those major repairs done by a Mercedes-certified master mechanic for over $5000. Redds owner, Mike Ostrowski, adamantly denied any responsibility, and rejected a modest compensation request through his attorney for the infusion which happened during the period our car was in his exclusive "care." To be fair, I had no issues with simple schedule maintenance by Redds. I regret leaving dealer service hoping to save a few bucks at Redds. You get what you pay for. read more

Brought my car in for one thing because my usual mechanic was too busy. They came back with 15 things "wrong" and wanted to charge thousands. I said nope and waited for my mechanic to come back - who said all but two of those things are total BS. Oh and the things my mechanic fixed he did for a theirs of the price they wanted. read more

Not the most transparent or reasonably priced business. They have fine print about diagnostic fees and about won't guarantee their work unless you do everything they recommend in their diagnostic. I had 5 items on my diagnostic, 2 of which I could fix myself so I told them not to do it. Then after they did the rest of the work they told me they don't guarantee any of their work because they didn't do other 2 things I said I would do myself. Also they are expensive in general. Stopped in last month when my radiator was leaking fluid, and I couldn't make it out to the dealer. So glad I did! This is a family-owned business, and the staff is courteous, helpful, and not at all patronizing. Happily, there wasn't a major issue with my car. The tech topped off the radiator fluid (no charge) and told me to stop back in for any non-warranty work that I'd like done. I said that I would and made good on it a few weeks later when one of my turn signal bulbs was out. The tech replaced the bulb in the parking lot while Squeaker was asleep in her car seat. She stayed asleep the whole time--bonus! For seven bucks, I was a happy mama. On both visits, the staff was very friendly and addressed my kids and asked me about them. Normally I wouldn't mention this in a review of a service station, but it was really out of the ordinary. The waiting area is not so hot (just a few old chairs; you won't want to spend any time there), but if you need a quick fix for your import, drop on by to Redd's. My wife and I had to travel cross country for a family emergency and we had a slight shimmy in the steering wheel which I wanted to go away. Long story short Redd's was able to balance our tires so well that the wheel had no feedback, a task other shops had failed at. They changed our oil and looked the car over for our trip back. What really got me was the next day I was topping off fluids and went to fill the wiper wash and to my surprise they had topped it off. I actually went to Redd's Automotive before I bought my current cars, looking for VW diesel-engine vehicles. After getting a Passat TDI and Jetta TDI SW, I have happily turned to Redd's for EVERYTHING about the vehicles. While the Passat is still under the factory service plan, I will take it to Redds for the interim services (not covered). The Jetta was bought as a 4yo used vehicle with 70,000 miles on it. I immediately took it to Redd's for a thorough evaluation and synthetic oil change. No problems were reported and we (all) were surprised with the mechanical and visual condition of the vehicle given the mileage on it. When a heavy rainstorm caused water leakage in the rear storage area, Redd's crew water-tested the roof antenna from all angles, confirming it as the source of intrusion. Two days later with parts in-hand, they replaced the antenna at a fraction of the cost from the local VW dealership! Most recently (today), I asked the Redd's crew to check the seemingly-limited volume of airflow from the rear registers since I have a pending trip later this summer. After a couple of hours of checking the ventilation piping and trying various louver positions, it was determined that nothing was wrong with the vehicle--it's just the way it was designed. When I went to pick up the vehicle and pay for the technicians' time, I was told "no charge, there was nothing to fix." Even after volunteering to compensate the gents for their time, I was politely refused and sent on my way. I am already (happily) looking forward to taking both cars to Redd's for the next oil changes and will have NO hesitation with asking them for advice or unexpected repairs. And diagnose bad valves. After they were told it had bad valves. $6500 estimate to replace cam and valve. Other places about $2500 to $2800. Be very careful. read more

We have been Redd's customers for a while but recently they did two things that merit an excellent review. First, two weeks ago, I brought my 2007 Audi A8 to them for an interval service and they recommended changing the serpentine belt due to wear (at 109k miles). I authorized the work and they performed it same day. When I picked up the car the next morning, I was able to drive a bit but then noticed my charging warning light was on, so I brought the car back to them in the early afternoon and asked them to check it out. Turns out the new serpentine belt had disintegrated, perhaps due to a bad belt, perhaps due to bad installation. Even though it was late on a summer Friday afternoon, they obtained a new belt and installed it that afternoon for no charge, saving a weekend road trip. Then, a short time later, my transmission died and I had to flatbed the car to their location. They got me in first thing the next morning, diagnosed the issue, called for authorization, recommended using a remanufactured part instead of a new one (confirming same warranty, etc.) and had me fixed by that afternoon, all for a total cost less than half of just what the new part would have cost. I was incredibly impressed and grateful, as I had visions of $$$ dancing in my head when the car died. I have never felt up-sold by Redd's or had them suggest doing work that wasn't necessary. And when I have said I wasn't ready to do some recommended work, they are honest about the risks of waiting and what to look for to recognize when it absolutely, positively needs to be done. Generally very safety focused, which I appreciate. Very highly recommended. read more

Looking for recommendations for BMW mechanic- (not Auto International Repair,pls). I had always heard great things about Redd's and it's not easy to locate a good AND reasonably priced BMW mechanic. So upon returning from 5 years in Germany with the same BMW I'd taken there, I needed an inspection to re-register the car. In Germany I regularly used the expertise of the German mechanics to maintain my car in tip-top shape. And, as a member of DoD personnel passing annual car inspection is required when overseas. Additionally, the military will not transport a car to or from the US without passing a meticulous inspection. So I had no concerns about taking it into Redd's for the MD inspection. NONETHELESS, at Redd's my car required over $2500 of work to simply pass MD inspection! I have NO IDEA how that was possible; however, as when I'm at the Dentist, I don't have the expertise to argue and am at the mercy of the "professional". Making matters worse: bc I planned to pick the car up after closing, they left it parked half a block away and on the other side of the street. No concern about security. I have never wrote a negative review however thru a lack of communication from Redds I have to. I called redds because I saw all of these great 5 star reviews. I am not a car person I usually just go to the dealer and have them fix my car problems. When I called on the phone and explained what was wrong with my car the person on the phone was friendly and nice. However at no point did he inform me that the estimate would cost me money. When I dropped off the car it was right before closing he was on the phone and since we already spoke on the phone. I left the keys and went back home. Two days later he informed me how much money it would cost to fix it no problem. When I went to pick up the car he asked me how I would be paying. I was confused and surprised he then pointed to a little sign that said if the car has to go up it will be $160. At no point was this mentioned call me naive but I think you should tell customers about that before you bring your car in. I will never do business again with redds. I'm not sure I would rate this garage very high. My husband, my friends, my tenant and I have all used this garage for general repairs. Each time we've had to leave our car for *days* for the service to be completed. Each time the bill has been in excess of $1000 or more. And on more than one occasion, something came back broken. This garage was fantastic when they first opened a few years ago but lately they've been inconsistent and sloppy. I might use them in a pinch but not if I had options. read more

Last week I noticed that one of my tiers was getting low so I called Redd's and they were able to fit my car in to look at the tire so I dropped the car off and was told that I could come back in an hour. I had a nail in the tire so it was patched and I had by car back! So thankful! I have been taking my cars to Redd's for many years. In fact my 20 year old Volvo had such great care it is still on the road in Charleston SC. I gave it to my nephew when I replaced it with a new car. If I could give them negative stars I would. Took my car in and they kept it 3 weeks said it was fixed charged me $500. Didn't even make the mile and half to my house when the original problem resurfaced. Took it back and they were clueless "ran fine when we had it. Kept the car another 2 weeks and wanted another $1,000. After a animated discussion they charged me parts and let it go. I wouldn't let these guys work on my lawn mower! read more
