In general a good shop in the past but any miscommunication will be pinned as your fault. Appointment attempt done online. No email confirmation received and they said they called me but never left a message. Appointment 2 done over the phone. I missed appointment 2 but did not receive an email or voicemail. Claimed he tried to call me to confirm. Again, I checked junk mail folder and no voice mails were left. When I tried to call to explain that I still wanted the service done and there is some sort of miscommunication occurring, he simply said he cannot work on my car. Previous owner, Gary, was outstanding along with the techs that worked for him. The new owner(s) are ok but I am not sure the same level of service and expertise is there. They padded the recent oil change cost with frills that ran the bill up - like new windshield wipers that I didn't ask for. Gary's cost was typically around $85. The new bill was almost double that. After having difficulty with other shops, I decided to give Auto-Tech Annapolis a call as they were recommended to me by somebody. I'm glad I gave them a call! Gary was very friendly, informative, and helpful. I set up an appointment right away. Their waiting room was extremely clean and smelt nice. I had to get my brake pads and rotors replaced and was told it'd be an hour wait. It was only 30 minutes! Not only that, but they pumped air into my tires as well for no extra charge. :) Overall, great service and very trustworthy people. When you make an appointment a week or more in advance it is for your vehicle to be worked on. This place says appointments are for drop off not necessarily for repairs that day. This place slow and they make you feel as if you are a pain and not a paying customer. Stay away! read more

I am a fan of Autotech for the following reasons: 1. Gary and Morgan always explain their recommendation. 2. They don't up-sell. Gary has coached me on what needs to be fixed (i.e., safety-related) versus what would be nice to be fixed (i.e., irritating squeak). 3. Best I can tell their prices are comparable to other well-regarded auto repair facilities 4. If I leave for a trip, they will let me keep the car there for as long as I like. 5. It has only happened once, but they always resolve an issue they didn't fix, but charged me for at no cost. 6. Versatile--they have worked on my Toyota Tacoma, Kia Forte, Maxda CX-9. Excellent and honest service. Have used them a few times now and each time is great. This last time made an appt for brakes all around. After the mechanic looked at everything they recommended that I hold off on the rear brakes for thousands more miles. They could have just replaced them and charged me but instead were honest, thinking more about the customer and less about making a few bucks. Very clean shop (spotless) and comfortable waiting area with complimentary water and snacks. Wish there were more companies like this. read more

Each time I've called and talked this shop they have come off very blunt and rude. Even diagnosed my car in 3 seconds over the phone, wrong of course. I can't recommend this shop to anyone. And if your car is anything "pre 2003 they won't touch it". read more

At one time Gary would have been considered 'honest', obviously his business model has changed. I went in to have my breaks done; I had been in previously for an oil change, and the person helping me let me know my break pads were getting really low, and considering my driving habits I should get in asap. I thanked him and even mentioned that I didn't want to go through the expense of replacing the rotors. Not once did he correct me on how Gary defines break job. Fast forward and I'm standing at the counter ready to pay, and I see that I'm being charged for rotors. When I questioned the amount of the bill and that work was done without my knowledge or consent, I was informed THEN AND ONLY THEN that 'that's how we do breaks jobs'. I was told that there had been complaints about 'squeaking' because of rust and 'pitting', so now they automatically replace them. Meaning they will replace rotors whether it's needed or not. Again, not once was I informed prior or during these procedures about this policy. If course, I was given an entire $22 as a recompense, that and an apology about miss-communication. Doing work without informing the customer or requiring consent is the act of a thief. Don't buy the 'local business owner' charade; Jiffy Lube does the same work but cheaper and just as quick. read more

Auto Tech's mechanic Gary was patient, generous, fast and--most importantly--exceedingly competent when working on my 15-yr old Jeep with a starter wiring problem last week. On a business trip from DC where we live, my girlfriend got in our 99 Cherokee at the end of the day and found that it wouldn't start! 40 miles from home at rush hour is not where you want your car to be disabled! I found Auto Tech here on Yelp and called Gary less than a few minutes before closing time. Upon hearing the details of the problem, he told me he could come to where my girlfriend was stranded with the car and look at it. He was there 20 minutes later. After 5 minutes under the car testing wires and fuses, he got it started up and got my lady and the jeep back on the road headed for DC where I brought it to my local shop. Without him we would be paying $200 for a tow! I only wish I could have left the car with him up there instead of relying on my neighborhood shop. Then, the most amazing part: Gary didn't even charge us! He offered some advice about the underlying problem for my DC mechanic to work with, and asked that we follow up to tell him what happened with it. When I spoke with him today, Gary had additional advice about the problem! Please don't expect free roadside service from Auto Tech as standard (they'd go out of business in a week!) but please know that this kind of character and generosity is increasingly hard to find, and builds valuable trust. I'm now thinking of moving to Annapolis so Gary can be my full time mechanic! read more

I had an absolutely fantastic experience here! Gary, Morgan, and the staff were nothing short of amazing. My car started shaking really bad and I knew I needed to get it looked at ASAP before any lasting damage occurred. I normally go to the car dealership for maintenance and repairs because I'm pretty clueless when it comes to cars, but they were booked two weeks in advance. I found Auto Tech and I'm really glad I did! Gary was very responsive and booked me for the next day. When I was there, you could tell he took pride in his work and enjoyed what he did. He took the time explain in layman's terms what was wrong with a specific part in my engine, what it's supposed to do, why it wasn't working, and how to fix it. The staff found a distributor in the area that sold a replacement part, but they were closed for deliveries at that time. Gary went out of his way to drive to the distributor himself so I wouldn't have to wait another day. He quickly installed the part, checked to make sure everything else in my car was normal, and topped off all the air in my tires to boot. Everyone there was enthusiastic and kind. Great mechanic but also honest, which you don't always find. Won't sell you the moon when all you need is an easy fix. He has saved my son's 17 year old car many times. Knows what they're doing and have always come in on time and as promised. Wish that everyone ran their business as he does. He's got our business and everyone else who's asked me. BTW- we found him on Yelp when our son called us at 11:30 PM when his car broke down on the way home from work. Gary, Morgan and the staff at Auto Tech are a great team. I've had a 2008 Jeep GC Overland serviced twice and now a new CarMax purchase - 2014 Jeep GC Limited. We are gifting the '08 Jeep to our son and they saved me a spare wheel replacement by un-mounting the tire (original, but in great condition) and removing the rust that was causing it to leak air. On the new (to me) 2014 Jeep they identified a cracked rear tail light that was causing condensation inside - a MD inspection ding that CarMax missed. CarMax is now in the process of replacing the whole assembly, as they should. Thanks to Gary's thorough inspection, this saved me possible future expense and a non-working tail light. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! It is so refreshing to have a mechanic I can trust to be honest! I called them for an estimate to replace my brake pads and rotors after Honda told me I needed this. Morgan was very helpful on the phone and friendly answering my questions. The estimate was comparable in price to the Honda Dealership quote, BUT Honda told me I needed to completely replace everything and would not pass MD inspection in my current condition. Gary checked out my car and told me he could resurface the rotors (at least 2 times before they would not pass inspection!) and walked me through all my needs step by step. You can tell he cares about the work he is doing and the customers he is serving! They went above and beyond to make sure my car was in top shape before I drove 8 hours for the holiday weekend. They even did some smaller things without charging me for them. I will recommend them to everyone I know! read more

Had a bleh experience back in April - I was towed because my car wouldn't start, and after having multiple issues with the starter (AAA came in March and hit the starter to get it working), I knew it needed to be replaced. Auto Tech was kind of condescending and said that we had just replaced the battery incorrectly and that there was no problem with the starter, and charged us for a battery test. A few days later - had to get towed here AGAIN because of the starter, and then was finally OK to replace the starter. Also, had just gotten a rusted shifter cable replaced (at a different mechanic) and was never told that might have been part of the problem for the car not starting, which now I think may also have been to blame. The staff is nice enough but really were not apologetic at all about our running around and getting towed multiple times, and the price isn't right, either. read more

I went to this place because it had great reviews, I am from out of town and my car had started making some unpleasant noises that needed addressed. I don't like crooked mechanics so I look at reviews. I went in on a Friday and was told I wasn't going to be able to be fit in till Monday. I was heading on a trip so I moved my plans to accommodate this appointment. I brought my car in mid day because that's the only time I could find accommodations for a friend to drive behind me and pick me up. I was given no appointment time, just told that I could bring my car around anytime after they opened. When I got there the woman at the desk seemed to forget that I made an "appointment" until she looked at a notebook with solely the model of my car scribbled down. She then proceeded to tell me she no longer could fit me in and I would have to wait till Wednesday. I have to leave town tomorrow and can't wait, so along with wasting my time my car goes unfixed and I will have to go somewhere else. I can't attest to the mechanic ability of this place, it may possibly be great! However, I will never know because it is run so unprofessionally I couldn't even get an appointment after scheduling days in advance. Please use actual appointments for customers, and take contact info so you can communicate with them. read more

Gary (owner) and Morgan (receptionist/daughter) are awesome. They are very knowledgeable and honest. Gary will tell me if I need a repair that he can't do or he feels is best done by the car dealership. He was referred to me by another of his customers years ago. They always fit me in and have even looked at my car on a moment's notice when I heard an odd sound and was not comfortable driving it.
