I won' t be back. Food was good but order was not complete and service by Grubhub was terrible. I placed and online order at 12:08 to be picked up at 5:45. I received a text at 1:49 confirming my order and that it would be ready between 5:45 and 5:55. I gave you a 5 hour and 37 minute head start you should be able to have it ready when I walk in the door at 5:45. I really needed to be somewhere with this meal at 6. I got to the restaurant right at 5:45 and when I went in I was told they had no record of my order. While in the process of putting my order in all over again and wondering if I was going to be billed twice, all of a sudden the order shows up on the grubhub screen. So I walk out of the restaurant at 6:05, why did I bother to put it in early in the afternoon. I could have walked in at 5:45 placed a carry out order and without all of the confusion of an incompetent service I could have been out of there in 10 minutes instead of the 20 that it took. I get to where I am going and set out the food and then discover that the Cole Slaw that is supposed to come with the order was not there. The Sour Beef was excellent as usual and The Baltimore Reuben was good but I traveled 25 miles for this meal and expected it to be ready and right and I was really disappointed. It may have been GrubHub's fault and not the restaurant but if they are the company that you are going to use for your online ordering then it reflects on you not them. This isn't a restaurant where I would normally dine, but I was invited to dine here with family on Thanksgiving. We had reservations and were taken to a table that had not yet been bussed. We stood around awkwardly while the hostess attempted to take away dirty dishes and clean off the table. We then sat for almost ten minutes without a server coming anywhere near our table. I had to flag down a server and ask him to wait on us. We were never given small plates and had to ask someone for silverware, which they put on the table for us to pass out ourselves. They served us our entrees in pieces so others had full meals while some were still waiting. The broccoli was undercooked and unseasoned and they were out of several menu and bar items. We've been coming here for a while and I'm still not very impressed. My grandfather loves it though, he gets the sour beef and dumplings which is probably the best thing on the menu, and I'd recommend it. Their appetizers are the best part, obviously the crab pretzel is good, but my favorite is the mozzarella sticks which are in a crispy wonton like wrapper and are fantastic. But as far as entrees go nothing I've gotten is very special for the price, their sides are lacking as well. read more

This Perry Hall location use to be an excellent place to dine, tonight it was bad, very bad. First off the greeter just stood there, my wife said party of 3, the greeter stood there like she was spaced out, then says how many, then I repeated party of 3, she walked away and 4 mins or so later comes back and says I think we can seat you.. our waiter was decent, great with food and refill service how ever he didn't get much right along of 2 of the three salads ordered were to be no cucumbers, then I ordered the stuffed rock fish topped with crab, the crab was delicious, the rock fish tasted like it was possibly cooked, frozen and cooked again. Drove down from the Philadelphia area to meet family halfway between and ended up here because my wife wanted crab cakes. SSMC did satisfy and impress! The hostesses and wait staff were very friendly and open to walking us through our first experience. The fried pickles and Maryland Crab Pretzel were good starters for the table and some of us had the Crab Soup and Louisiana Bayou Soup that was the SOTD. I personally got the restaurant week special and was not impressed with the 6 oz. Sirloin, but I can't recall ever being impressed with a sirloin cooked at this level restaurant. The crabcake was really good and although I would have appreciated a little more spiciness, it was still VERY staisfying. My wife got the double crabcake and she brought one of them home for today's (NFL Playoff Sunday) lunch. Others at the table ordered the special, the ribs and day's special and remarked that it was definitely delicious! The only complaint that I have was the level of noise coming from the bar downstairs, BUT it was during a Ravens playoff game, so being a sports fan, I totally understand! If you are ever in the area give SSMC a go. I don't think that you will be disappointed! read more

My S.O. and I decided to try Silver Springs out a few weeks ago, and were really disappointed. Honestly, the staff were amazing. We had great service and felt at home. And then the food came. I ordered the Baltimore Rueben (crabmeat, shrimp, bacon, on marble rye with tomatoes, 100 island dressing and cheddar jack cheese). I was very excited to try something new. Usually, when someone orders seafood, they want to taste the seafood and not the pound of cheese melted on top of it. The same goes for my boyfriend's meal. He got the Shrimp Creole, but there was nothing creole about it. The food sounded delicious while reading it on the menu, but it was ultimately a very pricey flop. I've never wanted to not pay for a meal and instead only tip the server. This place has great potential if they decide to go forward with what makes the main part of their meals taste great, and not the cheese that covers it up. read more

"What was Once a Great Value, Now is Over-Priced" I have eaten here with my family and Business associates more times than I can count. It was a staple for lunch as well as dinner when we desired a good soup, salad, wings, and reasonably priced and prepared dinner. After our visit recently, I must conclude that the changes they made to upgrade the restaurant and the menu has only made them more expensive and loses their earlier identity as a wonderful value for business, family, or couples dining. I cannot see this working for them with so many other options in the area. Our dinner was accompanied by a CBS coupon that dropped the price. We opted for a Small Salad, Shrimp Salad sandwich, Crab Cake platter that included only one side and a draft beer and soda. Total bill was $45 before the $30 deduction with the coupon (coupon still cost us $15 when purchased)! The Total Bill was nearly $10 more than we would have paid 6 months ago. Now, the food was reasonable but not worth the extra price. I have numerous other places I could go for better crabcakes and at a much better value. Burgers and sandwiches use to be Under $10! Not any more, average is $10-15. Wings are way overpriced (Small order $9/Large $17). Ridiculous. All in all, I would now skip the restaurant and stay with the Bar downstairs for a fun time. The menu there may be more reasonable and it is a great place to catch a game, even if you only order drinks. read more

I haven't been here in a couple years and things have really gone downhill! The crab pretzel is still just as good, but the mozzarella sticks are different. I imagined that they ran out of mozzarella sticks, so they wrapped a string cheese in a spring roll wrap and called it a day. My main course was the steak and cake. The steak was cooked perfectly, but didn't have much flavor. Maybe a lower quality meat or the kitchen doesn't use seasoning. The crabcake was the worst. There were very few lumps of crabmeat and a lot of filler. I'm also pretty sure it was previously frozen instead of made fresh daily like a good Baltimore restaurant. The service was great, the food arrived quickly, and the drinks were quickly refilled. I just wish my meal was as good as I remember it being a few years ago. read more

I finally ate at one of these restaurants for the first time. I liked how friendly the people were, and that really makes a difference. The food is like the quality of most other chain restaurants in the area. It's a little pricey, but they do give you a lot of food. The taste is decent, and the environment is not too crazy or packed in to make you feel overwhelmed. They never let our glasses get even close to empty and we left with smiles! Overall: a good place to go for chain restaurant quality at an ok price. read more

I love this place, i have been dining here since i was a child and they serve one of my most favorite dishes that you CAN NOT get at just any restaurant. i absolutely love the sour beef and dumpling that they serve here. I am german and my great grandmother used to make me sour beef and dumplings as a child because it was my favorite home meal. I have never found any one who can come close to her recipe, with the exception of me because i have it lol. i always order this with an extra dumpling. Any one who knows about this dish knows it is a very hard dish to make and takes days. you have to sour the meat and the sauce can be very finicky when cooking. the consistency has got to be perfect for it to be enjoyed appropriately and this place hits it right on the head. This is no 10 star dining establishment but it has this quaint sense of home feeling that keeps me coming back. i love their margaritas and drinks and the crab pretzel is so good. definitely made to share but for sure worth getting. i always recommend this location to all friends and family. read more

I've driven past this place countless times...not sure if that's a good thing or bad, either way I finally made it. It's super confusing how to get in the main restaurant. They have a bar entrance and a restaurant entrance...Maybe it was because I was extremely cold and just looking for the first available door. I met up with an old girlfriend from college for dinner and some drinks which we definitely enjoyed. They have an extensive menu, quite overbearing, but good. They could be updated as they were a little worn and flimsy. We ordered with no issues, although it was very busy. Our waitress was polite, friendly, and attentive despite handling a numerous amount of tables. Our food, drinks, appetizers came out in a timely fashion. I think my rating is what it is because....they didn't provide anything spectacular. Just another restaurant. Unfortunately, when restaurants become chain restaurants, I think the quality of their service declines. Perhaps they could change the menu or some items on the menu to make them special. I don't have any major negatives about my visit, it's just not somewhere I intend on visiting again. read more

I hope ya'll read this with the understanding that this is a place of family history for me. My Granddad used to take my dad there, when he was a child. Granddad would get a beer, Dad, a ginger ale and both, crabcakes. Upon my recent visit back, we went there, with Hose, the aforementioned "old" family friend, and he stood in for my Granddad, sitting at the same barstools they both used to frequent. Granddad being dead since 1974, this was a difficult situation to remake. The food was oh, so good. I had crab imperial stuffed mushrooms shared with my husband, who was already a fan of the only real crab - blue - and they were great. I also had a half portion of the sour beef - must say, my dad makes a better saurbrauten - but it was really good to eat. NO WHERE in southern CA can I find the same goodness of the sour beef. Previous and reviews of elsewhere do declare this. However, I did like it and I enjoyed every bite. The beef was so tender, it just fell apart as you looked at it. Dumplings were a bit heavy. Hard to make those damned dumplings...Hose, had crab soup that looked and smelled like the perfection is can be. To beat a dead horse...the service. Again, just so nice, honestly NICE. Great customer service is a plus for me being im in the service industry myself. The crab pretzels is really good but be aware it's big! The bartender I forget her name was great. I stopped in during the orioles game and was able to get their extended happy hour menu. From the HH menu I got old bay wings $8 and two crab cake sliders w/ff $12. Wings were crispy with a dusting of old bay. Pretty good. The crab cakes were full and fit the roll perfectly, without feeling bread(ie). The fries were a nice portion too. I will be back to try the crab pretzel. I'd like to see a .50 wing night for the 0's games. ;-). I'd stop in more often. read more

Get a full order at the Valley View Inn on Satyr Hill Rd. for the cost of a 1/2 portion here. V. View's recipe is the closest to the original, despite SS Mining Co.'s claims. Service was indifferent - like we were doing them a favor by patronizing the place. And what's up with not being able to order a pitcher of beer in the restaurant? Our waitress didn't refill our drinks and seemed really preoccupied for not being that busy. This is one of the few times where my 5'2 & 3/4 self has to put the bass in my voice & say EAT HERE, BECAUSE I SAID SO!!! If you live in the DC metro area, "Gas up the Pacer" (in my best Martin voice) and take the hike up the road because the food is JUST THAT D*MN GOOD. To further influence your taste buds, I encourage you to take a look at the menu and be ready with your hands near your face for when your eyes pop out of your head. Such an excellent variety, and I am in love with the fact that, although this place doesn't pride itself on being a seafood restaurant, it boasts a menu full of seafood dishes. From crab, to shrimp, to rockfish, the variety of this menu is "ehhhx-sell-lint" (in my Mr. Burns voice). For family dining I wouldn't recommend the Hunt Valley location because it's more geared towards the happy hour (which runs late into the night) crowd, but the structure of all the restaurants is nice and cozy, especially if you dine outside because they have stone encased water ponds that give you a mountain resort type of feel without having to glance around you for fear of an avalanche or something. One last thing, try the crab pretzel, it will change your life. Since my first time eating one here, I have never ordered one from another place because I didn't want to be disappointed by it not living up to SSMC's greatness & having to leap into the kitchen to strangle the chef as well as over the bar to get my money back from the cash register. In either event, from my sampling of friend's orders at other places (yea they can be so naive at times), I still haven't met a greater crab pretzel. read more

Mom and I come to this restaurant once a week for about two years now. All the staff is so friendly and helpful, but our bartender Aubrey is always so prompt and always displays excellent customer service. She usually works days in the upstairs bar. I highly recommend this place. My mom likes Aubrey's Mudslides, she always makes them with extra chocolate just how she likes them! The food here is delishious and not expensive. the servings are a great size too. my friend ordered a fish sandwich and the fish was longer than her bread. the fries and chips are great. i got a bowl of chili for an app and mmmmmm it was delish. i got this chicken wrap thing that had a lot of rice in it and it was yummy. we ate in the bar area and all the booths have tvs, so you can in theory watch any game you wanted on i guess, buta lot of families were out for lunch before christmas eve mass, so no games on, but plenty of cartoons on for the kiddies. also it wasn't too full of an area, but the waitress wasn't checking on us too much, jsut enough to make sure we knew she knew we were still there. read more

I've been here a few times since the makeover. The place looks really good now. But every time we go there, they head directly to the center dining room which is a problem. The kitchen is open to this dining room. The staff is noisy and so the music played in the kitchen which is greatly different from that piped into the seating areas. I think they had a different menu all three times we went. Sure, the standards are still there but some have changed how they are made and not all for the better. This past visit, we walked in to find another party waiting for service. There were no employees in sight. When the hostess did show up she looked as if we were a nuisance she had to deal with. Luckily, we had a very friendly and helpful server. We both got french onion soup. It was strange - salty herbal cheese. It was made from real beef stock and a great grain bread that held up to the broth. My filet was grainy and overcooked but the crab cake was good. I got a side of squash but it was huge (full entree for a vegetarian) and it tasted more like fajita filler. I will always go back because I don't want to give up on them but I do speak up about where we are seated so I can enjoy my meal. read more
