You need to drive past several other wineries to get to this place, but trust me when I say you don't want to stop too early! Silver Lake is GORGEOUS, with an expansive lawn that allows you to enjoy their hilltop view, beautifully kept grounds, and delicious wines to taste. They do allow outside food, so go ahead and bring a picnic to enjoy with their wines on the grass on a nice sunny day. My friends and I showed up later in the day on a weekend and were shocked to find the winery very quiet...it felt so nice and intimate and the staff were kind enough (probably because it wasn't busy) to bring our tasting out in crates to where we had set up our picnic. The views were super pretty here. The wine we tried was the Cabernet Sauvignon and it was so delicious. The food was not as good. Maybe they just opened their kitchen so they are still figuring it out. The menu seemed like really good food though. read more

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous ... but the wine? Not my favorite, though a few whites were pretty good. (You might ask the proprietor if anything's on sale. We recently visited during the Red Wine & Chocolate weekend. The reserve wines they were offering were good, but pricey. They paired each with a treat (including a chocolate dipped jalapeno chip!). We had visited Silver Lake a few years ago and tried some of their other wines, which were more affordable. We didn't buy anything this time around. Of all the wineries we visited in Yakima, this one definitely had the best scenery... That counts for something when you are coming east of the Cascades for some R&R on the weekend. I can see exactly where the weddings must take place. There is a large glass clearing overlooking a good chunk of Yakima Valley. The winery itself sits on a small rise from some of the other wineries nearby. Come on a quieter day so that you can snag a seat somewhere and soak in the view. Inside, we were treated to the Spring Barrel Tasting lineup. The bar is spacious and set against the lagre barrels in the back of the building. The wines were not particularly impressive overall. The first white was particularly mediocre and didn't set high expectations for the whole group. I had very high hopes for this place. My friends love their wine so we decided to go. We went there around 1pm on a Sunday in mid-October. As we walked in the person behind the counter was talking to a friend and looked at us like, thanks for interrupting us what do you want. Then she proceeded to speed us through the tasting, not really interested in pouring wine or even being there. We did leave with a couple of bottles but probably won't be going back. The first sight of Silver Lake Winery is seeing this palatial winery sitting atop a hill rising above the road leading to it. Breathtaking. But you ain't seen nothin' yet since you're not at the winery. My lovely wife and I have been to some beautiful wineries in Sonoma and Napa counties. This winery could stand beside any one of them. You looking for a beautiful spot for an outdoor spring to summer wedding? This is the place. This was our final stop on our Wine Yakima Valley Spring Barrel Tasting Weekend event. And what a way to end it. On their expansive green lawn behind the valley there was a waterfall flowing over a natural-looking rock slide, surrounded by greenery and behind a stone masonry wall. Picture yourself getting married in front of THAT. There were crafts vendors scattered around, a stage where a 3-piece rock band with guys MY age were playing great versions of rock classics, and a big ol' honkin' food truck with a pro smoking rig all fired up on a platform in front--Kim's Got Smoke BBQ. Things started out in the large tasting room. Once again we brought our own wine glasses to the tasting room but there was no need. We still used them, though. This was by far the biggest tasting room in the biggest winery we'd visited. Figures since Silver Lake wines have wide distribution in both grocery and wine stores. There were two men pouring wines. We started off with a bearded, burly guy who also happened to be a school teacher--just like our beloved daughter (who had picked the wineries to visit and served as navigator). He told us he was leaving teaching to pursue schooling and a career in winemaking. Of the wines he poured my lovely wife--and our beloved daughter--loved the 2015 Roza Riesling, a nice white on the sweet side. It has mass distribution in the stores but there's something about buying a bottle at the winery. We also bought a bottle of the 2015 Rattlesnake Hills Merlot. I typically like a red that's a bit more fruit forward but the tannins made the wine chewy and, dang it all, I like a chewy red wine. It's a great food wine. Back out on the lawn there were three small French oak barrels set up side by side. I think the winemaker or the assistant (I never asked which but he has two cute little boys) was set up behind the barrels with a nice lady standing near him to handle another group of visitors. He dipped his wine thief into the first barrel, drew out their 2016 Cabernet Reserve, and squeezed it out into our waiting glasses. The young fruit just leaped out of my glass and into my mouth. This wine is a mere babe and already so delicious. But in the next two years after aging in other French oak barrels it will develop more complexity and depth. But that's the fun of barrel tasting. Next up was a 2016 Cabernet Franc, not as much leaping fruit as the Cabernet but still tasting, perhaps slightly more tart. The last barrel tasting was a 2016 Petit Verdot, historically a Bordeaux blending group employed in both France and here but making a name for itself as a standalone varietal. It was a bit more tart, with raspberry flavors, and not as fruity as the Cab but give it time. And just like another winery we visited, the winemaker here went into the uses of new and older French oak wine barrels to impart various flavors to the wine, and the use of neutral French oak barrels which impart no flavors at all during the aging process. That's why I love talking to winemakers for all that great wine education which I find fascinating. We capped off our visit with a BBQ lunch that was pretty good, made even better by the gorgeous but windy sunshine and that rock band churning out the rock oldies. And what a way to cap off two days of barrel wine tasting, with the last two wineries (Barrel Springs the first) actually offering barrel tasting. This was among the best, most fun weekends we've ever had in Washington state. We hope to make this an annual event. There were so many wineries we never got to visit. So many wineries, and we have plenty of time. Silver Lake Winery gave us not only a wonderful time filled with wonderful food and wine (and the wife bought a cool ceramic kitchen sink sponge holder from one of the crafts vendors) but a wonderful memory. Very friendly staff, and the food + wine while not spectacular are certainly classed up by the surroundings. Wow, there are some seriously mixed reviews from this place. I feel very lucky indeed to be giving it five stars. This was the last vineyard we hit, which should have made it a blur of tipsy boredom, but their wines and service really stood out. The attendant was so engaged and involved, and we were lucky enough to have him all to ourselves. He explained everything about everything, and we left feeling like we really understood the wines we had purchased. Over the next few months, as we drank those wines, we felt that they were were delicious and reasonable. Yes, the tasting room is large and fancy, and you will feel like you are in a corporate space, rather than in one of the in-someone's-living-room tasting rooms that Yakima has to offer, but you will still feel a sense of involvement and excitement. This was the most ultimate wine tasting place .... We went at closing and realized the place had just closed ... As we were admiring the property on foot , Vinnie opened the door and said "come on in "! We were poured a glass of wine and inspired to have a seat overlooking the vineyards .... Vinnie then gave us the experience of trying grapes Fresh off the vine... And the juice that was just pressed.... Merlot, Cabernet, and Riesling. Beautiful View and Excellent Service! Some friends and I went Wine tasting here in February. We didn't really now what to expect while wine tasting or anything about wine for that matter. The staff was great. Very Friendly and knowledgeable. They helped us with everything from smelling the wine to sipping and taking in all the flavors. ! They also told us about all the wineries in the area along with restaurants and the events they do through out the year. We signed up for there news Letter. The wines were good. I personally liked the wines better. I loved the Girly Girl 2010 Pinot Gris and the bottles, they were so cute! Silver lakes 2010 Roza Riesling was also delicious as well as there Vin dolce Port 2006. As a group we all left with at lest a bottle, some with more. We came here since it was a part of our Passport that we got and we had a free tasting. There were 3 of us sharing 2 tastings and they pours were REALLY small. Hardly more than a drink. For the tasting itself that they offered, you could taste 5 wines for $5 which is not a bad price, but they only offered max 7, one the were out of so they had 6 wines to choose from. I was not impressed with any of the wine. So we just tasted and left, it was free after all. The grounds are really nice and they have a nice view but other than that I would pass on this one next time. read more

Man this place just sucks. It shouldnt but it does. We went there during an event and paid 13 each to have a plate of cold grisly hard pork (supposed to be pulled pork), store bought potato salad, some other salad with disgusting amounts of mayo and I forget the rest. It even was styrofoam plates and plastic foks. if you wanted wine which was also not good, that was another 5 or so. It was just disgusting overall and man just gross. I still feel nasty when I think about the food. It was hard to see 26 bucks go in the garbage because it was that bad. There are a lot better places to go. read more

My favorite of the wineries we visited today. The girl serving us was sweet and informative, the wines are good and the location is beautiful. We came in and stood around for about 5 minutes before someone even acknowledged us. When we were acknowledged, we didn't get a smile, or a "thanks for coming in" or anything. I paid for the Reserve tasting which was $10. Honestly, that was the only reason I bought a bottle, was to get my 10 bucks back. They weren't that great. Lots of merchandise everywhere, which is off-putting to me. The grounds were beautiful, that was definitely the highlight. I thought maybe the girl helping us was having a bad day but she was having a good enough time talking to the girl next to us who apparently used to work there. OMG, you changed your haircolor!!!!! We just spent a day checking out wineries around Zillah and found this gem. We had a Tuesday so many of the wineries were closed. But Silver Lake at Rosa was delightful. They have some really nice white wines (love the Riesling) and their patio over looks the vineyard and valley. It has a real Italian feel to it. Bring a picnic or just buy by the glass and sip outside in the sunshine. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the scenic beauty. read more
