Wonderful place! Being outdoors in West Valley is simply lovely. Can go visit St. Joeseph's Mission just down Ahtanum from here.

The staff and space here stood out the most. The service was very friendly and recommended other vineyards in the region. The space is really neat and inviting. It has the vibe of an old barn converted into a tasting room. There is limited seating, both indoors and out, but plenty of shade and sun outside depending on where you want to sit. There is also quite a large patch of grass if you want to bring a blanket and do your tasting picnic-style. The wines were very good. And since this was our first stop of the day, I am confident in saying so! The tasting fee and bottles are also very affordable. The Allobroges is a rather unique of Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre. I liked it enough to buy some for the road. Contrary to what you may read, tastings are NOT by appointment only. We walked in and were served quite immediately. Walk-ins are welcome for groups smaller than 8. They do private events and weddings. read more

Love the fact that they are open till late. We arrived in Yakima on a Friday evening and had a great start to our weekend with wine tasting at Gilbert. The wines were great. We did the regular tasting as well as the reserve tasting. All the wines were brilliant. Our favorite was a Malbec, it had a lot of complexity and depth. Their picnic basket was very cute and made for great snacking with the wine. Overall highly recommended for the wines and ambience. read more

Nice tasting room in downtown Yakima. Tasting fee is $8 (plus tax) to taste 6 wines. 2 Chardonnay and rest are reds. I loved the lightly Oaked Chardonnay. Met some really nice locals here, they were so kind and gave us good advice on wine tasting and restaurants in the area. They also sell local treats and the caramels are the best!! I didn't get a chance to understand how their wine club worked or shipping to other states so didn't buy any. read more

The website google page & yelp info for this company ALL must be updated. 2 Stars for the very sweet lady who (very politely) told us that wine tastings STOP at 5 pm. Yes, this is standard at many tasting rooms across the nation (I know having been to ones in 12 states), but the information clearly states Open on Fridays 1-9 pm with no mention that after 5 pm it is by the glass only. Sadly, as a wine collector from out of state, we made a special trip here. We are not able to return anytime soon. A miss for this company as we needed to purchase several more types of wine to add (and had not visited others so we would be able to do so....) It is located right next to a good restaurant for meals & houses in a historic building. Very beautiful. Info says 10+ wines available for tastings. read more

Tasting rooms in the city just aren't as much fun and interesting as tasting rooms at the actual winery. I felt like I was just at an ordinary bar and did not get much of an education and feel for the wines. The bartender was pleasant enough but I don't feel like he had any sort of passion or interest in the wines and frankly, after tasting them, we didn't either. The bar and seating is very nicely appointed but the wines and the tasting experience was unremarkable. read more

Wines were good, but they were very stingy when we asked to try something that wasn't on the red wine and chocolate weekend tasting list, even though they had it open and chilled already (and we weren't asking for upper end). In fact, I asked "are you tasting any whites?" And they repeated like automatons "we are tasting red wine and chocolate this weekend"...the other person said "well, for $5, we'd be glad to taste whites. This would be a 2-star ranking if their malbec and cab franc weren't so tasty. Not impressed with the service. I'm sure we would have bought the white if they would have tasted it. My friends and I go to Gilbert fairly often, they have great wine and it's a nice location. I've noticed recently though that it is horribly inconsistent. This weekend I took someone visiting from out of town and was so embarrassed by the experience. We ordered the cheese and meat plate which usually has a few wedges of different cheeses, a meat, some nuts, crackers, and a little fruit. This time it was crackers, three little pieces of pickled beet, one slice of prosciutto, and two tiny pathetic little slices of cheese. For $10. I was shocked! The people next to us got the same plate with probably twice the cheese and even that was pretty lame. We then bought two bottles of wine, later realized only one of our tastings was comped... which was just weird. I'll probably still go for a periodic glass of wine, but I'm not paying for the food again. read more

This was a thoroughly unpleasant visit as our 2nd stop on the Wine Yakima Valley Spring Barrel Tasting weekend. I'm really sorry we stopped there. First, one of the requirements of the event was that tasters bring their own glasses. OK, this being our first time taking part in this event, we forgot to bring ours. At Kana Winery (the place we stopped at before this place) they happily provided glasses. A blonde lady in her 30s-40s behind the tasting bar confronted us and proceeded to lecture us, not once but THREE separated times about how we were supposed to bring our own glasses. It was more than being lectured; she was reprimanding us as though we were children. I mean, we had broken the rules and SHE was going to teach us a thing or two--three separate times. Now, behind the bar I saw a couple of rows of clean tasting room glasses but it didn't matter to her that she had many more than three glasses to spare for my wife and I and our daughter. And it didn't matter to her that we were customers and she was supposed to provide a friendly, welcoming and fun time while pouring the vino so that we might buy the wine that provides the money for her paychecks. She was both rude and insulting. But, we hung in there. Especially since after the blonde lady had said her piece--did I mention THREE separate times?--she disappeared into the adjacent small kitchen or some place else away from us. I'll make one thing clear: Although the single row of tables behind us was full of people eating food and drinking wine (including the "frat house" group on the end), the four of us in our party were the ONLY ones at the tasting bar. So, it wasn't like the small tasting room was inundated with a mob of people swilling down free tastes and dirtying the tasting bar's precious, limited supply of wine glasses that had to be put in the dishwasher within that small kitchen. And did I mention there were two rows of clean wine glasses behind the bar? There also were two brown-haired women in their 20s behind the wine tasting bar. But before I get to them, let me mention that the tasting room is small but it has tables for people who have bought food off a menu to sit down at. At one table just behind us was a group of about six extremely LOUD, boisterous young men. So loud that I could barely hear the blonde lady lecturing us or anything else that was said behind the bar. After the blonde haired lady deserted us and one of the of the brown-haired female tasting room hosts took over, my wife jokingly (in an effort to relax the women behind the bar who she thought might be equally disturbed by the noise and as frustrated and irritated at them as we were) said to her, "Wow, it's none my business but how many wineries have THEY been to?" The host replied, "They are my friends" as if we were to accept that as reason enough to silently accept their loud, cacophonous behavior. Her personal friends who were sitting around drinking and eating and carrying on so loudly we could barely hear what the women behind the bar--about a foot or two away--were saying to us. Exit the 2nd tasting room host to some place away from us. What should have been the proper response had she been trained by the manager (who was most likely the blonde-haired lady? "I'm sorry for the disturbance. I'll ask them to lower their voices", followed by her going to the table and asking her friends to please pipe down because customers were complaining about the noise, followed by her having them leave if they kept up the noise. We didn't need to know they were her friends. That left the last remaining tasting room host, the other brown-haired one. At least she was sweet but soft-voiced. She gave us some information about the wines but, thanks to that table of guys, I missed most of what she said. When I worked in wine tasting rooms, they were called hospitality rooms, a concept sorely lacking at Gilbert Cellars. ***UPDATE 5/12/17*** Gloria Gilbert and Laura Rankin Schlect, two of the owners, have been most gracious in reaching out to us, especially Laura, with their apologies and their sincere desire to improve tasting room operations so that all guests have an enjoyable visit. Both women showed a lot of class and were truly professional their handling and resolving of this situation. When a negative experience results in a positive outcome, it doesn't get any better than that. We do plan to give Gilbert Cellars another chance and take a tour of the winery at our first opportunity. read more

Truly disappointed in how rude we were treated, so we turned around and walked out. Any hospitality establishment that turns away patrons is really quite sad. read more

Drove about 9 miles west of Yakima to visit the Gilbert Cellars Winery at the Hackett Ranch to check the location as a wedding venue for a friend. It was a quick 15-20 minute drive. The property offers nature's beauty every direction you look. Grapes, orchards, lavender and a lush green lawn for blanket/low chair seating for their outdoor live music venue. Their actual tasting room was in the process of an upgrade. We entered the temporary tasting room and as a bonus partook in a tasting. Never tried Gilbert wines and am so excited that we did. Enjoyed every one we tried so much that we ended up joining their wine club and purchased a case of various wines. Due to extreme heat, the bottles could not be shipped to our home and could not be left in our vehicle. Tasting room attendant Tiffany was an absolute delight to meet. She offered to deliver to our hotel in a few days when we were leaving. Thank you Cellars Winery for introducing us to your wonderful wines, location/venue and to Tiffany's hospitality going above and beyond to bring our wine to us. read more

This is "How CoreyG Got His Groove Back". What brought me here is "SALSA THURSDAYS", but what keeps me coming back is the big-city style, lovely libations, and of course, "SALSA THURSDAYS". Situated on the corner of Front & Yakima Ave is a true gem. ::::: UPSTAIRS: The Tasting Room ::::: Here you have a long list of excellent wines to choose from Gilbert Cellars. And if you are not in the mood for vino, there is a noice selection of bottled ales (I especially like how they have brews from nearby Yakima Craft Brewing Company [http://www.yelp.com/biz/yakima-craft-brewing-company-yakima]. And they also have Chimay--and you might know I'm a sucker for ales from Belgium). Although I've not tried any, I've seen some tasty-looking tapas and deserts being prepared (and eaten) by the staff here. The pourers have always been super nice and helpful. One of my favorite features of the Tasting Room is the huge photograph of Gilbert Peak behind the bar. I get lost in that snow-covered peak whenever I'm cooling off from dancing and ordering a drink. ::::: DOWNSTAIRS: Where Magic Happens ::::: The Yakima Salsa Dance Company and Gilbert Cellars started up SALSA THURSDAYS a few months ago, and already it's a total hit (http://www.yakimamagazine.com/2011/07/08/salsa-thursdays/)! Take a walk downstairs and get your dance on. Cover is only $5, and if you get there by 7:30 you can take a free salsa lesson. Then from 8-11pm DJ David takes over and plays some salsa, merengue, bachata, and cumbia. This has already become one of the best places to go for salsa dancing in eastern Washington. The music's great, the people are awesome, and the vibe is chill for everyone from beginners to advanced dancers. It's all good and fun. And when I was starting to get sad about lack of places to go dancing, Gilbert Cellars and the Yakima Salsa Dance Co. saved the day! There is local art adorning the walls, a few fans (it does get super hot down here sometimes, so dress and prep accordingly), and ice water (but if you want something cool, go upstairs and grab a glass of white, or a brew!). read more

Had a positive experience at Gilbert Cellars in downtown Yakima. Gilbert Cellars is a tasting room within a short walk from the downtown Yakima hotels and restaurants. We stopped in before our dinner. Unfortunately, they had stopped their tasting flights for the evening by the time we arrived so we ordered two glasses of wine based on their recommendations. The wines were tasty and we ended up buying a couple of bottles but it would have been nice if their tastings went later into the evening as it wasn't that late yet. read more

This is a very nice tasting room. The host was friendly and knowledgeable and there was just a good vibe. The kind of tasting room I would visit for happy hour and hang out. The best wine I tasted was the 2010 Allobroges. Don't be shy to ask for the pronunciation. This is a great red and I am kicking myself for not buying a bottle. The Riesling is also very good. This is probably one of my top 5 favorite Rieslings. And, since it was 95 degrees out the day I went tasting, so a bottle came home with me and did not last long. Stopped in when we had an hour to spare before our dinner reservations . A fabulous place that was perfect to sit in, listen to great music , and wine taste until our dinner time. I ended up doing the wine flight suggested by Kelly since I wasn't sure what I wanted. I'm sure glad I did. It allowed me to try a little of this and that. Kelly KNOWS her stuff!!!! She was helpful, sweet and informative. I told her what I liked and asked her to choose for me. Per Kelly I ended up trying the 2015, unoaked Chardonnay(in stainless steel), a 2013, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon(90 points) , and a 2013 , 100% Malbec(91 points). The Unoaked Chardonnay was light, refreshing with hints of pear. The Cab Sav was light , oaky with hints of pepper. The Malbec was bold, but smooth. I am more of a red wine drinker so imagine my surprise when I asked to buy the Unoaked Chardonnay! Stop in when in Yakima, you won't be disappointed! read more

Nice space and good wine. I'm a fan of the Estate Syrah and was happy to join their discount club for that alone. Service has been spotty. At times it seems that chatting with the regulars takes priority over prompt service for all. I don't think they're doing it intentionally, but it can still be annoying. The fifth star is reserved for when I get blown away by a place in Yakima. This place has good wine and ambiance, but it's always been completely dead during the week. Hard to understand when Bob's Keg and Cork, Second Street B&G, and others in the area have solid weekday crowds. My husband and I enjoyed our tastings and the information presented by our wine "guide." She did a great job of talking about the region, the grapes, and the land as well as answering our questions. They do charge for tasting but that amount is deducted from the price of a bottle should you purchase and I think that's fair. We liked a couple of their wines and bought a bottle. Gilbert wine is very bad because they make you buy not one but two bottles of wine when you go taste wine unless you pay $10 or $15 to taste. If you have money and don't mind extortion go. We stopped here on the way home to Seattle. Very nice place, modern architecture, nice selection of little bites of food to eat. We did the wine tasting and enjoyed it. The wine tasting is 5.00 and you can pay 3.00 more and add the fancy wines. One nice thing, if you buy a bottle of wine the 5.00 goes toward the purchase. We all did the 8.00 tasting and got four whites and four reds to taste. We all liked all of the wines and we each bought a bottle to take home. read more

This seemed like a cool place - the pourer was nice I guess but he was very stiff and stuffy with us and then as soon as he turned to the couple next to us he started sipping his frappucino and gossiping about some club he was going to and his favorite TV show (The Office). It made us feel a little uncomfortable - we're very laidback people. No need to be uptight with us. They had mentioned that there was "underground" music there but he said it was only on Fridays. I asked if there was somewhere nearby with good music - he directed us to the sportsbar down the street with a huge electric sign of a man swining a rifle around. Um.....No. The wines were decent. Looked like they had good food, but no one offered us a menu or anything. We left feeling kind of rushed, and underwhelmed. read more

Lovely space in Yakima. Gilbert cellars has a modern minimalist decor but still feels warm and inviting. The pourer I met (Lincoln) was friendly and knowledgable, and being the only customer at the time, was very sociable and willing to engage in conversation about the wine, the AVA (American Viticultural Association region), the history of Gilbert Cellars, and more. The interior felt cool while I was there and it took me a while to warm up, so I kept my jacket on most of the time. $5 for tasting the flight of 5 wines. The pourer said that the combination of pours roughly equals one glass of wine. In the pre-selected flight I tried: Reisling, Allobroges (Medium Rhone inspired blend), Syrah, Left, Bank (Bordeaux inspired blend), and Cabernet Sauvignon. Additionally, for $1 / pour, other wines can be sampled. I tried the Pinot Noir, 2009 Reserve, and Tempranillo Port. Each of their wines was delicious in its own way. I took home bottles of both the Allobroges and Left Bank blends, though I wanted to walk away with more including the Reserve and Tempranillo Port, and would have been happy to have any of the single varietals as well! The $5 tasting fee was waived since I purchased wine. From the time they open (around 11am) until 4pm they serve a tapas menu only. I tried and would recommend the bacon-wrapped dates (stuffed with bleu cheese) as well as the baguette with cheese. I think I may have had a chevre from Tieton Farm & Creamery. After 4pm Gilbert Cellars has an expanded food menu. Wine and how it appeals or does not to a person is highly subjective and can depend on many factors that are not in control of the grape grower, wine maker, or even the pourer. What one person would die for, another will despise. I loved their wines, and if you decide to visit, I hope you will too. read more
