I was really hoping I would be able to give this place 5 stars. The atmosphere was really nice . There was laid back decor and cute things to buy so it had a cohesive store type vibe in the front and the tasting room was in the back. It was pretty comfy there and we got a seat at the bar and picked out our flights. I thought their process was great (little sheet of paper that you check off and hand to your server or bartender) and the price for the flights was very reasonable! Service was very quick and they were super nice and attentive. I love wine and mead and I can usually find something that I really enjoy (especially mead) but this place just missed the mark... my husband got his own tasting of 4 completely different meads and out of all 8 that I tasted I really did not like any of them. They did not taste good nor were any "easy to drink". This is really surprising to me because I usually love mead but this just missed the mark. I went to a Girl's Day Out recently and we ended our field trip at this meadery. It's fairly easy to find, a nice size venue, plenty of parking, and they have things to eat and drink for the non-drinkers and designated drivers. Service was outstanding. My group ordered several tasting flights of mead and a tasting flight of honey. While I was the non-drinker, I thoroughly enjoyed watching my friends' delight with the many different meads. We ordered several snacks to share at the table too. The meadery doesn't have a kitchen, but they offer packed snacks like crackers, cheese, prosciutto, nuts, etc. We all also enjoyed the honey flight and several of us went home with a jar or two. They have a few things available for sale as well as the mead and honey. Several of our group left with a bottle or two of their favorite meads. It's really not a place for kids, but for a couple of hours of adult fun, this is a great venue. We all had a blast. read more

I highly recommend a honey/mead tasting here if you are in the area! Coming in, I knew nothing about mead, but the instructor led a fantastic tasting and I came out more excited about honey than I thought possible. In the tasting, we sampled 10+ honeys and 8+ meads. It was great to be able to sample the honey's that the mead was fermented from. The mead sommelier was super knowledgeable not only about the process and flavor notes of the mead, but also gave us fun insights to how each of their bottles got their name. There are guided tastings every hour on the hour but we opted to do a simple flight instead. We were at the back bar and Khaki was so kind and helpful with explaining the way the meads were made and ordering them from dry(er) to sweet(er). There was a huge selection to choose from and it was honestly hard to just choose 4. Our favorite this time around was the seasonal Getting Figgy With It, which has flavors reminiscent of mulling spices. Perfect for the holidays. We did this mead tasting on a whim. We drive by this place quite often and finally stopped in. The tasting consisted of honeys and meads. There were a lot of different options and the tour guide even gave free samples of extra items we were interested in trying. The tours are done in a group setting, not one on one. Afterwards we went to the bar area and continued tasting. Our bartender was absolutely amazing. When we had a question they didn't know the answer to they grabbed the manager, who was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. The bar offered small prepackaged snacks for a decent price. Typically don't fall for join this wine club type thing and most marketing ploys don't impress me. But the manager was extremely genuine and thorough. I've been a member of Silverhand Meadery for ages. I wish I had known about them sooner. This place has vision, is has charisma, and they know how to treat their customers to a fully positive, engaging experience every time, no matter if you're coming for a mead tasting, a members-only event, or just popping by for no real reason. Their meads are delicious, I've not had a bad one ever and a select handful are truly delectable - there's a few I try to always have in stock at the house to share with friends or wow a neighbor. We drive about an hour and twenty minutes to get by there every couple of months and have a great time each time. It's hard to say how they make it all come together in the way they do but they truly make you feel valued and rewarded as a customer and we couldn't help ourselves but to become members on our second visit many years ago now - we didn't even really drink mead at the time. To this day, Silver Hand is the only mead we drink even. Friends know we're members and recommend new meaderies whenever they open up around town and we're just not that interested to even try. Something about Silverhand is just on point every day, every time. Highly recommended. I'm sure we'll be back soon. read more

Fun, different experience glad I took part in. I had never tasted Mead, known as honey wine, before coming here and was super excited to try it as this has been an ancient drink from as long back as 3,000 B.C.E. At $12 a person for a 35 minute tasting experience which includes a variety of mead and honey samplings, I think you get more than a fair share of your moneys worth. But for good reason! You learn quite a bit about honey's the mead process and everything in between. It really is a tour of everything about mead's. We received tasting tickets for this meadery as part of our wine package at the Wedmore place Inn. You have to make reservations as it's small. I think they can handle twelve at a tasting only. It was a mead and honey tasting. It was fun. Although I don't like mead the honey part was great. The mead "sommelier" was funny and did a great job of making mead interesting. I would have never stopped here except it was listed in a brochure of area breweries. But I am very glad I did. I had never had mead before and really didnt know what it was. The mead tasting is free. We did a honey tasting prior to the mead tasting for 6$ and that was interesting. Mark was the guy at the bar and he did a grab job of explaining the various honeys that we tasted and how they made the different meads. Then he lead us through the mead tastings. Great experience at this unique brewery! We loved the tasting with a very knowledgeable lady who first explained in great detail different varieties of honeys offered and then the meads. Masks were worn by all the staff, and there were only four of us touring, so we sat across the bar from the other folks. Plenty of personal space! My daughter was offered crayons and I brought some coloring books for her. I learned a whole a lot about the process of making mead even though it's not a new drink to me. Their varieties are truly extraordinary! I would buy every bottle if I could it, but honestly most meads are considered aperitifs, so I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much. Mead prices range from $19-24 per bottle. My personal favorite was Dream by the Fire (mead brewed with apple cider). Perfect for winter and holidays! read more

Small but friendly place. It has almost a hole-in-the-wall vibe to it, which adds to its charm. I've had mead before, but never really went out of my way to try it. But the stuff I had here was definitely some of the better samples that I had. They also had some cysers (cider and honey mixtures) which I thought were pretty good. My favorites were the coffee cantana and the "Soak up the sun" made with oranges. The mead tasting is free, but you can also (for $6) get a honey sampler. They offer a tasting of 8 meads and a selection of their honeys for a tour every hour on the hour but we wanted to just try a couple of flights and their honeys. I've always been a honey fan, so it's surprising how long it took me to really start enjoying mead. I think Silver Hand Meadery is a great place to start if you're curious at all to try it. While right in the heart of Williamsburg, the meadery isn't too pronounced. The building is small and the parking lots a little hard to maneuver. Don't even try making a left out of the lot. [And if you do, more power to you.] Silver Hand offers both honey tastings and mead tastings...or both (which is what I chose to do). For the honey tasting, you can taste as many as you'd like for a small fee. They're tiny samples on little sticks, so it's not like you're chugging honey. *That* would be weird and probably overpowering, too. During my visit, I tried the Orange Blossom, Blueberry Blossom, Star Thistle, Avocado Blossom, Virginia Wildflower, Alfalfa, Clover, Florida Wildflower, Hampton Roads Wildflower, and Raspberry Blossom. Of those, Star Thistle was my standout favorite, with raspberry blossom coming in second. Make sure to drink water between samples. Based on the names, yes, the honey isn't all from Virginia. They have local suppliers all around that provide the honey. The blueberry one, for example, is from South Jersey (my native land), so that was cool to try. I ended up purchasing four small containers to go ($6 each). They were excellent Christmas gifts for my managers! After completing my tasting (which was a one-to-one tutorial), I walked over to the bar, plopped down, and used my tokens to try five meads. Meads are high ABV so be VERY careful if you're driving. The samples are typically small, which does help, but yeah. I tried: -All Blues (blueberry) -Ginger Me Slowly (you gotta LOVE LOVE ginger to enjoy it) -Dream by the Fire (kinda smokey, as you'd expect) -Strawberry Swing (my clear favorite) -Coffee Cantata (definitely potent) I purchased some bottles to go in addition to the honey. They were having a sale on shirts, too, so I snagged one of them. My merch total added up fast (about $80 pre-accidental $20 tip). Overall I really enjoyed my solo time at the meadery learning about their different products. It's the perfect indoor activity for a chilly day in Williamsburg. My bestie and I took our kids here a few days before Christmas. The kids enjoyed their experience of sampling the different honey. I did too and ended up getting two different jars of honey and a bottle of Meade. Don't worry the kids were pretty occupied with drawing and drinking out of the wine glasses that were full of water while the adult sample the Meade. You can taste the different flavors of honey. Some were distinct, unique but not overpowering. We were with a large group of friends for the event so it was nice. The place is a bit tight with the sample rooms in the back. There was another group there at the same time. The lady who gave us the honey and Meade run down was knowledgeable. They were nice to have us take as many corks home with our purchases. If you love honey and meade or a combination of both then you must check them out. My honey treated me here for my birthday. She made reservations for two, and we were pleased with their COVID precautions. Each couple was separated by more than 6 feet. First we learned about honey (of course) and sampled 8 different varieties. We bought Avocado (purplish and so strong!) and whipped cocoa honey, which tasted so much better than Nutella does. Then we learned about and sampled 8 kinds of mead. We bought the two we liked best: Strawberry Swing and Raspberry Passion. They were the sweetest and most refreshing.
