So I had time before my movie at the AMC Dine in and thought I pop in to try out some meads. Sunday afternoon I had the place to myself and was able to get videos and pictures of the amazing funky decor to go with the drinks. Guys . The Meads are made in house as well. I tried the flight of four but you also have the option of 10 which comes with complimentary nuts. I had to smell each of them before tasting as I do with fine to get the full flavor of each. They are actually celebrating there 4 year anniversary on 10th! My guide was amazing she walked through each drink, gave her recommendations of the menu. Razz actually delivers here if you want food options so don't come hungry unless you don't mind ordering in! Today they closed at 2-230 but I hadn't over plans anyway. Small funky place to try a lot of good Meads. Not too many places serve these so a welcome addition to Midlothian. The bar tender was extremely knowledgeable and talked us through options. No food service here but can order from great restaurant next door (Taza Kitchen). read more

Every once in a while Steve and I like to take a departure from our craft beer adventures and try some other route for alcoholic beverages. Usually that winds up being cider but on occasion we go the mead route. It's always a nice change of pace for sure! Funktastic Meads is the latest meadery we got to try. All in all it wasn't too bad. We had some of the Funktastic Fizz : Apple Goo. This mead had the shade of close to a nuclear green hue which definitely grabs your attention for sure. Of course the most dominant flavor is apple here. The body of the mead is soft like many meads. Some stellar meads we have had in the past really focus on subtlety and the flavor complexity but I didn't quite pick up on that as much with this particular mead outing. But regardless it was a fun mead to drink and a nice departure from the craft beer adventuring. read more

This was my second time coming here - & I can't recommend it highly enough! I just wish it was closer to me in Richmond but it's always such a treat when I come out here. They have unique & rotating flavors that are delicious. In general it's a great place just to hangout too as there are a variety of games to play too. The prices are very reasonable too. read more

Heather and Matt were awesome! Highly knowledgable and experienced in their craft. For $37 we were able to taste about 10 different meads in so many styles! I've misunderstood mead for the longest time, usually experiencing coiling sweet notes and terrible hangovers. Matt's background in beer brewing shows in his portfolio of flavors. Rootbeer tasting mead? He's got you! Flavors rotate out every few weeks so we will definitely be back. Funktastic is AWESOME! Matt, the owner is a super nice guy and he's very passionate about what he does and you can tell when you try his meads. He's very creative and always pushing the envelope with new flavors and cool names to match them. Everyone here is super hospitable. They have a couple of snacks available for purchase but they also offer online ordering in partnership with Tazza Kitchen two doors down, who will deliver it straight to the bar! iTools friend to check out Funktastic Meads because we both like honey. The mead tender helped us narrow down the flavors we liked. He gave us a couple of samples based on our flavor profile and desired sweetness. We both found ones we liked and proceeded to order our drinks. My friend from SC liked the mead so much, she got a bottle to take home. This was a unique place to bring out of town guests or to have a get together. There is seating at the bar-definitely recommend for your first time so you can ask about the meads on tap.. They have a variety of tables, chairs and sofas or loveseats and outdoor seating. I got a chance to try meads from Funktastics at the Powhatan Festival of the Grapes and I was blown away. I had no idea that wine could be made from honey. The owners where so amazing and they gave details about each mead they had available to taste that day. All of the meads were good and I was so impressed that I had to buy a glass of their "Smells Like Strippers". Don't let the name fool you it was amazing. I taste like a smoothe tropical adult punch on ice. They invited us to visit their location so we can enjoy more of their varieties. I will definitely be going to their location so I can provide my 2nd impression review. If you are curious about meads or you already know about meads I definitley recommend to try them out. I use the UnTappd app a lot when it comes to finding breweries. Surprisingly, Meaderies are well represented on this app even though they're not breweries and I don't know why. Meaderies are well represented in the top 10 in the US actually which I feel is a bit unfair to breweries and people using the app to locate breweries as Mead and traditional wine are more similar than Mead and beer. Anyway, this establishment ranks in the top 10 or 20 in the nation on UnTappd so I had to try it out. The location is in a strip plaza and pretty cool when you walk in with all the cool Anime artwork. The service and clientele were great and the owner (wife) was extremely knowledgeable. Came here to celebrate my birthday with my family and we had an amazing experience! The server went above and beyond. He explained the different options to us, answered all my questions about what contains certain ingredients due to food allergies, and even gave me a birthday pour! On top, the place is a whole vibe. Great meadery with friendly knowledgeable staff, chill vibes with stellar classic rock playlist with rotating mead flavors of all varieties and interesting flavor combos. The best one we tried was the ipa hop infused called "is that a hop rocket in your pocket?". The green apple tasted like a jolly rancher! They also partnered with their neighbor Tazza kitchen where you can order dinner or snacks and Tazza will walk it down to you while you enjoy your mead. This place has a pretty cool aesthetic and I really like that you can hang out and grab a mead while enjoying a pizza that Tazza Kitchen will bring over for you, or you can grab some friends and play trivia over a flight of mead, or even have a glass of mead while taking a charcuterie class! I love that there are always new flavors to try and when you find something amazing (like the cantaloupe and coconut mead!!!), you can grab some cans or bottles to take home. We have been here a handful of times now and I have no intention of stopping. The staff is great too, you can tell they all love what they do and are eager to tell you about what fruit or special type of honey went into making this mead or that one. Wow, I'm blown away by how bad these are. I purchased 4 bottles and 1 was decent and the others were very bad. I believe the creators of these meads need to take more time working on their craft. The honey flavor is overpowering in the majority of the meads I've tasted here. It feels like the art of creating a good mead was lost in creative names and labels. In comparison to other meads I've had I truly believe these could be better if given more time and effort into the quality of the product. Especially at this price point. read more

They have snacks but are working with the restaurant 2 doors down (Tazza's) who has awesome food and walks it down to you.
