We found ourselves 'peckish' & in White Rock... fancied a snack... dropped in unannounced to Silver Dragon, next to an Indian 'buffet', which didn't resonate on the day... Our experience: Super friendly and lovely owners and staff. Tidy comfortable room. Tasty DELICIOUS green tea in the pot. ...prompt boiling H2O refills. Ginger beef dish on the sweet side for us and the noodle dish was barely okay, so clearly the food wasn't the star of the show. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our lunch and meeting lovely kind people. At this price point, nothing to complain about vis a vis wots out there when dining out in the Vancouver megalopolis. Not a 'destination' restaurant imho, a neighbourhood takeaway biz ?

This is my first visit to the Silver Dragon and I must say, the food was WONDERFUL! Three of us each ordered from the menu for 1 (your choice of 3 items) as well as a side dish (yes, we took PLENTY home). Everything tasted fresh and oh my, it was filling! The service was exceptional, served by, I assume, the owner. She was very polite, prompt and very efficient.. I would definitely order different items the next time I go simply to try different items on the menu. Everything that we ordered was very well prepared. We arrived at 1pm (their opening time), but they do have a buffet that is available after 4:30pm ( $14.95, I believe).

This restaurant offers great tasting, authentic chinese at a good price. Wonton soup is awesome! Don't sleep on trying them out.

worst Chinese food I ever eaten....no taste...doughy and mushy. Very disappointing as it was to be our New Year's eve family treat for 2011!

Dropped in here for lunch…read more The decor was clean and modern, but there was some packaging lying around on the front tables. I ordered the cucumber salad and seafood fried rice with XO sauce, as well as tea. The tea came first, with a very nice Western style porcelaib pot and cup and saucer. Elegant! The cucumber salad had an interesting dressing, slightly sweet, but with a healthy amount of garlic. Somehow, for me, it worked. The cucumber was very fresh and served as a nice neutral base to build the flavors on. I was warned when I ordered the fried rice that it was spicy. Well, it was slightly tingly, but nothing major for my tastes. The rice was soft and loose and flavourful. Surprised by what looked like short grain rice. The rice came with some kind of whitefish, shrimp, and scallops. Also very finely diced red and green peppers, carrots, and onions. It was very flavorful, the seafood was very fresh and perfectly cooked, and tasty without being salty. I got a refill of hot water for my tea without asking, which was very appreciated. Price for one person was a bit high, but portions were large enough for sharing between two, and compared to other prices on the White Rock Beach, this wasn't too bad. A good spot for some good Chinese good!

The location across from the beach was enjoyable and relaxing. The only thing keeping me from give five star was the lack of servers.. only one person was doing mostly anything.. so the service was very slow.. but still way worth the wait.

So. If you aren't into very authentic Northern Chinese food, this will be a hard sell. The place…read moreis a little dark, service can be on the slower side, and there's not a lot of English. If you're not scared, read on. We went here for dinner and did not need a reservation - the name in and of itself is probably a bit of a turnoff, but don't let it stop you. There was no wait, but you can also make reservations if you are so inclined. It has only a bit of decor and could use better lighting, but the place is pretty small comparatively. We were able to sit immediately and were greeted with tea (you have to request water). We got apps - spring rolls and wontons in spicy sauce. Let me tell you. The spring rolls were HOT - everything that comes out is freshly off the wok so be careful or you'll burn your mouth - but that's really the best part of those. Nothing to write home about. The wontons, however, are a dish I'd order four of and just eat as a meal. Definitely worth getting. For mains, we got the stir fried beef with cumin and the shredded pork with chili and garlic sauce. I can see why they're some of the more popular dishes, although the beef was a bit more onion heavy than I would have liked. they are spicy Sichuan style, but not too spicy that you don't get the other flavors. Also, the "spicy sauces" are a bit more spice than just spicy - like there's star anise and cinnamon and other "spiceful" flavors, and it's one of my favorite things. If you have one of the servers that speaks English pretty well, you should ask if the meat has bones in it so you aren't surprised when it comes out. Rice is $3 and that feels a bit eyeroll, but we did end up with leftovers, and can make rice at home. We plan to go back to try other things - maybe not the very adventurous stuff on the menu - but definitely some of the other dishes.

Enjoyed the deep fried spare ribs, clams with soup, fried rice, and their spicy lamb. They're all…read morevery good! Enjoy my first time here. And may I add the price is amazing considering you're front of the ocean!

Three strikes against this place. The bad health department report is a serious initial concern. No…read moresurprise though as this restaurant had other significant deficiencies that make it not good for the customer. Went in on a cold day and it was absolutely freezing, or at least felt that way. One other customer was dining bundled up in a winter coat. Ridiculous. They must be trying to save money to not run the heat. Sooooo cheap and a miserable way to treat customers. They also are cheap using cheap dark meat chicken thigh in most chicken dishes like sesame chicken. The experience sucked, and I did not want any more bad surprises, so I left and went somewhere else. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal, you may want to look somewhere else. Pass. Maybe if enough of these poor quality restaurants in this area run themselves out of business, something better can come later.

This is quite a little gem tucked away on Russell Avenue in White Rock. The restaurant itself is…read moreplain and basic; I think the red checkered table covering deterred my husband and I from trying it out earlier since we frequently walked by the restaurant. We normally drive out to Richmond to have Chinese food; we were both pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meal. We had a couple of the warm appetizers and a Seafood with silken tofu Hot Pot. The appys were fine; the hot pot was delicious with a nice variety of seafood including fish slices, squid and prawns. The silken tofu was lightly deep fried giving it a nice textured skin, the tofu remained silky and tasty. Best of all, it came to the table piping hot. The seasoning was perfect and not overly salty as most Chinese restaurants. The service was friendly and attentive; we spoke to the owner briefly; she is very proud of her little eatery. We plan to return soon to try the lamb dish with cumin the next table obviously enjoyed and other traditional Shanghainese dishes!
