We stopped here for breakfast after visiting Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. It is very convenient as it just down the road from the Cemetery. The breakfast menu has A LOT of items to choose from. We ordered the Florentine Benedict, the Biscuits and Gravy, a side of bacon, and the Country Fresh Eggs breakfast. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the service was quick and friendly. Needed a nice hearty meal after a long day and this spot did not disappoint! It was close to closing time so I wasn't sure what to expect. It wasn't too busy.. just a few other tables were occupied (ended up getting pretty busy as I was leaving) I was seated quickly and took some time to check out the menus.. couldn't decide if I wanted dinner or breakfast lol The waitress was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap with fries and a bowl of stuffed pepper soup. Everything was so tasty and fresh! I couldn't finish and took home leftovers. I recommend taking the extra ride to Joliet or Shorewood for breakfast. 2 of us arrived mid day on Saturday to 6 tables there and a party in the back room. (Separate server was taking care of the party) For some reason there was only 2 servers working the floor and 2 or 3 others were sitting at the counter rolling silverware without tables. Anyways, our server got our drink orders and dropped them off. Told us she'd be back to get our food order even though we were ready. She had what I'm guessing is a regular sit behind us, talked to him for awhile. Got his drink, came back and got his food order, and then decided to come back to us for our order. I wanted oatmeal with strawberries & blueberries and asked for a boiled egg, but she just said " the cooks won't do that for you, they'll make you an over easy egg ". I don't know why I'd want over easy if I wanted a fully cooked egg, I ordered over hard. Boyfriend ordered banana walnut pancakes and sides. Server came back to ask if he wanted whipped cream on his pancakes awhile later. Once we received our food, I had oatmeal with bananas & strawberry glaze. Boyfriend had pancakes with strawberry glaze & whipped cream. Other servers filled the coffee and took our plates, but we never saw our server again. Well we did, she talked to another regular across the room for the entire duration we ate and finished our meal. I got up and asked the host to cash us out as we never got the chance to have our bill. Disappointed, honestly. As for the restaurant itself, I feel bad for those koi with so many in a small tank & cloudy water. Walked out with hash browns that weren't even apart of our order stuck to the bottom of my shoes. We have been here a couple of times since we moved to the area and the food was edible, but not out of this world, but what do you expect from a small town restaurant? What irritated us on our last visit. There is a sign when you first walk in to wait to be seated which we respected even though there was only one customer in the restaurant which the waitress was talking to. She looked over at us a couple of times during her conversation but that was the only acknowledgment we got so we left after standing there waiting for over 10 minutes. We thought apparently they didn't need the business nor did she need the tips, she got enough tips from her one customer. Great food, wonderful value for the price, exceptional and compassionate service and a wide variety of menu items to choose from. We stopped here after remembering our dear one at the Lincoln National Veterans Cemetery, so it was an emotional day. It was like the staff here understand what you might be going through and serve with much care. From the time we entered this restaurant to the minute we left, we felt warmly welcomed and appreciated. I enjoyed a delicious burger that tasted like chopped steak. The soup and rolls with our orders were a meal in itself. The BLT soup with spinach was so good! Our lovely servers were very sweet and patient with my mother-in-law who is 90 and very hard of hearing. They gave us containers and bags for anything we had leftover. Great experience. Their panaceas are fluffy and smooth. No syrup was needed due to the sweetness of the toppings. My little girl had the Children's Funfetti pancakes. I had a bite and wowzas! These things were sweet. I haven't had a bad meal, even though I've eaten there numerous times. The buffalo wings are excellent, as are the cheese sticks (just make sure that you ask for them on the crispy side.) The skirt steak and burgers are also very good. We used to love this restaurant but the last two times we've been there have been very disappointing. They have had some turnover among the kitchen staff so that's partly to blame. However, the wait staff is not as effective as they once were. Last night we watched our waitress socialize with the only other people in the restaurant while our food sat under the heat lamp. When she finally did check on our food, she found a mistake in one of our orders and had the chef remake the dish. The other order sat on the counter for that entire time. When both orders were delivered, the one that sat on the counter was tough. Even the gravy had turned to rubber. We have given them a second chance but things didn't improve. We'll now wait a couple more months before giving them yet another chance. This turn of events is sad because they used to be excellent. We hope they can turn things around. read more

Nice Route 66/Car themed restaurant in a small town outside of Joliet. The restaurant is located in a newish strip mall built off of HWY 53. It is big inside, with lots of space and high ceilings so nothing feels cramped or loud. Everything is driving themed but it is not over the top. In fact it could look a little more like a 'garage' with seeming tacky. We were seated quickly and the staff made recommendations for a couple of dishes that they are known for. Overall the service was quick and professional. The waitresses brought water and coffee around often. The only down side was that our waitress didn't realize we didn't like one of the meals until it was too late to do anything about it. We ordered pancakes with sausage, a Monte Cristo sandwich, and a steak salad. The pancakes were the best of the three dishes. Big, fluffy pancakes with a big dollop of butter! The Monte Cristo was served on French Toast style bread and was not very appetizing. What he saw on the menu didn't really match up to what he got. My friend ate most of the salad and liked the balsamic dressing. Everything was served on nice looking dishes - in other words it wasn't 'diner-ware'. Excellent restaurant in Elwood. It's only a mile or so North of the Lincoln National Cemetery. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner until 9pm. This was my third visit here. The first time was for a funeral luncheon for my dads funeral who is buried at the Lincoln National Cemetery. The funeral luncheon was held in a private room and done family style. The food was great, lots of it. We were even given leftovers to take home. Service was spot on too. Next was a ride down Rt. 66 and breakfast with breakfast here first. Third time was for lunch on a Sunday to visit the cemetery again. The service has always been great here. Their meals are huge and sandwiches for lunch include a bowl, yes bowl of soup and fries. I was pleasantly surprised with Silver Dollar. It was clean well decorated and had friendly staff. My wife an I split an omelette, hash browns, and biscuits & gravy. The hash browns were the best, nice and crispy. The omelette was pretty standard. The biscuits and grave were ok. The color/presentation was not appetizing, the biscuit seemed store bought. I am giving the Silver Dollar restaurant 5 stars for great service and value of the food for the price. First off, the customer service for setting up my Dad's funeral luncheon was amazing. They were very accommodating for our large family in their banquet room. Second, the waitstaff tolerated our somewhat demanding large Italian family and provided everything we needed and the food met everyone's expectations. It felt comfortable and relaxed but the quality was very good. The truly amazing thing is one year later a few of my siblings and I came back for lunch after visiting my Dad's gravesite at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, and the waitress, Jenny, asked how my mom was doing! She remembered us and that just blew me away. Our lunch (some of us had breakfast) was really tasty just as we remembered it and I will of course be back.
