If I could give zero stars I would! I am an Elite reviewer on Yelp, I have never given 1 star before but this place needs to be shut down. Seven of us went in for dinner, three out of seven ordered 1/2 chicken dinner. All 3 dinners had pieces of chicken pink and bloody, yes bloody! We Called the waitress over she said she would let the manager know (she didn't even want to touch the chicken). Well the managers excuse was it has a timer the timer went off so chicken is done there is no way to know if it is done & instead of giving them new chicken since the plate is now contaminated she wanted to just throw that piece back in the fryer with the chicken that the breading is already gone- so we asked for a new piece. I mean the least you can do serving is raw chicken. And hasn't the restaurant heard of a thermometer that's how you check if the chicken is done! I would think that a place that is supposed to be known for their fried chicken would know how to cook fried chicken. So my husband had ate the soup that came with his dinner because he thought he was gonna be eating a fried chicken dinner and you know that they charged him four dollars for that chicken when they never rectified his chicken being raw. So he ate nothing he was so aggravated with the manager, who is the owner's wife sitting there arguing with him about this raw chicken on his plate I mean, totally absurd. We were looking for nothing extra. The manager continue to argue with us because I could not believe she was charging us four dollars for his soup. I mean, the man didn't even get a meal! I've never in my life seen such a raw chicken. Served me at a restaurant. The manager was completely rude. She did not want to help us. She did not even say sorry. If you want a meal like that in Wilmington, I strongly suggest going to Wilmington family restaurant instead. There was so much more to this we just couldn't even believe it was happening. I mean to say that oh we don't know when the chicken is done and then she said it's not like I could cut into every piece yeah that's where the thermometer comes in. I asked to speak to the owner and quickly was told that that is the manager's husband so that's gonna go nowhere. I'm just forewarning. You do not eat here by all accounts. Do not eat here. Oh and I had ordered a half slab of ribs and they came to my table half of them ice cold I sent them back and they microwave them. That's what I thought was bad at first, but the raw chicken became the worst! DO NOT EAT HERE! To serve raw chicken and then sit there and argue with the customer! read more

Went here for some support, after a day at work and then for a visitation for a dearly departed. Wasn't the most luxurious looking place, but its better than some divey diners - but, the tables and chairs were many, washrooms were clean, and it was otherwise good and functional. This is not a complaint, just an observation. I think I heard nothing but positive comments on what other people had, but for me, I had rice chicken soup (I think), a diet coke, and chicken quesadillas, all of which were tasty, hot, and very good - it was a meal that satiated me, a first in a long while, especially eating Factor 75 meals on a regular basis, so a needed break. Breakfast looks like it has lots of potential - I think one of the patrons here had a good and hearty breakfast for dinner, and loved it! Service was great - Sheila (I think that is her name) was a darling. She served us well, was very friendly, and things worked out great for everyone at our tables. Though my meal did not cost a whole not (its relatively cheap here, AFAIK) I still gave her a very nice tip (I think above 40%). She also took care of all of us from the visitation service, which is about, I think more than 30 people. Sheila and the staff took it without missing a beat. Also, plenty of parking on both sides of the property. A keeper, and I would come back when in town! read more

Among the better choices to eat in Wilmington is this family restaurant with country style favorites. Chick-A-Dee is a longtime hangout for locals. It has a pretty basic menu. Few healthy choices. There's not much to eat for vegetarians. It often is pretty quiet inside even at breakfast and lunch. Maybe it has seen better days but it always seems pretty quiet. The staff often outnumber the customers it seems. Among the features is a bar. It's about $5 for a cocktail. This is the best reason to come here. As for the food it's average. They have lots of fattening and greasy stuff. Among the few healthy items is a Greek Salad that isn't bad. It's $9.95 for a pretty small portion with lots of stuff. This comes with anchovies, black kalamata olives, cucumbers, feta, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Leave out the anchovies. The salad is pretty good even when leaving out these. A pretty overall good place for basic food. It also has a bar so get a drink with the popular items like fried chicken or something healthier like a salad. I'm giving 3 stars only because the server and the service was 5 star. The food in my opinion was just blah, at least mine was. It's a quiet little family diner, only a handful of people dining at 1pm. My husband chose this place as he wanted breakfast. I actually had to review the menu for about 10 minutes as nothing appealed to me. My husband got one of the breakfast skillets, he must of liked it as he ate almost all of it. Looked like a lot of food. I ordered the open faced roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. It came with your choice of soup, I picked the creamy cauliflower, which was very good, highly recommend this one. Potatoes were creamy and just basic potatoes, they tasted like instant. The roast beef, I was not a fan of. From the very first bite I noticed it had a weird taste. After eating a few bites and looking at it closer I realized it was Italian beef meat, which would of been fine if I had ordered the Italian beef sandwich. It left a bad taste in my mouth and stomach upset. When I'm expecting a yummy roast beef and instead I get Italian beef it is very disappointing. If you're looking for just simple basic food and good service then you'll like this place. Otherwise I'd choose something else. read more

I met up with friends for breakfast on a weekday. While the restaurant may not be all sparkly and new, it was certainly clean and friendly. I ordered coffee, a spinach & feta omelet with hash browns and dry toast. Upon the foods arrival, it was clearly not like some of the fancy restaurants closer to Chicago where you get a huge omelet which it's nearly impossible to eat in one sitting. Rather it was a slimmed-down version. At first, I was visually disappointed, but it made up for it in taste. There was spinach and feta in every bite. Not only that, but it was the right amount of food, I left full but not stuffed. The waitress did a great job, checking in with us for beverages right away, and stopping back for our order, and later to make sure everything was good. read more

While staying in Wilmington, IL for a few days my family has eaten here twice once for dinner (a couple of days ago) and this morning for breakfast. For Dinner, I had the fried chicken which was outstanding. Big portion and juicy white meat, not dry at all. My wife had a grilled sandwich (can't recall which) which she said was good and our daughter had breakfast (skillet and a side order of cinnamon French toast which was also excellent. For Breakfast I had biscuits & gravy and the Gypsy skillet w/eggs over easy. The skillet was excellent but the biscuits/gravy was terrible. The gravy was fine but the biscuits were very doughy...only ate a couple bits. Wife had the cinnamon French toast which she liked and the daughter had the 2-2-2. Two eggs, two bacon and pancakes which was also good. In fact they gave her an extra egg and piece of bacon...very nice of them to do that. read more

We moved to the area in late 1989 from the western suburbs. Since that time we have come to know the owners and their children and grandchildren. At one point in our lives we were accused of having the only home in Wilmington that did not have a kitchen. We even had our own table. My wife was a finicky eater yet she always found something she liked. Myself I'm more of a northern Restuurant experience. After over 30 years we have seen changes in the Resturant, employees,family,menu and get we look forward to coming knowing we will get what we order and it will be good. One down side is don't try to modify orders, they simply are not set up that way. It will only add to the cost of your dining experience. Welcome to life South of Route 80. Now here is the dirty little secret...in my opinion the absolute best meal for the buck is their Lives and Onions! This from a Nebraska farmboy that the mere look at liver made me want to hurl! Went to dinner tonight ordered a baked potato when it got to the table it had a bug in it so I requested a new one. They say it was a new potato but it also had a bug in it. I ordered French fries instead.... By the time I got them the rest of my meal was cold and so were the fries. We have been loyal customers but not any more. When we told the manager she told me nothing is free and I have a bad attitude. I'm sorry but you served me bugs and cold fries! I often frequent Chick-A-Dee while visiting my grandmother. The food is really good here. I have had a variety of different meals here which include the cheeseburger, buffalo chicken wrap and the gyros sandwich and have not been disappointed. They offer soup with many meals that is equally as good. Soup not your thing? There is an all you can eat salad bar for a few dollars more and is great! One thing to keep in mind is that fries do not come with the meal and are extra, but this explains the really low prices when viewing the menu. The staff there is very friendly and prompt. My drinks are always filled and plates are always removed quickly all while maintaining a great and positive attitude. The decor really needs to be updated but in an odd sort of ways, gives the place charm and character. All and all, I enjoy coming to this establishment and plan on coming back. read more

I ordered two roast turkey tom dinners that should have been 8.99 each and i got charged a little over thirty dollars and it happened everytime when i got other prior numerous orders to go before that were different meals. On a positive note the food is good, excellent ribs, and the owners are friendly. The staff is weird and socially awkward. I asked for a Coke and she served me a Pepsi with out telling me that's all they had. I guess the pasta was ok. The sauce to noodle ratio was terrible way to much sauce and not in a good way.The bowl was shaped weird. They put a whole onion on my gyro. Cooking mama would be disgusted. They only gave us three straws instead of four so I guess they are saving the turtles. The bathroom was at least clean,but there was some weird thing on the toilet. Heard about the chicken as well....it is the same chicken that ALL the local restaurants get....frozen from FOX RIVER FOODS-as well as a lot of their 'sided'...so nothing is freshly breaded by any means. the second visit i did order the fried chicken....it was re cooked leftovers from earlier-or just very over cooked PERIOD-but it was nastyl-the cocktails were tasty but we felt RUSHED to get out when we barely ate half our meal....it wasn't like they needed the table-80% of the place was empty. the 'decor' is very dated...felt like you're trapped in the 70's and you almost expect Alice from the BRADY BUNCH to be working there read more

Worked here for almost a year as a waitress. Loved my clientelle but the back kitchen staff was a nightmare. No reason a married woman with grown children should have bus boys and kitchen staff grabbing me and rubbing up against me in the galley.The other waitresseses seem to think this is ok... they obviously have never waited tables outside of Will Co. and will put up with anything. When I told the owners about the situation they told me to just calm down and deal with how things worked at their establishment. It's been over ten years since setting foot in here because of previous gross disappointment.. Not near long enough. From a bland, tasteless fish sandwich, to the exceptionally awful corn beef on greazy rye. I prefer my grilled sandwich to be cooked on a clean grill, not have mystery splotches on it, and the cabbage was mushy overly vinegared. blech Ate the meat and left everything else. Had either the waitress or the owner asked how our meal was, I would have told them whilst paying for a unsatisfying lunch. But they did not ask,so I offer my opinion to diners who care about quality and service. This place still does not have my endorsement. Edit: totally forgot because I couldn't believe it. As I am driving away, the kitchen help was standing in the dumpster looking for something. One guy with hat and apron walking IN the dumpster and the other two with aprons outside the dumpster all looking at me looking at them at the dumpster with their kitchen gear on. This is by far the worst place we have ever eaten! The waitress was not very pleasant from the start. We are not the kind of people to really complain and neither me or my husband has ever sent food back before. But the food we had was literally inedible! I had the hot beef and gravy w/ mashed potatoes. Horrible is not even the word! It was just some sliced lunch meat which was still cold. The gravy was very salty and aweful. I had to send it back, it was that bad! I then just asked for eggs and potatoes. I figured how hard is it to mess up eggs!? Well, it must be for them! They were barely cooked. The top of the eggs were were still raw, runny and cold. When I said the eggs weren't cooked enough and still cold and raw on top she said "they are sunny side up eggs, that's how they're supposed to be!" Very snotty. I wanted to say, Ummm, I think we know how eggs are cooked lady! We were never rude once speaking to the waitress as we knew she doesn't cook the food. My husband had the French dip, something he has had very often at other places, he barely choked it down. It was the same meat that was on my plate. There was also a hair on his pickle. Even the fries were bad. The only one good thing was the soup, chicken noodle. The waitress took my first order off the ticket. Then when we checked check out the hostess asked how everything was and I said horrible. The first time I've ever said that! But it was that bad. She asked what we had and what was wrong and we told her. "Oh, sorry about that, is this the first time you've ever been here?" She asked. We said yes it was. She still charged us for everything!
