We were meeting friends at Hayden's Crossing last night and this was my first time here. I at first thought they were mistaken and that the place wasn't open at all - it was so strange sitting in the street looking right at it and there was no way to tell if it was open. No signage, no lights, nothing. So, we thought maybe if we walked to the door there might be a sign that they'd moved and we could go look to find out. When we walked to the door it says "Use other door!" So...the other door is a bar next to it. Does it mean that?? There I go and walk into the door down the sidewalk and sure enough, the 2 are connected. But still, from the outside you would never know either of them were: 1. Open 2. Connected Weird. It must be a local thing. We went inside and it was SO COOL! Totally old stone walls and old wood that felt like I was in a saloon and restaurant from the 1800's. Except for the kids carving into the booths, of course. They serve steaks and seafood, sandwiches and really creamy, cheesy mac n cheese! I had the Delmonico Ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. My hubby had a steak he loved and our friends had shrimp skewers and another steak. They were served with fresh side salads, homemade soups, fresh green beans steamed and bread w/butter. Poorly managed. Literally spent 2.5hrs in there trying to get a meal. The poor bartender was all alone working with young kids that did not want to help.. no bus boy - no bar back .. literally had no glasses left behind the bar dirty dishes and glasses piled all over. No meal should take 2 hrs to cook literally had a the chicken special which on most places is a quarter or half a chicken nope not here it was a simple breast and a soup(out of) or salad and a side. That same breast was in menu for cheaper and my friend had chicken wrap. No way does it take to hrs. For the amount you charge you really need to adequately staff your establishment. If the youngsters don't want to work fire them. read more

I tried to go online so I could contact the restaurant personally. I love going to this restaurant and I was there last night and ordered the southwest chicken wrap which had humongous chunks of ham in it. Now it does say it does have ham in the dish but there was more ham than chicken and I'm not a ham fan. It should have been called the Southwest ham wrap. For the first time in a long time I was very disappointed. Not saying this to degrade the restaurant just wanting someone to acknowledge that whatever happened with the southwest chicken wrap should not be repeated again. read more

We used to love coming here. The burgers were always so delicious and the staff was so nice. I don't know what happened. We went with a group of friends and only one of us actually liked the food. One of us ordered the pub house burger well done and it was practically raw and had NOTHING on it. Just a meat patty and cheese that they charged us seventy five cents for. The grilled cheese on "sour dough" bread was only a piece of cheese with a slice of bacon. Nothing else. One of us ordered shrimp and it was so salty they couldn't even eat it. Between the absolutely terrible food and unfriendly waitress that couldn't be bothered we will never be returning. read more

Tonight, we met up with our friends for dinner at Hayden's Crossing. I was surprised that we were the only customers. The bartender was very friendly and it ended up that I worked with her late father-in-law many years ago. We had a nice conversation. She served us our drinks, which were all perfect. She served us our appetizers and they were all delicious. She served our dinners, and they were all delicious. We absolutely loved our decision to meet for dinner at Hayden's Crossing. The appetizers were great. The Soup and Salads were great. My buddy loved the Pork Chop. His wife loved the Salmon. My wife loved the Honey Garlic Chicken and I loved the Steak Sandwich. The Wild Rice was disappointing because it was very dry and bland. I feel a Yellow Rice with Lemon Butter would be much better. But everyone agreed that we will be coming back to again. I brought in my team for a retirement luncheon. We hit the door shortly after 11:00 am, and it's a good thing - by the time we left, the place was packed. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, and everyone liked them. The salsa for the chips was pretty hot. The orders for the lunch ranged from a steak to a bunch of burgers. Everyone liked what they got, and the food was served hot and cooked to the requested temperature. The service was polite and prompt - drinks were kept filled, as was the water. Good for a bar but the kitchen needs a new cook. Food is just below basic. 16$for corn beef dinner on st.Patrick's day and I got four slivers of beef handful of baby carrots and butter, four potatoes with a lil scoop of cabbage. As far as seasoning this is a salt only (maybe) oh ya and a bite of soda bread (best thing in the dinner). Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone that's hungry. Back in the mid 90's I was more or less banned from Wilmington for behavior that seems childish now but back then seemed vital and important. Anyway, I have been able to sneak back in a few times in recent years, and each time I go to Hayden's Crossing. I go because the burgers are excellent, their semi-famous wedge salad is the best, and I am a huge fan of reclaimed barnwood. The space has been described as 'rustic' by other Yelpers and yeah, it's all of that. The front street of Wilmington is as old as anything you will find in the 815, and that includes Hayden's floor. Much of the interior was brought in from other torn down structures, and yet it doesn't seem musty or dingy. I just love going there. Yesterday I had a great Delmonico ribeye with real mashed potatoes (as opposed to 'whipped' like you might get at a Golden Corral or some place like that). Chops are also a specialty. It is largely pub food but everything is made from scratch, not from a frozen box from the local food service. Drinks are nice and yes there is the Blind Mule which connects both in front and in back. I've never really had to wait to be seated but if you did, you can hang out at the bar. Somebody mentioned that from the front, the place looks closed. I do agree. The main parking is in back, and the hostess station is therefore located at the back. You cannot part on the side of the street Hayden's is on, but you can street park going the other way. Yes, the front of the place looks authentically as much as it has for the last 150 years. But there should be something made for the front face of the place so that visitors not familiar with Wilmington or Hayden's are made aware that yes, this really is the place and it really is open. Nothing gaudy, but noticeable and welcoming. read more

our waitress was super rude from the first minute she greeted our table. She brought out the same order that was incorrect twice. All the glasses on the table were empty and we still had to ask for refills. And this is the the first thime this has happened with the same waitress but it is the last time we will not be going back.super bad attitudes obviously whoever owns that place is never there and don't care about it's reputation. read more

I had never been to Hayden's Crossing or even heard of it until I saw a picture of their maple bacon cake on Facebook. I knew I had to try it. I went on Saturday evening, had a nice dinner and found out they had sold out of the maple bacon cake. I was really disappointed. However, I was able to get the cake this evening. It was definitely worth the wait. It is decadent and so unique with the combination of maple and bacon. The food is good, the staff is friendly, helpful and polite. The cake is sinfully delicious. I went to write a second review for Hayden's when I noticed I didn't finish the first one from when we where there in July 2013. We took a motorcycle ride and was heading through Wilmington when we where getting hungry. After stopping to get a photo by the Gemini Giant I searched Yelp and found Hayden's. We parked on the road but it looks like there is parking in the back. We got there around 2:00 and the lunch crowd was just clearing out and had to wait for a table to be cleared. But that gave us time to check out the the cool decor. Very cool old building. The waitress was friendly and helpful. We split the house burger and it was big enough to share and very tasty. We substituted onion rings for the fries and they where as good as I have ever had. We ride out this way a lot and am look forward to coming back. For the meal we shared I would give 5 stars. Today (early November) we went back with our daughter. We kept telling her how great out first time was. We had a good waitress. That was the best thing. When we walking in the back door there was a bad sewer smell. Is wasn't as bad in the dining room but it was still there a little. I had the house burger medium. Wife had fish and chips. Daughter had fettuccine. Everything was just meh, at best. The burger was more rare than I like eating out. It was closer to rare than medium rare and i ordered it medium. It was okay but nothing that great. I got the wedges and didn't care for them, for some reason my wife got them with her fish and chips. She didn't like them either. They were like mashed potatoes inside. Real mushy. The fish was okay, but my wife said she wouldn't get it again. The fettuccine had no flavor. The bread was good though. If this was my first time here I would just give it 1 star. I'm giving 3 stars because of the great meal we had the first time. read more

Love this place either for a beverage or two or for the awesome food. The steak sandwich is my favoritebut the burgers are incredible and the soups are made from scratch every day. You never know what the soup will be because it depends on what they have fresh that day. Great food, I'm glad we have a place like this in Wilmington. Back in the day Hayden's was the first place to open in Wilmington that was actually good food. It had a smaller menu consisting of burgers and ribeye sandwiches. In addition, there would usually be a weekly special worth trying out. There's been a lot of changes over the years, including the quality of the food (for the worse unfortunately), but if I happen to go in again I'm going to order what I've gotten since day one: the black & bleu burger. The waitress took about 5min to get back to take our order, she was standing around and clearing tables, BUT the food was delicious. I ordered a southwest burger with fries. Ive been here lots of times, more than 20. Rustic-y vibe. Ribeye, blue cheese steak salad, and fish &chips are my favorites. All the food is delicious! The only problem ive ever had here is that whoever is working the bar does NOT know how to makes cocktails! I got a cosmo twice and both times it was dark red with juice &awful. Cosmos are suppose to be very light colored. &their margaritas always have celery salt on the rim ..which is for bloody marys.. and tastes gross with a margarita. If they gave their bartenders some training i would give this place 5stars. But damn it pisses me off that the bar can't make a drink!!!! read more

Good friendly service. Asked for recommendations and the waitress had good knowledge of the menu and gave me some good info. The inside is warm with thick wood frames which hold stone walls and a zinc framed ceiling. The character is definitely a big part of the great ambiance here. I liked the table overhang lamps which are made from Mason's milk or old oil bottles. I went with the Cod 'po boy with fries and...loved it. Give it a try. read more

Was just passing through town and found this place via Yelp. I was not disappointed. Lasagna soup was outstanding. Prime rib was really, really good for $20 and wife's pot roast was right on point. This was my 7th Catfish Days that I have been Gluten Free. Not by choice but because I have Celiac Disease. For the past 6 yrs I have always went to Hayden's to get my grilled Catfish to go and then met my family at Rustic, because they enjoy the broasted catfish they serve. I went there today and they said they only had fried catfish, I was so disappointed that they wouldn't accommodate me. I then went over to Rustic to join my family and had a pork chop on a stick, which was not that bad, but wasn't catfish. read more

Wow! We didn't see this coming in Wilmington, IL! Left Chicagoland Speedway headed home to St. Louis. Found Hayden's Crossing on Yelp and was intrigued. We were very pleasantly surprised. Great ambiance - casual, yet you knew you were going to get a great meal. The structure itself is the decor - rustic, wood, stone, aged. Parking lot full and the place was bustling with diners and active staff. Full menu with something for everyone. I had the special- Firecracker salmon. Served with spicy balsamic glaze. Fabulous. Salmon very moist, well prepared. My husband had a ribeye. His review: "It was good!" (This is why he is not writing Yelp reviews Lol!). Happy patrons everywhere we looked. If you are passing by Wilmington, we suggest you look no further! Nice, efficient staff, great food, unique atmosphere. We will be back and recommend to friends. read more
