My son loved playing music. Lots of booths, very comfortable place to wait for a flight. The menu is very diverse. The food is above-decent. We had Burger Sliders. They were regular burgers, very fun presentation. Great french fries. We also tried the Bruschetta. It was edible. Not fancy-shmancy. But, who would have thought that they would have Bruschetta anyway? I was shocked. It is brought out on a platter, you build your own Bruschetta. Cute, little place. Good food. Arriving early at BWI to try and leave before a bad storm came in (I barely made it out before the storm) meant I had time to kill, and needed to find someplace to have lunch that was also gluten-free friendly. Silver Diner was one of the only options in my terminal. Service was prompt. I don't recall anything - good or bad - beyond that about the service (my visit was a few months ago). Since their menu has a disclaimer for GF labeled items of "These products do not have gluten but are prepared in a kitchen that is not gluten-free," I looked for menu items that would have the least amount of cross-contamination from the preparation area. I ordered the seasonal citrus salad with shrimp added. I suppose it wasn't terrible for airport food, but it was pretty bad. The flavor was okay, but it was overpriced, the portion size was very small, and the salad was drenched in their vinaigrette. The good news is I wasn't glutened. read more

They seem well-staffed and their staff seem to be on top of everything even during peak hours during the busiest travel season of the year! The customers around me at the bar all seemed to be enjoying their food as well and receiving good service as well. By 'normal' standards, this place is decent. By airport standards, this place is amazing. I am delighted and amazed that they have gluten free options and that they clearly label them. They also have a dedicated section of the menu for vegans. The server was even knowledgeable about cross contamination from the fryer, which is usually a challenging concept to explain to restaurant staff. Also, service is quick and friendly, and the chicken burger and quinoa/Brussel Sprouts dish were both good. Props. I'll definitely be back next time I fly through BWI. p.s. I sat down for a quick meal on my layover, expecting to be in and out in 45 minutes or less. Unfortunately I ended up scarfing down what I ordered because it took almost a half hour for my food to come out. If it weren't enough that an airport restaurant took so long to get food out, the bartender and a waitress decided to stand and gripe about other customers. I gave two stars because the food that came out was decent, but the service and any sort of concern about customers' time or hearing complaints about other customers was quite lacking. Love the food it's really a great place to eat if you're at BWI. You'd eat here even if it wasn't at the airport. Great menu. Flexitarian vegan and gluten-free options. A few craft beers on tap. But every table we see they bring the food, but you don't yet have your silverware or napkins. We hate this...so we have to sit and look at our hot food and say 'can we get forks?' I see the same exact thing happened at the table next to us. I asked the server what was up and she said they ran out of the tableware 'roll ups' and they had to 'get them from the front'. I don't understand why they can't be brought to the table before your food. So your food gets cold and you have to request tableware. Management or ownership should address this. Otherwise a great and comfortable place to spend part of your layover. read more

My choice of seating and chose counter-top service. My server was quick and prompt, and for one of the first customers of the morning my food came out pretty quickly. I had a skillet breakfast, misnomer as it isn't cooked in the skillet it is served in (fake skillet), so don't expect the chared goodness you would get if it was really cooked in a skillet. The food was decent, but for a dish that is advertised as 3 eggs... there is no way unless they were pigeons or dove eggs...lol. also suppose to be bacon and sausage... but don't expect a full serving of meat as there were a few pieces but not enough to make a single sausage link or slice of bacon. Silver Diner is your standard airport fare. Now, I've heard tell that one can put lipstick on a pig and pretend it's something else, but at the end of the day, I can't even fantasize that the SD might turn into a Denny's, and (if you read my reviews) y'all know how I feel about Denny's. I don't usually justify stars, but I am here because 1) I dig a retro jukebox setup, and 2) they offer GF options, and 3) (VERY important) their to-go area is an oasis in the midst of a lot of crappy options, and reasonably priced, to boot. You can buy a beautiful salad or fresh fruit here, and I highly recommend swinging by, rather than paying $176432 for a make-your-own in the food court. You cannot, however, take advantage of this gloriousness should you choose to sit IN the diner. I ordered an omelette with bacon, veggies, and avocado. No toast, fruit subbed in for toast and home fries. $20 dollars later, I received a no-bacon omelette with a side of guac and a cup of fruit that looked like it been sitting in the hot hot sun. I contested my check to no avail, and there's only so far I'm willing to stretch what little zen I manage to maintain---I'll take the hit for going off-menu. N'amaste, Silver Diner. Our group of 4 went to Silver Diner twice on layovers during our NE getaway. Chelsea was our server both times (we asked for her section the second time) and she was so helpful and friendly. The cocktails were well-priced and well-made. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time considering it was all made to order. We had one GF person in our party, as well as one vegan (me!), so it was especially nice for the options available for both diets. The vegan Eggs Benedict made with Just Eggs was sooooo good! The BWI Silver Diner is right there when you need something to eat before your flight. Ten times better than airplane food, right. It's also much nicer to hangout here than at your departure gate. I had the Baja fish tacos for $12.49. I got two medium sized tacos consisting of Fried flounder, southwest ranch, shredded cabbage, cilantro, scallions, baja black bean salsa, cilantro sour cream and a side Summer Citrus Salad. The salad is very good. There's a nice portion of fruits on top which included some juicy mangoes, a nice surprise. The salad's a great complement to the tacos. The tacos are also pretty good. The southwest ranch, sour cream and salsa all come together really well with the slightly salty yet not overly fried fish. You can also order the fish grilled if you want. Great job. The last few visits though show the same cleverness in the menu but the execution unable to keep up. Missing ingredients, cooked improperly and a staff and management team seemingly more interested in personal lives than the job. Pity. I had read about this restaurant in the paper (they were highlighting restaurants in DMV airports). I sat at the bar and ordered the crab cake with Monterrey jack cheese and a mimosa to wash it down. It was really good. The only thing I will ding them for is being slow to move. I needed to pay the bill because I was in a hurry and the waitress was kind of dragging her feet. There were only two patrons in the diner so I'm not sure why she was taking so long to get the bill and a "to-go" container for my home fries. Stopped in on my way to Nashville for a burger. The design is Art Deco. One thing I like is there are plenty of plugs to charge your electronics. Pleasant atmosphere with some basic diner bustle about. I also like that they have departure monitor in the diner, a real plus for travelers. Prices are decent though the standard 20% airport premium applies. Plenty of tv's to watch. The server always kept my water full. I enjoy people watching. So it's always a treat watching people pass through Hearing their conversations then watching them disappear into the system. Stray Cats playing on the radio.
