Silk Road is a reliably good spot for lunch or dinner. It's been here since I've lived in Walnut Creek (since 2008) and probably longer. That's saying a lot in a town where it seems to be a revolving door of restaurants. Located on Main Street, there's a covered patio as well as indoor seating to choose from. I've enjoyed the patio on nice summer days and it's a great spot for people watching. My go to is the grilled veggie sandwich which is packed full of zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, onions, mozzarella and their tahini like sauce. It's Mediterranean with a flair-they have your traditional kabobs and wraps but also flatbread pizzas, pasta and salmon dishes. The complimentary flatbread and dip is a nice touch as well. Located on busy North Main St, Silk Road is primarily outdoor seating which is fine since weather is getting warmer. The overall ambiance (2/5) decor doesn't match the cuisine. Random sculptures, artwork, and archways that don't fit the Mediterranean theme. Additionally, outdoor tables and bathroom is not clean. Service (2.5/5) overall okay, forgot to bring a new glass of water to replace one that had lipstick stain on it. Nothing above average. Food and value overall (1/5) Chicken and filet plate (1.5/5) filet was tender. Overall plate was missing some herb or sauce like a mint yogurt or cilantro sauce. We asked for hot sauce and we were given buffalo hot sauce. Again, nothing authentic about that. Spicy gyro sandwich (1/5) didnt even finish it. Had a creamy sauce that was basically the buffalo sauce mixed with yogurt or some creme. Gyro was salty and pita tasted average store bought. As a gem of a place in terms of location, I would presume they'd make their own sauces and pita bread to make them standout as a local Bay Area restaurant. I would recommend Manakish (also in WC and has parking lot) if you want Mediterranean food and prices are reasonable with great portions and flavor. read more

I've been to this place a few times and it's always been good. My favorite time to come is lunch and I order from the lunch menu. The meats are tender (for the most part) and seasoned well. I've only had one "ok" experience which was during dinner. I ordered the combination chicken and Koobideh. The roasted tomato was amazing, the basmati rice with saffron were on point, the steamed vegetables were seasoned and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the meats were a bit dry and over cooked. The service had been always great as the servers are friendly and take time to talk with you and make sure you're glass is never empty. We've been going to Silk Road for years and it remains a gem in downtown Walnut Creek. We went there on a Saturday night, one night after we had dined at Lokanta, just a block away. What a difference between the two restaurants! I ordered the same dish from both restaurants, the Chicken Kabob dinner. Silk Road's dish was a knock-out! Tender, savory chicken, perfectly cooked veggies and pilaf. By contrast, the Lokanta chicken and the pilaf were very dry and almost tasteless. You can see from the photos that the quantity of food was quite different, even though the prices were very close to one another. Came across this on Yelp and decided to phone in an order. My thought process was street parking would be abundant. I forgot that restaurants had open outdoor dining once again. So street parking along Main St. was difficult. I circled multiple times and ended up in a paid lot just to pick up food. Annoying, but it is what it is sometimes. I ordered Tabbouleh and the Koubideh Kabob. The Tabbouleh was good. Was missing something, couldn't put my finger on it. Nonetheless, a great and refreshing appetizer. By the way, is this considered a salad? The Koubideh could have used a little more seasoning in my opinion, but was great. The rice had a ton of flavor and complimented the kabob well. There was some olive oil/garlic sauce on the side. Really good if you enjoy garlic and isn't too overpowering when dipping your pita or drenching your meal in. Silk Road is a good find by several reps who brought us lunch at work. My favorite dishes are the ravioli, Greek salad, and baklava. The ravioli is the best I've ever had - not sure why it's different other than it being made in house. Can't go wrong with kalamata olives and feta in salads. I loved that the baklava had more of a honey rather than nutty flavor, though it may be overly sweet for others who don't have a sweet tooth. The reason for 4 stars is that the rice and pita seemed a bit dry. Not sure if these items were dry due to take out, but I prefer pita that's softer rather than dryer. The yellow color of the saffron rice is pretty, and I'm sure tastes better in house. I'd love to try their dolmas sometime. Hope to dine in once this pandemic is over! read more

So a restaurant whose primary dishes are to have grilled tomatoes, do not. Never going back! I suspect they'll close like Pomegranate if they continue with shortcuts, same owners. Too bad. We get catered lunch from Silk Road pretty often, and it always brightens my day! On the regular, we get the chicken kebabs (both white and dark meat), hummus, saffron rice and pita. The white meat is surprisingly moist. I like to dollop mine with some hummus and sprinkle some tabbouleh over it, if available. My coworker (one of the pickiest eaters ever!) loves the saffron rice. On a *bonus* day, we also had the dolmas, koubideh kebab (beef), and grilled veggies. The dolmas are some of the best I've ever had! Love the koubideh too, and the veggies are outstanding! Perfectly al-dente with a slight char from the grill. Silk Road never disappoints. I'm hoping I get a chance to try some of their other dishes at their storefront soon. read more

Ah, the dreaded team lunch. It had to happen, and I was in charge. My goal was to organize a caravan to an uncrowded space in the downtown area, host a lunch that would look reasonable to my boss on my expense report, and avoid botulism or other parasitic diseases among my team, some of whom I discovered to be particularly persnickety eaters. Somehow I knew it had to be a Mediterranean menu because dishes are generally healthy and tasty unless, of course, they suck. Silk Road doesn't, which was a relief, although I have to say truthfully it wasn't a standout either. Decent, non-controversial Mediterranean food was my wish, and that's what we got. They set up a table for eight near their small bar against the wall, and it was a relaxing ambiance considering there were only two other tables of diners in the place at lunch. Slow day, I guess. I decided we needed to start with something that was easy to share, and the $12.95 Combination Appetizer Platter did the trick with a nice mix of hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh and dolmas all on one plate (photo: http://bit.ly/2o1mrIm). Bless them for doing that because each was only $10.95, and all four kinds were ordered. Each special consisted of a sandwich or burger and a kabob on a skewer accompanied by hummus and mixed greens. Me? I couldn't help myself and ordered the $17.95 Pomegranate Chicken which came highly recommended by a colleague back at the office. The sweetness of the pomegranate lent intriguing flavor to what was basically a standard roast chicken which was a bit overcooked. We asked about dessert. I met my goals though - the place was uncrowded (check!), my expense report was approved (check!), and nobody got sick (double check!). I will not be coming back and nor would I ever recommend anyone come here. Brought my father here for lunch. Everything started off good, but started going down hill quick, and I mean quick. Bread and oil vinegar that was complimentary was the best part. I ordered a chicken and koobideh combo plate and my father ordered a falafel sandwich. The sandwich was cut in half and had maybe 1-2 pieces of falafel throughout each half. There was a surplus of lettuce, and there was no sauce at all. It was probably more of a salad than anything, without dressing. Chicken koobideh combo was horrible. Not only was the chicken burnt but it was also very dry. The koobideh was soggy and undercooked, and the rice was also cold that was served with it. Not to also forget the portion size that was very little for 24$ If you sit inside you can hear the chefs playing Spanish music in the background! 2 stars for the bread. read more

Two main points: service and bread. The service here is one of the best I've ever experienced! The gentleman who sat us was super friendly and pleasant, it seemed like he may be the owner..? We stayed for a while and had a few different servers check on us, and each and every one of them was super nice, to the point of making us feel special lol. Soon as we sat down they brought us a HUGE plate of warm, soft pita with dip. Good god that was probably one of the best breads I've ever tasted in my life. Obv we went through it fast and it was replaced within a minute. (As much as I appreciate it) Tbh I was confused why they would keep bringing us that unlimited carby goodness, because I filled up on the pita alone and had to take most of my dinner home- everything was so delicious, I probably would've ordered more food if I hadn't stuffed my face with that heavenly pita.
