I hired them to install my hvac system for my restaurant. From the beginning I got horrible…read moreservice, not responding the calls or messages nor having answer for my questions on time. However I decided to use them they gave me reasonable quote and told me it will take about 2 weeks to get permits etc. They wanted to have the complete job with materials and labor, I didn't want to have materials from them bc was expensive and need to pay 50% down. I decided to order materials from ecomfort with lower price and installment agreement, it was easy to pay for me. Michael (owner) came to my business checked everything, measured etc.and told me what he needs as material. I asked him to confirm what exactly I need to order,3 indoor units 1 outdoor condenser 1 heater pan, 1 condenser pump,3×50ft total 150ft line sets and clear hose. I checked with him the capacity of the units and the rest of the equipment I need to order. He checked the list and told me order everything in the list i sent him by text message. After him and his staff finished the installation I saw the condenser pump in the box unused! I asked him that you want me to order this pump but you didn't use it! He goes ah I thought we will need it but not any more, I got angry and said ok take it back then you use it and I'll deduct from your balance. He took it with him and left. Later I was checking the materials and I saw he didn't use at least 60% of the line sets he made me order it! I put everything into box and put in basement. When he came to ask me to pay the balance I told him you told me to order 150ft of line sets and you didn't use easy 100ft of it!!! I paid nearly $700 for 150ft of line sets. I told him I will deduct $500 from his balance with returned condenser pump (paid $120) then I can give his check. He said no it's not my responsibility you bought the materials I just installed it. If you want you can sell it on ebay he told me. I said I have whole text messages saved in my phone that you told me to order all this materials I didn't order myself! As a contractor you came to my business you inspected you measured it and you told me exactly what I have to order then I ordered whatever you told me. He ignored and said no I won't take it back and left my restaurant! A week later he emailed me that saying he won't take the material back that's not his problem or responsibility, he needs his money by end of the week otherwise he said I will place lien on building and go to court. Plus he prepared wrong paperwork for permit, after a month building department respond that they need to fill out correct paperwork, imagine I lost just 1 month bc of their mistake to fill out wrong paper work. Another issue happened at last when I have my building inspection which was inspector came for inspection and found out they completed the job but didn't get the permit yet so they finished the job without permit! I was suffering to open my business asap I lost a week because of their irresponsible work ethic. Finally they got all paper work done and I passed the inspection. As I mentioned I had a lot of issues with this company called MFB MECHANICAL and absolutely advise people stay away from them if you don't want trouble!

Excellent service on my central air conditioning during a heat wave. Others could only tell me it…read morewas broken and a costly replacement needed. He came with diagnostic equipment, replaced a part, cleaned and tested the system and after 3 sweltering days during which we pondered spending many thousands to replace our system (the only option according to the other company) we are now comfortable and the price was extremely reasonable. Cannot recommend highly enough! We should have called him first!!

We have an older home and finding a technician who has knowledge and experience with both kinds of systems at a good price can be hard, but Legacy came through. Charlie was prompt when scheduling a time to service both systems and made it a very easy choice to go with them. He explained exactly what was done and what still needed to be done very clearly and was very accomodating. Both heating systems are working much better now and I would recommend Charlie to anyone in our area of NJ.

Legacy installed new Bosch heat pump heating and air conditioning systems as well as a Rheem hot…read morewater heater in my lake house. His workers that he claimed graduated from HVAC training school, did not know what they were doing. Charlie was not much better. He advertises himself as a licensed expert HVAC installer, but he did not know how to wire the Bosch system. He claimed it was a new model, and he had not installed it before. After we had no heat in the sub-freezing winter temperatures, he had to call the company for step-by-step instructions. The noise level of this system is unbearable and sounds like a wind tunnel. We have to increase the volume on the TV when the heat kicks on. In October he promised to install a noise reduction system in the attic (at my expense). It is now June and I am still waiting even though I have asked him numerous times when he is coming. He says we live too far away. Well, he shouldn't have taken the job if it was too far to travel to our property. The service has been terrible. At this point he will not even return my texts and calls to schedule the spring maintenance which was included in the price. Needless to say, I do not recommend this company for any HVAC work. Months later I found out he closed the business and moved out of state! How do these people sleep at night?

Piper Heating & Cooling is by far the best HVAC company that we've ever used. They're professional,…read morefast, honest, respectful of other people's time and completely cleaned up after themselves, etc. Al and his team went above and beyond the call of duty. Al is also extremely knowledgeable and patient as he took the time to answer all of our questions (3 women have a lot of questions about boilers!). We felt like Al was a good friend by the time he was finished installing the 2 boilers at my 84 yr old mother's house after her basement was flooded and her boilers were under water. Oh and Piper's pricing was extremely reasonable (best price we received) too! We would highly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for friendly, awesome, and honest HVAC company.

Here's how Al Toscano (President/Operations) responded, in order: First reply: "No it's free!! We pay for the gas, the tech salary... will pick up some donuts and coffee for you if you like! Maybe some ice cream for your children too!... Also know if you're gluten-free, so we can get everything right!" Next reply: "Do you work for free? This is a service business!... Who is the dumbass? Get your shit together, because obviously you don't understand how the world works, or how business works..." Final reply: "It's going to be even COLDER when your heat doesn't work and you're fishing for someone to come out for free! So my advice to you is, get over to Costco and buy yourself some warm blankets!" All of this over one polite pricing question -- not a request for free work. I never got a straight answer, just escalating sarcasm and insults. Can't speak to their HVAC work, but I'd think twice before dealing with a company whose owner responds to a basic question this way.

I hired Perfect Temp HVAC to repair a refrigerant line on my newly installed 24K mini-split, which…read moreincluded brazing the line, evacuating, and recharging the system under a workmanship warranty. Shortly after, I noticed the unit's power draw seemed high even after reaching its setpoint. When I raised this, I was initially told wattage concerns were "outside the scope" of the repair -- despite the warranty explicitly covering the refrigerant charge, which directly affects power draw. Over several exchanges I received inconsistent explanations, including generic AI-generated info that contradicted itself between messages, and was offered a $250 charge to look into an issue tied to his own work. When I asked for a proper diagnostic, I was told it wasn't possible on this unit's design -- something I only learned the reasoning behind after calling the manufacturer directly myself, who explained the correct method in one call. That's information I'd expect a technician working on this equipment to already know or offer proactively. He did eventually agree to come check the weld under warranty at no charge, but never showed up for the visit, later stating only that he'd weighed in the correct refrigerant charge originally -- a claim I had no way to verify without the visit. To be fair, my own follow-up measurements (airflow temperature split, wattage range) ultimately fell within normal parameters, so the underlying repair may well be sound. But getting clear, proactive answers about a system he installed took repeated pushback and research on my own part, and a promised follow-up never happened. Two stars reflects a repair that likely held up technically, alongside a service experience that made getting there far harder than it should have been.

I contacted Urban Mechanical via Yelp to see if I could get a technician to do a maintenance check…read moreon my central air A/C. It has been five years since any technician looked at it. While it is currently running (knock on wood), a guest recently remarked that the filter on my external fan unit looked dirty and that you're supposed to get annual maintenance on these units. As part of the Yelp message process, I left my contact information and provided two photos. Eventually, Urban Mechanical sent a message via Yelp to contact them via phone. I called by phone and spoke to the owner, Hector. He looked at my Yelp information and confirmed my request. He then told me that he had a 4-week backlog of appointments and apologized that he didn't have time at the moment to service my request. He said that if I texted him my contact info directly, he could reach out to me if there were any cancellations in the next 4 weeks. Although Urban Mechanical didn't have any appointment openings to service my request, I appreciate their transparency instead of just ghosting me. If they can be transparent about their scheduling, I am confident that they will be transparent about their work. EDIT: I received a call from Miguel a few days later that a cancellation happened -- he actually followed up, which doesn't always happen with other vendors. He came over at the appointed time. He had shoe covers to prevent tracking stuff indoors from his work boots! He did the inspection of the interior and exterior unit and cleaning. Miguel explained to me what he was doing and why and had no problems whatsoever in answering my questions. (I was like a kid asking "obvious" questions, but I really didn't know much about the AC system -- that exterior unit "filter" I described earlier was actually a coil.). Miguel was very thorough with the cleaning. The exterior unit was really dirty and he had heavy duty cleaner fluid and attached the bottle to my lawn hose and washed down the unit. Then, he dried it up with his towel. Miguel did find some potential mildew/mold build up, but this required installing a UV light, which was not covered in this service/inspection call (which is fine). He would prepare a proposal with several options to address that. In conclusion, Urban Mechanical has excellent customer service and does thorough work, so they deserve this 5-star review.
