***Update The tree is filling in beautifully! Our home will stay cooler now for the summer thanks to the shade from the tree. If you're going to have work done, get a professional arborist like Curtis. This was a worthwhile investment and will save us money in the years to come. I had called 7 of the local tree companies in solano county to have our tree trimmed. Curtis was the only one to not only call back the same day BUT to come to the house to do an estimate on the same day. Curtis and his crew did a fantastic job on our house. I will definitely hire Signature again when I clear out more trees/brush. Curtis spent several hours working with us to first survey the property then put together a very professional diagram, arborist report, and quote that made the scope and cost of the work very clear. In addition, he worked with the city to get proper permitting and approval. He was able to accomplish this in only a few days! His team was very professional and courteous. Safety was a big priority and they started and finished the job exactly as planned...they used all modern equipment and outfitting. Once they were finished they cleaned up the yard so well you could not even tell they had been there. Signature even came in below budget!! I called for an estimate, and the phone receptionist was very cordial and understanding when I mentioned that I was hoping for a return call from the arborist very soon, as to move forward with my project. She told me it may be the following Tuesday and I was grateful for her honesty. I received a call from Curtis on Monday, not Tuesday. He saw my home on google earth and we talked 20 min about my trees that he could identify online that I wanted removed and gave me a quote. I requested an in person visit to assure my choices were wise. He came that afternoon and educated me about native trees, why to keep them, pruning, the care of the trees I chose to keep, the time of year for best pruning, etc. Some trees I will now wait on till dormant season, I decided to keep most native trees after our conversation. The job was initiated the next day, Tuesday 7:45 am to do the job. Curtis was not present but the 2 gentlemen who arrived to do the minor job (no "in the trees work" required at this point- mostly small tree removal and pruning) were polite and competent, and were in direct phone contact with Curtis when they had a question. Curtis was accessible to them and me within one phone call. The job was complete and it was as expected. The area was left clean. Curtis and his crew removed six 60 feet tall Cyprus trees from our backyard and ground their stumps, and pruned our three large oak trees. They did an excellent job, were prompt arriving, safely removed the trees, and took their time pruning the oaks so that the grow the way we want them to. I asked for recommendations on a FB page and got several for this one. I called to ask that someone come out and give me an estimate for some work I needed done on a large white birch tree in my front yard. The owner (Curtis) came out the same day and explained everything I needed to have done (he is very knowledgeable) and price for work. He had a crew here a couple of days later. They did an amazing job and when they were through they cleaned up every last bit of trimmings from my yard and my neighbor's yard. Very professional. STAY AWAY!! from Curtis the Crooked Tree Nerd We hired Signature after meeting with Curtis and discussing our needs to have two trees removed, one trimmed and another trimmed and treated for a pest Curtis is quite the tree nerd...convinced me to pay him more than my other bid as I was impressed with his knowledge. What we talked about is not what he wrote down in tiny print on the work order. They left with full payment in cash promising to come back and treat the one tree. I called for three days and did not receive a call back. Finally reached Curtis on his cell phone and he said the treatment couldn't be done for two to three weeks out ( that was never mentioned ) and it would be $400. I said we paid in full for it, and he claimed it wasn't in the contract. I was willing to pay a little more but I would never have agreed to pay double. read more

I called a few places, Signature Tree Service is the only company that took the time to call me back. BUT,....I am SO glad they did. I have two medium/large ash trees in my back yard. We have always done the extreme cutting back of all the top growth. I thought that was the correct thing to do until I noticed that my once healthy trees are now sun damaged. I called Curtis, the owner of this business and he came out to give me a estimate. Right from the beginning I knew I had called the right company. Curtis told me about my trees and why they are now damaged and how he can fix them. He was very knowledgeable about tree growth, health and disease. The two man crew came out today and they had the trees pruned in about 6 hours. I am so amazed, they never used a single chain saw!!! The man hand cut everything! And it shows! Beautiful work! They took extreme care not to cause any damage and cleaned up everything after they were done. My trees are beautiful and I can see the natural shape in them again. I can't wait until they leaf out this spring. I want to add,....to have my trees properly "groomed" did not cost that much more then the slash and burn method. I highly recommend this company. 1. One of 10-Redwood trees (21 years old) 60 feet tall, all located in my back yard property, had a dual co-dominant leader rip off during a recent storm. A 20-30 foot piece tore leaving a single 35 foot tree top leader. From ground level looking up, a 10 foot scar was visible. The remaining tree diameter at the break point appeared to be 50% less than before. My immediate priority was to hire an arborist to provide guidance. I wanted to know if the tree was salvageable or a significant danger to neighbors. 2. I interviewed 4-local tree contractors. I chose Curtis Fosnaugh and his Signature Tree Service Company located in Vacaville, Ca. Why? As a certified arborist, he personally climbed the tree and assessed the remaining co-dominate leader. He stated the tree top might be savable. Every other company suggested cutting the top off. Because of his recommendation, I hired him to try and save the damaged tree, as well as, correct any deficiencies located with-in the other 9-Redwoods. 3. Fortunately, Curtis was available for immediate hire. The next morning at 0830 he arrived with four crew members (3-climbers and 1-ground crew). Curtis provided explicit instructions how the trees were to be pruned to prevent limb and tree damage and abate hazardous concerns. His focus was on preservation and improving tree health. His crew with Arturo as project manager completed the job in 1.5 days or approximately 50 man-hours. Salvador, Julian and Dylan were all excellent team members working nonstop until job completion. 4. I'm not sure why others reviewers were dissatisfied with this company, it could be an ownership growth process, a customer service learning curve, some miscommunication or simply disgruntled clients. I don't know. Here is what I do know based on the past 72-hours: From the moment I spoke with Curtis on site, he encompassed everything a professional contractor should be. He was knowledgeable, competent and professionally certified. His crew was articulate, punctual, well trained, well-mannered and extremely safety conscious. They were joyful and pleasant while working and accomplishing their tasks efficiently. They answered all questions and cleaned up after themselves before departure. 5. Based on 30 years military experience and my personal observations watching them work, their work ethic proved to me Signature Tree Service has the right stuff! Give them a try, I did. Best service! Guys were across the street working and finished job around 4pm. Called Curtis (owner), he quoted us price and his team came over and chopped down 3 trees we needed removed. I think the fellow who was team leader was Danny. Very friendly and thorough explaining what the process would be as far as removing trees and clean up. This company made time to complete my job same day since in the neighborhood. It was a full day for them and I appreciated their hard work. A+ service. Thank you! Stay away from these guys .. They damaged my neighbors side walk and refuse to repair . Drove their truck over about 20 feet of it and broke it, I called several times and they refuse to fix it , luckily I can attach their bond and the city may take legal action ,, and to top it off my tree looks horrible . In April, I needed an 80+year old Redwood removed. Talked with the Signature folks at a booth at the Solano County Home Show. Paid $75 for them to come out and give me an assessment. Chris arrived on time the date scheduled. He agreed it was dangerous, so we scheduled a date a few weeks out to have it removed. I had noticed they were selling 10-12 foot Redwood slabs at the Home Show and asked if that would be possible. He said no, they would be cutting it down in 3 feet sections, but he could get me a couple of big rounds from the bottom.I also said I was interested in the chippings,but couldn't confirm that yet. He said they'd call the day before the job to confirm, so that I could inform the renters. He also said he would be supervising the job. A few weeks later he called and said they would be doing it in the next couple of days. I said I was interested in the chippings and would have my dad bring a trailer down to collect them as they chipped. He said they would call me the night before. A couple of days later, I get a text from the neighbor with a picture of the tree stripped and just about down. She said that Chris hadn't supervised the job, the owner had. They had cut the trunk down in 10-12 foot sections, but they hadn't even left any large rounds (4 people could sit around them). Chris called that evening, frantic for the rest of the payment for the job. When he came by my house to pick it up, he apologized that I did not get a call the night before, but assured me the rounds and chipping would be delivered. I've called at least once a week until July, asking about the rounds and chipping, and spoke with a very nice woman. She said she would let Curtis know. I have never heard from him nor received the rounds or chipping. read more

This company is AWESOME!!! Very professional. Curtis the owner and certified arborist came out and spent about 45 min talking to me about what work I wanted done and the health of my trees. I was very impressed. He quickly gave me a quote, and got me scheduled the next day. Unfortunately they ended up being unexpectedly busy and had to reschedule for the following day. I totally didn't mind that at all only because Curtis called and communicated with me. He always kept me in the loop, which is something I look for when dealing with any type of service. The following day Nick and Jessie showed up at my home. Very professional, went over the work order with me, asked me specifically what I wanted done, and promptly got to work! These men paid attention to detail, spoke w my neighbor regarding questions he had, and cleaned up everything perfectly! I think what impressed me most was that my neighbor wanted another limb cut ( over his lawn) but Nick tried to explain that it wasn't good for the health of my tree with all the cuts that were already made. The work discussed with the man who came to give the estimate was not communicated on the work order the workers brought with them. Nor did they complete the work after it was described to them. During the clean phase, instead of collecting all the leaves, they blew a good portion of them into my neighbors hedges. If I ever need any more work done, they will not be doing it. read more

It took me repeated attempts to get an estimate. The rep showed up early with no phone call that had been promised. He new very little about trees and couldn't even identify common ones. He said he would email an estimate, I waited two weeks before making other arrangements. If they are this unprofessional I would hate to see who they send out to do the work. After a few days I got a response thru YELP and he said that he needed to get at least $800 to send a crew out, and for just this small tree it wouldn't be worth it. But if I'd send him two pictures of the tree, he would give me a ball park figure on cost. I sent him the pictures and a brief description as to what I wanted and waited for three days with no response. I finally called his Vacaville number and got a woman who said she'd give him my number. He called back and left his number and said to call anytime and I did as soon as I got back home (5:00pm) and no answer. Called back at 2:00 the next and now he says it'll be OVER $1600 just to trim!! All the other bids (5) are less then $1200, and they at least showed up to look at the tree! read more

Curtis is a great Salesman. The job started out as a month out until we gave him some sales objections. We went from a month out to 3 weeks - 2 weeks out - That Monday. He asked for a deposit to reserve the time. (My fault for giving one) I got another bid and canceled the job that evening 4 hours after Curtis gave me a bid. Over a month has gone by and Curtis will not return my calls or emails until today. He had his lawyer email me. Why can't he handle this on his own? Terrible company. Hired them to do stump grinding and to chop down some tree trunks. They missed some stumps and completely damaged my fence. Came back and took care of the missed stumps. Attempted to fix my fence with tape and wrong gauge chain link. Are you kidding me? Over a month later, my fence is still damaged. They refuse to return phone calls.
