Today, Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake is a 183 acre park where families, fishermen, campers, bird watchers, and nature lovers can enjoy a break outdoors that makes you feel a world away from the nearby tourist attractions. This property once contained more than 2,000 citrus trees before the City of Orlando purchased the land in the 1970s under Mayor Carl Langford. It officially opened as Turkey Lake Park in 1978 with the mission of conserving land in its natural state for residents as Orlando's tourism industry rapidly expanded. In 1981, many of the remaining orange trees were relocated to make room for a campground featuring RV sites and cabins. The park was renamed Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake in 2004 to honor former Orlando Mayor Bill Frederick for his commitment to preserving Orlando's natural spaces. Along with former Mayor Glenda E. Hood, he helped ensure the beauty of this park would be preserved for future generations. Today, the park is the City of Orlando's largest community park. Turkey Lake is considered one of Florida's top rated fishing lakes, making it a popular destination for anglers. Beyond the lake, there are miles of walking and biking trails, shaded picnic areas, playgrounds, fitness stations, sand volleyball courts, a seasonal swimming pool, boat rentals, a dedicated drone flying area, disc golf, and numerous pavilions for gatherings. The campground offers RV sites and cabins for overnight excursions surrounded by nature. Admission is a nominal $5 per vehicle or $2 for a single occupant, making it one of the best recreational values in Orlando. Come for a picnic, to swim, cast a line, visit the rescue animals, or hike the trails as I enjoyed doing. Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake is a reminder that Orlando offers more than just theme parks. I am so glad that the former mayors of Orlando had he foresight to preserve this slice of Florida's natural landscape where you never know what you might discover.

There are several facilities available including pavilions, grills, disc golf volleyball, playgrounds, swimming, fishing, and even a drone course. There's a bike path, a nature path and a small animal farm where you can see a turkey, chickens, and maybe a variety of other animals. There are cabins (assuming for rent) and a spot for small RVs and trailers. The park includes several restrooms which are very clean. The disc golf course is extensive and likely a bit difficult as it meanders through several wooded areas and even one hole across the water. The park has several pavilions varying in size. Most have parking nearby, however several will require you to hoof your goods a little distance. This is a great place for a family or larger gathering. Two dollar entry fee. Dogs allowed on leash and there are several pet sanitary stations.

You can check the schedule online and book a court or wing it and do so when you arrive. I've noticed a time or two when it looks like every court is blocked online and they were actually all open, so I'd recommend calling to verify if there are no spots. Day-of has always worked for me. The courts themselves are well-maintained and many are recently re-painted. Some of them have the practice nets separating the two courts so your balls stay close by (this is for newbs like me). The bathrooms are nearby and adequate. Nothing spectacular, but they work and have been clean when I've been there. Overall, great courts! I'd recommend.

My son was employed by Jeff Ellis at the Aulani in Oahu. He was living in company housing near the…read moreAulani. He got in some sort of pushing match with one of the house mates. The housemate called the Kapolei police and my son was detained for 45 hours for assault. Both should have been detained! When my son returned to the house after being exhausted and hungry and guy name Dale met him outside, along with all my son's belongings, outside. Dale told my son he could not even go in the house (that he paid rent in) to change his clothes. He then thought he had the authority to tell my son he was fired. We later learned he was only suspended with pay. Hawaiian housing authority is going to hear about this. He was thrown out of the company housing with no where safe to sleep that night. He was scared and ended up sleeping on a bench that night. This is how they will treat employees. Throwing them into the street??!! A formal complaint is going to be filed on two counts. I have contacted Jeff Ellis HR and they do nothing. I also contacted Disney HR and let them know this is the type of company they contract with. I am so glad to hear that Disneyland in Anaheim does NOT contract their lifeguards through Jeff Ellis. They could NEVER get away with paying their California lifeguards the "slave" wages they pay the Aulani lifeguards. This is insane the way my son was treated. Additionally, police stated this was a waste of their time. No charges were filed. Classic call from a tattle tale. My son resigned from Jeff Ellis thankfully. Do not let your kids go to the Aulani to be a life guard just so Jeff Ellis can toss them out at will.

Now that we have kids, the little one loves coming to this park to play with her friends after school and occasionally for birthday parties. There is tons of parking available and fun for all ages and family gatherings. I recently visited to gather local agents together for some fresh air and a donation drive , it was great!

I primarily go for water aerobics, and while no single location has it every day, this one really stands out. The front desk staff here is always friendly, professional, and welcoming, which sets a great tone right from the start. On top of that, the water fitness instructor is fantastic: helpful, pleasant, and keeps the class fun and motivating. It's one of the most enjoyable classes I've taken, and the music playlist is the best of any location I've been to. It really adds energy to the workout.
