    Help SIG has not sent out the emergency plumber

    My landlord is getting ripped off. SIG has been dragging its feet sending me the simple addendum to add a roommate. It is in their contract that they will handle the rental paperwork and instead they are playing games. First they claimed they would send me a simple addendum then three weeks later they have attempted to entrap me in a new contract instead. This situation is highly unprofessional. Bait and Switch, the week before the new roommate moves in. SIG claimed it was fixing the building plumbing and I had no leak in my unit. Then the next day after they 'fixed the plumbing' the pipes burst under my kitchen sink due to the water pressure changes they made. I called the SIG 24-hour emergency line and they said they would have someone contact me. 2 hours later no one contacted me, so I called again and this repeated all night. 8 hours later my kitchen is flooded at 3am and there is no one calling me to tell me how to turn off the water nor to schedule an emergency maintenance on the plumbing. The entire kitchen is drenched. SIG 24 hours emergency maintenance is a marketing scheme not a reality in my experience. We are on the 2nd floor so the water flooding the kitchen will drop down on the tenant below us.

    Update #3: They blew another hole in the wall . Communication has still been inconsistent and no urgency to remedy the holes or prevent anymore holes.

    The legal definition of a slumlord is a property owner who does not properly or ethically manage their residential property. SIG manages our property for some owner, but their combined efforts, or lack thereof, have gotten them dangerously close to slumlord status. There was the time we realized our keys didn't work in the front and back doors to the property and we asked for replacements, as did other tenants. Instead, they removed the locks entirely. It was probably cheaper. Months later, when a homeless person came into our building and we had to call the police to have him removed, we asked SIG again to provide us with locks and working keys, while citing the police report, and they said, "The owner doesn't wish to do that at this time." Got it, the owner doesn't care about our safety and well-being. There were times when we had a nasty sewage smell coming from underneath the building and every time we informed SIG they sent a plumber who "didn't find anything." When I finally asked what they thought would happen if I notified the department of safety and health about this, they sent a plumber out who finally found that the pipes were leaking. They carved a hole in the front of the building and replaced the pipes, but left the hole (with cardboard stapled over it) for a week and a half. This was during the time of a storm, the cardboard was blown off and a lot of rain water got into the hole and ON the wood, damaging it. We asked SIG several times if someone would check to make sure it was okay before patching up the hole, never an answer, one day someone just patched it up. Hope the wood holds up! There is the fact that EVERY TIME it rains for over a year we lose hot water because something is either installed incorrectly or there isn't proper housing for our outdoor heater. There are the countless times they tell us that they, or a plumber or some other vendor, will be coming into our apartment for checks... and no one ever arrives. We rearrange our schedules to make time for this and when we ask them why someone didn't show up... they never have an answer. Two separate months I had multiple days of no hot water and multiple days with the inability to use one sink or another due to issues, leaks, flooding the downstairs neighbor's sink... I asked if I could get a discount on those months as they were unable to provide me with the bare essentials for several days of each month (which has legal precedent.) I call and email dozens of times and either get no response or I am informed by employees that the managers or higher-ups will get back to me... they never do. Oh, and instead, they raised my rent $100 for this FABULOUS building with NO amenities. The safest place I could keep all my sensitive information would be in an email to SIG because NO ONE reads them. Do yourself a favor, NEVER rent with SIG. They are unresponsive and it is glaringly obvious that they and/or the owner of the property DO NOT care about the tenants safety and well-being.

Unfortunately, The first Managment company which I hired was just not on top of things. During the first year out of the US I was suffering greatly hwhile working with that company , it was a fairytale dream turning into a nightmare . When I finally let them go I hired Neena and her team, letting them take over the mess. Right from the get go I felt the difference. Honesty, communication, reliability and hands on approach are just a few of the qualities Neena at Designation properties has to offer. Neena also inherited a challenging situation from the previous management company and she took it on like a pro, putting the pieces back together while giving me a chance to some true Owner peace of mind. I'm so grateful for having someone to trust with my assets, especially in my delicate situation. My actions speak louder than words, I left my most valuable properties, my life's work, in the hands of Neena and Designation Properties while permanently living 8000 miles away. I think that pretty much sums it up.

    One of the best management companies I've ever come across. You typically hear about horror stories…read moreabout the lack of care from a management company when you're a tenant but not here. From Ben, Neena, Olivia and the rest of the team each person I've dealt with listen to the requests made and immediately act upon it to ensure tenants are comfortable and secure within their living quarters. I've had experiences with other management companies that won't care to follow up with requests or issues but rather blame individuals or make them live with the inconvenience and just collect their monthly rent. Great to work but even better people!!
