Right away, we noticed how friendly the staff was, and the ambiance was absolutely amazing. I also heard they have live music on certain nights, which makes me want to come back even more! Now, let's get to the food. I decided to try the fried oysters, and listen... for my first time trying oysters, I was hooked! They were so good that I ordered a second round. My husband ordered the hickory-smoked wings, and let me tell you, these are a MUST-TRY. The flavor was incredible! Of course, we couldn't leave without ordering their famous beignets. OMG! They were absolutely delicious. If I had any room left, I would have ordered another plate. And how could we order all that food without some drinks? You know me better than that! My husband ordered the Black Magic Lemonade with bourbon, and it quickly became his favorite drink of the day. Then he spotted an Old Fashioned on the menu, and there was no way he was passing that up--he was in heaven! The transformation since she took over has been remarkable. The energy of the staff, the attention to detail, and the overall experience reflect the leadership behind the scenes. Anna is the heart of this place. As someone who manages a large company and hundreds of employees, I can say with complete honesty that she is one of the most impressive leaders I have ever seen in action. She leads by example, treats people with respect, and creates an environment where both staff and guests feel valued. There is something almost unbelievable about her positivity. Every time I see her she is smiling, welcoming guests, and making sure everyone is having a great experience. It is contagious. You leave feeling happier than when you arrived. That kind of leadership is rare. John Martin's is already an incredible establishment with amazing food, incredible whiskey, and one of the best atmospheres in Coral Gables. But with someone like Anna leading the team, the place continues to get better and better. Where she goes, I will always follow. The drinks are classy, has a good selection of beer and wines and a simple food menu from pizzacraft to have a light fare. The location is excellent. Nested in downtown Fort Lauderdale by the river front and just steps from the Museum of Discovery and Science, AutoNation iMax and Broward Center of Performing Arts, it is easy to become a repeat customer. It was never empty but surprisingly, we never had to wait for a table either. If you hate big party crowds but still want to have a few drinks with your buddies, this is the place. She refused to show us the bill and told us, "No, it is not." However, my husband became suspicious because the bill seemed unusually high, so he only left a $4 tip. After we repeatedly asked for the bill, she finally brought it over while apologizing and, unsurprisingly, we discovered that gratuity had already been added, causing us to pay extra for tips. We didn't want to be petty and just left but she did not even serve us water. The person who brought out our food was the one who asked whether we wanted water and brought it to us. As someone who has worked in hospitality for years, this is completely unacceptable.
