This is the most fun I've ever had at a karaoke bar. It will definitely be a regular stop when I'm in town. Even if I still haven't had the guts to get up and sing. I don't think there's enough booze in the world to get me up there. But ya never know. The crowd is so welcoming to literally everybody. It doesn't matter if you suck or if you sing like a pro. Everybody will cheer you on or even sing along. It's such a great vibe Although not that strong, I could have ordered those Strawberry Fields all night long. Delicious. If not for calories, I would have. Important tips to remember: bring one dollar bills to tip the pianist a few bucks for every song you sing. Apparently piano kareoke at Sid Gold was on everyone's list to come here except for mine but I can now easily check off the box. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday evening and it was a small intimate crowd, which was fantastic because we got to sing our songs. As the evening rolled into ~8pm and the crowd grew in size, the rotation of the songs expanded to the newcomers, who likely came after your songs were selected. Nonetheless, I appreciate the experience. Cocktails and light bites were tasty. Didn't feel pushed to get any more than we ordered. Definitely felt embarrassed singing off-key but enjoyed the stage experience. read more

DC location has the whole speakeasy vibe to it in the alley but NYC location is quaint and fun. Not really a food spot so eat before you get there. Finally the manager came over, but only to ask us if there was a problem that we haven't ordered yet. Waitress was so rude and nasty. It's amusing as you have the pianist silently judging you as you sing along and he will restart if you're struggling (or just sing along with you). I found myself at Sid Gold's Request Room for an after-work team member engagement event. I typically enjoy these events as it's a more relaxed environment than the regular work day and I can get to know my colleagues a little better. I quickly learned that in addition to a standard bar, Sid's was also a piano bar that offered karaoke. My participation in karaoke is usually on a case-by-case basis, so while it was tentative I would be participating, I was looking forward to checking this place out regardless. Located in Flatiron, Sid's is kind of unassuming from the outside, but once you enter you're greeted by a pretty spacious bar area. The space is somewhat rectangular with the large bar serving as the focal point. There is also a back room which houses more seating and the piano bar. This area was more intimate - the lights were low, and it was more appropriate for performances and private events. I felt there was a poor design choice in the seating back there - it was a combination of high tops and banquette seating, but the latter's material was too slippery and we all kept falling out of the seats. We literally had to press our feet against the table legs to stay put - no good. Sid's offers karaoke, and unlike most places that use a machine to play instrumentals, all of the music comes from a pianist. I thought this was a great touch and something that sets it apart from the typical karaoke experience. The pianist was great, he was really engaging with us and did a great job with all of the performances. The space can also easily be utilized for non-karaoke performances, or just a pianist playing. Looking at the menu, they offered a nice variety of food and cocktails. The food selection wasn't anything outrageous, but totally appropriate for a bar/lounge. The drinks looked good, they had a section of specialty cocktails as well as more traditional ones. I didn't get a chance to try the food as my work provided its own, and our drink selection was limited to well drinks. The drinks were fine - I had two rum and cokes and a vodka Sprite. They weren't that strong as I didn't feel a thing after 3 rounds, and the cola they used was flat. Service was good - everyone was friendly, plates were cleared, and despite us being a group of over 50 people, I never felt forgotten. Overall, I think Sid's puts out a good experience, I just wish I had better drinks and seats I didn't slip out of. However, I wouldn't hesitate to return here to try their specialty cocktails and food selection. read more

Extremely talented folks in there. I came on a Disney musical night, and everyone, including the patrons were singing and dancing to the same tunes. It felt like I walked into a hang out spot of theatre folks. I came here for the gold drink, but it had no gold on it. I asked if they got my order wrong, and was shown a gold spray bottle that apparently doesn't put out much gold. Either way, I wouldn't come here for that drink, as seen from the beautiful pictures with gold in the drink. It's a two drink minimum, and I don't think it's worth a return. read more

Went here for their jazz and burlesque! The show was very good and the drinks were really tasty. Only taking off a star because the bar top itself has exposed nails underneath that I cut my leg on. Back in the days when we were allowed to gather in bars and clubs to enjoy life pre-Covid, I frequented this cool-ass piano karaoke bar with my friend Karen S to hear her belt out some tunes. The gal has pipes and can really carry a tune. Ask her to sing Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors as it's one of her faves. A few rum and cokes do the trick. This is actually two establishments in one. A more subdued by the books front bar to hang out with a drink, and the back bar behind the curtain which separates the two rooms. Now this is where the magic happens when you peek behind the curtain of the Great and Powerful Oz. Seating all around with a piano centering the room, and a stage area near it. I actually enjoyed sitting at the piano the times I was here. It's an intimate setting with some terrific talent performing at times. Wonderful piano players tickling the ivories. So many songs to choose from on their lists. Grab a cocktail, order up some snacks, and enjoy the show. If you're daring enough get on the stage, pick a song, and let 'er rip. This place is a great addition to any date night rotation or girls night! The pianist that night, Ben was incredible. I was pleasantly surprised by the attention to detail used in having his entire directly online and a link to his Venmo for tips. Of course I got up to sing and when I forgot the words, Ben helped me along. The place also took covid 19 precautions seriously, sanitizing wipes between sets and providing dividers between performers and pianist. The drinks were also good quality (something unexpected for a karaoke bar, and we had the Hemingway Daquiri and Negroni. I'd heard a lot about this venue but had never been until a friend took me one Saturday evening. We got there near the end of karaoke and I haven't done it by piano that much but this is one of those "must see" places. I didn't drink so can't speak for that but I can speak for the karaoke: the lady who did it that evening (her name escapes me at the moment) was awesome. She's very cool and apparently had a special story related to my song choice, the last song of the evening. I picked "All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow, knowing the song pretty well but not being sure how I well I could do the piano version. The answer was "really well" since a previous singer who was amazing (she did Celine Dion credibly) complimented me as well as a cute gay man (in my experience, gay men will not spare your feelings when it comes to singing so when they praise you they're being sincere). We had a good Valentine's Day here. And by we -- I mean me and my Penicillin. Stopped by for cocktails and grabbed a seat by the bar. The place is pretty big. There's a couch in the front which is perfect for a group of 4-5. They're a few tables for standing room, and the back in the piano bar. They're some booths and sitting tables. I popped in to check it out, and people were happily singing along to the pianist. He seemed very friendly. I definitely like the mood of this place. It's 100% calming and cool. I enjoy the way it's "hidden" from the outside. Drinks were good, the bartender was sweet. There is a happy hour. One star off due to poorly cooked fries. Despite not really hanging out in the area, I think I would come here to spend some time regardless. read more

I'm an introvert. People who know me are now laughing their asses off right now, but I really am! One quick cure of that is to get up on stage in front of a crowd of strangers and sing badly. Here's the thing that makes a piano karaoke bar the best thing ever... the crazy supportive atmosphere. From the pianist to the audience, if you start floundering they will save you. The best songs are the ones where everyone gets to join in on the chorus. There's zero pressure to perform, but if you do... High fives abound! The skill level is a great mix. And what you don't have in skill, you can easily make up with alcohol. The pours have gotten better, thank God, so my brokeass can still make a night of if for well under 50 bucks. But don't forget to bring cash to fill up the jar! The microphone may not smell like a beer, but if you sit at the bar, put bread in the jar and say, "Man, what are you doin' here?" I'm stealing Julian's schtick, but I'm sure the King of Banter doesn't mind. I usually come for Julian Velard's session on Wednesdays 9pm - 1am, but I need to start coming more than once a week. There are other performers in rotation and Joe McGinty's playlist is turning into the Magna Carta. Stumbled upon this little gem with a few friends on a Friday night. The front bar is quaint with décor from another era. Towards the back, there is a mysterious curtained off room and a person asking if you have reservations. ((note to self, make reservations next time!) When walking into the curtained room, you're automatically transported through to a simpler time - where there is art deco wallpaper and when people sang tunes accompanied by a piano. While we thought we were just going to stop in for a drink or two, Sid Gold's was the perfect location to spend a few hours and end our evening. The cocktails and other drinks were good and not overly priced. A draft beer is $7, a glass of cuvee was $10 and specialty cocktails (think ginger old fashioned) were $13. There was sporadic wait service in the piano room, but it was much faster to head to the bar yourself. The crowd was all supportive - there were no "boos" to be heard. Some of the singers were fantastic, others okay; none were God awful - at least on the night I came. Mostly, the crowd joined in on singing the songs too. There are little notepads all over to jot down the songs you request. There is a song list as well - but I wish there were more songs to choose from. Remember to tip the piano guy! The pianist (Julian Velard) on the day we came was very attentive and would cue in the inexperienced singers when it was time to open their mouths. Don't fret if you don't know all the words - there are lyrics you can read off from an iPad. The music ended at 1am, which is a bit early if you ask me, but I suppose pianists have lives too. I must say, I'm a super cocktail connoisseur (it's not bragging if it's true), so for me this menu is lacking-- def not a dead rabbit, employees only or patent pending. If you're not ultra snob, I.e only way you're satisfied is if you don't know/can't pronounce +50% of the ingredients per each drink, then you'll be good! Drinks are mixture of "house mixtures" ( like the strawberry fields which is rum, lime, pineapple, cinnamon and strawberry), classic cocktails like French 75, aperol spirtz, mule, Daiquiri, etc.). They have wines, beers, small plates, pizzas and salads too. I noticed a few (obviously doomed) first dates, and two women by the door catching up and getting their wine on (I could just hear them saying to each other, "It's 5 o'clock somewhere!" before getting started). When you go through the curtains to the back, it's a completely different section, with fancy booths on the sides and a piano stage being the focus of the room. Been to this place twice. Almost a decade ago and had a blast then. Had fun singing in the back room. Last night I went with a big group of people. I put in 2 song requests and waited and waited and waited....oh did I mentioned I waited. I re-requested them as many of my group went up several times and people who came in after me were called up multiple times. The waitress was very nice and apologetic and made an adjustment on the bill and told me next time to let her know and we can get you up there. I just do not understand if you tip on a request or even say you are tipping in cash, why wouldn't a request room not call you up? If you don't like the request...which was a part of the list of songs offered by the pianist, take it off the list. I'm sure you don't care but I was rather turned off by this experience and would rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

She played every song so incredibly and followed along as if it were a professional performance for those of us just there to sing some piano karaoke. Vintage fun. Be ready for a blast from the past. They were playing mo-town. The glassware and decor is kitschy. We had hot toddy, gin martinis and some other gin drink that smelled and tasted like grape cough syrup. All cocktails were potent, but grape/pomegranate drink was unappealing. We had a great laugh. If you ever think about leaving New York, this place will make you reconsider and remind you of the great places left in the city. This place is an absolute gem. Every time my partner and I come here, we sing our asses off with the piano host and the crowd, and have an absolute blast. The drinks are okay, I personally suggest ordering simple drinks like gin and tonic or jack and coke, where you can't go wrong. The staff is really awesome, and make you feel welcome. I love this place! Walk in and there is classic r&b music playing in the main bar. Lots of 60's memorabilia surrounds the bar area. In the back of the house there is a room with booths and high tops and a piano in the corner. We didn't come in on this night to join the karaoke- just to have a couple of cocktails at the bar but the karaoke with the live piano player seems to be great fun. So much classier than typical karaoke. My assumption is you probably need to know the words to the song you request being there doesn't seem to be a big screen with the words flashing across. There is a food menu as well with light snacks - didn't try so couldn't speak to food. I would love to come back here with some friends for a fun night next time I'm in NYC. read more

This is only for the cocktails was served. Went last Saturday, ordered a Hemingway last time and it was superb. This time it was nasty and tasted like sour mix. Usually I would return the drink but the bartender gave attitude while preparing and looked miserable. Maybe a bad night for him. But the drink was awful and a waste of money. I went here on a whim with a couple friends and I loved it. I'm not one for doing live piano karaoke but with some liquid courage it was a blast. I came on a Monday night so there were only 2-3 other parties I like on weekends where it gets super crowded. The piano player is fantastic.
