Chill Scardino is the most ethical, honest, and competent mechanic I have ever known, and every…read morefriend I have referred to him agrees. Once you discover Scardino Automotive, you will never leave, unless you have the misfortune of having to move out-of-state. When I first came to his shop in 2014, it was to do, for the second time, a repair that Kelly Clark Automotive had done a couple years before, and he did it for half the price. I asked, how is this possible? Kelly Clark Automotive has a great reputation! Why did they charge me twice as much as you for this repair? "You see this waiting area? There basically is no waiting area. When my dad built this shop, he didn't want a big waiting area with fancy furniture and a TV and people to drive you around..... he just wanted to build a shop that would give the great service of repairing cars. A no nonsense place. That's what we have here. Kelly Clark is a good place, and they've been around as long as we have. But they have to pay for all that stuff-- the fancy waiting room, the bigger building, extra employees. We don't."
When my 2001 Buick Century blew a head gasket in 2016, he said I needed to get a new car, but we could keep this one limping along with k-seal until we were ready to buy. He miraculously kept that car limping along until 2025 (nine years!!), when we finally sold it. But I remember, after we bought our "new" 2007 Toyota Highlander, the a/c also blew on that Buick, and I said I wanted him to fix it. He said no, he wouldn't do it, because it wouldn't be ethical to put in a new $1000 a/c repair on a 2001 Buick with a cracked head gasket. I couldn't believe it. So the Buick became our "winter" car!
Honestly, what mechanic out there does that? Well, Chill Scardino. Before we moved out of state, he did a bunch of work on our Toyota Highlander to get it ready for the road, and afterward, he gave me some brochures, since some of the work he did was under a special warranty and I could be reimbursed if I needed to have that work done again in the next couple of years. This is man who really thinks about his customers--- how to care for them, how to protect them, how to do right by them while growing his business, caring for his loyal employees who also never leave, and living the kind of life that someday will elicit a "well done, good and faithful servant" from our Lord above.
I never knew whether or not he had a spiritual side-- we didn't ever really talk religion-- but Chill Scardino runs his business like a godly, virtuous man. If you are lucky enough to read this and to give his business a try the next time you need your car repaired, you won't be sorry.
